The FSO referred to there is an old, unmaintained port of the icculus port. It is not suitable for conversion to VR, let alone capable of any of the new things actual FSO is, so it being "unoptimised" is the least of its problems.

(I think it's a thread about porting games to Oculus Quest and potential candidates for such porting? Though with Interplay being essentially comatose as usual, good luck getting FS on that thing...)
