That's right peple. Yugoslavia defeated the NBA team with the resault of 81:78. Usa has been eliminated from further competition and is now tied to the 7th place. Yugoslavia is now continuing further into the semifinals. Check out the link please. (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/basketball/)
God bless our team.

Thanks. It feels so good to be a Yugoslavian today.

I heard that Argentina beat the dream team too!!

*goes to nukes Yugoslavia*
were did I put that damned football...
[edit]:D, yes this was a joke[/edit]

AHH! I really love to see an angry American. Such a beutifull sight.
Now now Bobboau. Don't get mad. Let's see that smile on your face. Don't worry. Maybe someday, when Yugoslavia won't be playing, your "dream team" might be able to win. But, 7th place in the world isn't so bad. It's at least better than last.
-
By the way, I see that there are just a few posts here and many views. Good! :) At leats most of you know what happened. :D ;)  :thepimp: ;7
-
If it was the best out of 3 or something the Dreamteam would of course win. I'm Australian, but I'm still siding with the USA.
-
That flag hurts my eyes. Colors are too bright! Oo;;

Why does Yugoslavia have the Dutch flag but upside-down? :p

Its about time someone showed them that they're not the unbeatable superteam. Go Yugoslavia, GO Canada! (We're 13th, we can still comeback:D )
-
Hmm, I thought you were norwegian? :p
-
I say eh, like back bacon and have slept in an igloo (well it actually wasn't an IGLOO, but it was still made out of snow.) and it says BARRIE, ONTARIO, CANADA under my name, so no I'm not Norwegian, have never been there, nor have much of an inclination to go there. The only thing remotely Norwegian about me is my name Thor, and my high school sports teams are called the Vikings.

No nukes?
How bout ICBM's with razor-fletchetted warheads?
Deatonate in low atmosphere and let sparkly death fall for about five hundred feet till it imbeds through anyone and everyone beneath...
And yeah, if it was a best of 3 the US would win. After all, that's what the NBA's about. Playing it along, getting fans to fill the seats for a few more days or to travel to the other team's stadium cause it's for a tie-breaker...
It's good business, just not good sportsmanship.
In other words, they forgot they were playing for national pride and thought they were playing for phat pocket change.

Well that is the last thing he can say about this. Whenever Americans loose a game (especially in basketball) they blame the others and find excuses and always say that if something else happened, they would have won. Well sorry Kitsuni, but what ever you expected to happen, it didn't happen. Sorry! :) ;) The facts are:
- You lost BIG TIME ;) :p
- You were a favourite
- You were the host and lost ( hm that rimes ;) )
- You underestimated Yugoslavia just like you did underestimate Argentina and LOST. Sorry
Accept these facts. It's all over for you guys for this year. All I can say is, better luck next time.
And by the way about the nukes or whatever weapon you dream about using on us, it won't help you nor you can use them SUCKA :p :p
Too bad Ol uncle Sam won't be able to help ya out to display your furry and anger. :p
As Vlade Divac said before the game, USA is beatable and so you are!

It's just a shame that Yugoslavia is one of about 3 European countries that give a rats arse about Basketball.... which actually makes it even more impressive.
Well done... but,er, win a bit more gracefully next time, eh?
-
well dream team is (or should be..) the best so i can imagine it is a great satisfaction to beat em
on my side i can only be happy for jaric (yugo) sconochini and ginobili (argentina) that were all players of virtus bologna, one of the two teams of my city, and one of the best (if not the best) teams in europe of the last years... i'm pretty sure we will heard from manuel ginobili even in nba with the spurs:)
and i'm also happy for yugoslavia for they are still there, althought the tragedy that happened that made em loosing people of the caliber of kukoc (and a lot more outside sport) , and althought a lot of the old stars leaved the national team (danilovic, savic (both ex players of virtus bologna), djordevic ( ex fortitudo bologna) and all the the others). unfourtunately the same can't be said for italy, we managed to be near the level of yugoslavia for a while but after the older good players there isn't a lot more and now the team can't stand a challenge, they wasn't even able to qualify for these championships......
-
Yugoslavia has a Basketball team? And they beat America's? (We have Harlem, and they beat us?) weird.
GO Canada! (We're 13th, we can still comeback )
lol.... canada basketball teams  lol.... sorry i watch the simpsons
i would be careful, Uncle Bush might just decide that what Clinton started didn't and won't end untill Yugo is flying a flag with 51 stars

Oh no! We lost basketball games? You mean.....oh no! *cries*
No wait, it means we got the world interested enough in a game we made to form teams on an international level and they got good enough to beat the inventors. You're playing our game, and you spent enough time playing to beat us, good for you
Oh no, not influence!

Another patriotic American who tries to convince himself that USA lost because they wanted to and that we were the pupets of your game. What you mentioned above is the stupidest set of arguments and statements I have heard over the last few days.
By the way, Blue Lion you should have seen the faces of your "proud players" at the end of the match and you should have listened the reports on Sky news, CNN, Eurosport. I think I heard the word Embarrasment a lot. Face it! You lost! No medals for you! Try better! As Vlade Divac said, you americans should learn from us.
Do you want to know the reason you lost the game?
Here it is. It is very common among americans to underestimate other countries being "the most powerfull nation in the world". This was the case in basketball. You thought that you could beat the Argentina, you lost. You challanged us, the defending world champions, you LOST! That is the problem. Sure you may be the most powerfull military state in the world but you are spoil sports because you think you are unbeatable. (Un)Fortunatelly, you are not and just think or guess what are your players thinking now when they lost the chance to even win the bronze and about their embarrasement in front of their own nation, and the world.
All I can say is, better luck next time.

Italy and Ireland is one such combination, if I recall correctly. :D

No....they lost cause they lost :wtf:
I'm just happy people are playing the game. You're playing a game we invented that has support around the world. We lost the tourney, so? You're playing basketball. That's a bigger victory  You're just trying to get people riled over something stupid so you can gloat.

You know