thing to be prood of being greek.
We found democracy, arts, philosophy, mathematics, etc etc etc.
And now, We Are The First Country To Ban Gaming.
link here (http://www.forumplanet.com/gamespy/topic.asp?fid=1435&tid=794575)
Thank you people.
-
silly Greeks, if it doesn't include naked men running around with hoplons..... :p
-
:blah:
Thats just plain stupid... If a nation bans gambling... Mmmm... I could understand that (with great pain). But banning games? Come on! They can just as well declare Martial Law... :nervous:

nah, they're on their way to a spartan way of life.
Once that's attained they'll all run around naked with hoplons, armour and corinthian helmets, wielding new guns and then go to conquer the world....
well, in everquest maybe
oh wait, they're forbidden to play that now :p
-
Thats totally mad, if its true.
-
Yeah, already saw that, on some other site. It's... unbelievable!
How come I think this will make more people which break the laws...
-
This seems utterly crazy, but how the heck are they going to enforce such a law? :p
-
good god...people's stupidity never ceases to amaze me...
-
lol banning gaming, at first i thought they meant like indian gaming ( a la casinos ) but then i realized Greece has no idians and i should really stop jumping to conclusions before i read these articles.
It's like all the p2p's out there today illegally sharing music, you can't really enforce all these retarded laws.
-
...Next they will ban alcohol, then smoking, then sex :shaking:
-
Now i remember why the greeks remind me of the vulcans from star trek.

which cannot be distilled from this post.... :D
Man, I make a lot of typos but this really surpasses everything :p

that would be perfectly fine with me. :D
ah well, when all the other forms of "entertainment" fade away, I will still have my math. :D

Banning those two would be a good step in the right direction.
-
CP, do you always have to tell that... I'm getting tired of hearing that over and over. :sigh:
Though I halfly agree with you, except the last opinion shouldn't be banned.
And alcohol is also good if you don't take it much. Smoking, though, is never good. Or drugs.
-
Of course, an absolute ban of all alchohol, although it would make both Muslims and ZN happy, would cause all the Christian religions of the world to start massive protests. Including the extremists.

so very true. I say do away with smoking and keep alkyhol.. for now.

Start going Door-to-Door... We raided all the ISP's and got your addresses now we are performing gaming inspections (iraq?). If you are caught gaming we will haul your a$$ to the parthanon and excute you! Plus not only will your drives be wiped, but to make sure it is NEVER used for evil illegal gaming again your computer will also be executed (on live - pay per view?)... Comments?
-
that might be quite entertaining to see hardcore criminals beaten senseless with their own computers and cds. :D
-
poor snake...his copy of FS2 is now completely illegal....
I don't know why...but that seems absurdly funny to me...
-
*me goes to Greece and plays a game of Solitare*
*me is put in prison for 9 years*

lol, and don't think he's the only one :D
Don't take this the wrong way, if there's one program that I DID buy it's FS series. I've got 3 copies of FS2 cause in case one ever gets damaged or something. My second and third are unopened.
I've got 2 copies of Freespace 1 (both opened) and the Battlepack (which includes Silent Threat) this is opened too
-
If smoking is made illigal the underground drugs cartels will make even more money. Many ppl WILL riot.
I wouldn't mind since I don't smoke or drink but many would.

dude...
making cigarettes illegal would be like throwing Virgina into prison.
Not gonna happen.... oh well would be funny to see all those moronic people sucking on flaming dickheads all day start throwing up and crap because they want are so f***** up on tabacco and addicted.

See? A law which doesn't reflect the opinion of the people doesn't make sense. It's like if people thought, in general, that killing was good and then some crazy guy makes a law against murder! It's crazy!
For those who don't know what I'm talking about, it's because you're not supposed to.
-
A public smoking ban would be good, a nationwide one, if people want to engage in a lengthy of process of suicide, they shouldnt hurt other ppl doing it.
-
Amen, especially on public transport or other places where being next to smokers is out of your hands...
-
yeah i usually just try to embarrass te hell outta people who smoke right next to me in public places. By embarrasing i mean make deep inhaling noises... then hacking as along and hard as i possibly can while still keeping it fake then pull out my moms inhaler and pretend to take a few puff (hehe no magic dragons here) and then cough some more, get a lil' spittle on their shoes It's great fun.
-
Poor Snakeseyes... I heard about this a while ago and at first couldn't believe it. It's just plain stupid.
I agee with Zeronet completely

bah, forget what the stupid people think; what I am wondering about more is how they can enforce this. What, are they going to arrest the entire nation or something? :D

That might work. Or fine the entire nation.

Until they ban MATH!! ;7
Or better, they make it so only people who have healthy sex lifes are allowed to study math. :D
-
Oh... my... God... I don't know whether to laugh or cry!
-
Until they ban MATH!! ;7
But physics operates on math, and physics means new technologies, which means new weapons, which in turn means international political power, so math will always stay around. :D ;7
Even the most abtruse math usually finds applications in cryptography or something... :D

Yeah, right. Just like math was around during the middle ages.
Face it, math has as much of a chance of being irrationally banned as anything else...
-
Which is why there was almost no scientific progress in that period; what's your point? :p Instead, check out the history of the atom bomb. :D They only ban what does not keep them in power, which makes sense from their point of view.

Exactly. What helps your statement in absolutely nothing. If the ones in power feel that math (or anything else) is a threat to their rule, they will ban it, period. It has been done before, it can be done again - the usefulness of it has nothing to do with it.
-
Are you trying to tell me that math was banned? :p  Since when did loss of interest equal legal banning?
-
sheit dude, don't tell me another thread has gone from getting laid to math..... :sigh:

Unless you live in some retard place, smoking on public transport is banned and in most buildings that are essential. Theones where smoking is permitted are either segregated, or you can choose to go there or not. And as for smoking in public, smoking outdoors is public but I expect hardly any smoke gets to you outdoors.
-
Oh, it has started again. Next thing we know there'll be thirty pages long posts and nobody will check this thread except the both of us.

They could use of violence to show the right way. The government would have just as much trouble as enforcing a law against murder in a society which thinks there's nothing wrong with murder.
-

Since people were burned at stakes for trying to study it.
-
smoking in publc buildings and transports is illegal here (California) afaik, but of course they still can generally outdoors, which still pisses me off
-

so...you're telling me that there was really great scientific advance in the 800-1600 period compared to the centuries before and after that? I may not be the history expert around here but everyone would know this... :p
Since people were burned at stakes for trying to study it.
People were burned for trying to propagate ideas that did not fit in with the church doctrines. Since the Bible does not have too many references to math, they didn't really argue with whatever little mathematical progress there was. They did go after science much more violently since that contradicted their ideas for the most part, but even then they could only attack spreading ideas and not things that people were discovering privately and keeping a secret of.
Oh, it has started again. Next thing we know there'll be thirty pages long posts and nobody will check this thread except the both of us.
Actually, I would dig that thread back up if I had another six hours of time to write a post. :D

Today perhaps, but in the future I doubt it, just as this law is next to impossible to enforce today but is conceivable quite easy to do so in the future. If these laws are gradually implemented over very large periods of time, most people will not really notice or care. :D
-

Gee, just like they can't go after people who play computer games at home (or do anything that way, in fact) and "keep a secret" of it. What a shock.

I believe you are trying to be sarcastic there, but in today's world, how are they going to go after everyone who plays computer games anyway? They could install some kind of surveillance systems in every single house, but that would take many years and a ton of money; it is feasible though, which is why I said that it could easily be enforced in the future.
And it would get instantly 0wneD.
Doesn't matter; it would settle the argument. :D

Notice that this never happens because math is more interesting. ;7

Notice you're the only one who thinks that. I'm starting to wonder if your sex drive was removed at birth. Oo;;

*attempts to put this thread back on track*
I spent several hours last night trying to derive a series representation for this:
¥
òx-xdx
0
This converges to a constant value surprisingly close to 2, around 1.995455977898199. I have been able to obtain a series for the indefinite HXI function of order 2,
¥ k
å å [ xk+1 (k+1)n k! logk(-x) ] / [ (-1)k+n (k+1)k+1 n! ]
k=0 n=0
but cannot easily find the limit of this thing as x tends to infinity since this is a double generalized power series and reducing it to a single sum introduces incomplete gamma functions. (which are also hard to work with in limits) Its convergence is fairly slow so it is numerically pretty useless, and I would like an exact symbolic representation anyway. Anyone know how to take the limit of this?
-
ok ok CP, but why are you telling us this?
Are we supposed to understand?
Or is it simply, a message from the future?
-
I think it's safe to say that my suspicions were correct...
-
ok ok CP, but why are you telling us this?

yeah, doesn't everyone? Actually, I like math threads better than porn threads, and I cannot seem to find a limit of that thing, so maybe someone else here would know how to do that.

OO;; Okay, okay... You seem to have a hard time understanding that this is clearly college-level math you're dealing with. Maybe beyond. I certainly don't know enough about it to wager a decent guess, but this much is obvious: 95% of this board just looks at this and scratchs their heads, myself included. You'd might as well write an entire topic in Russian.
-
Math-b-gone.
Seriously, this is getting lame.
CP, stop derailing topics with math problems. Nobody cares and it's really annoying.
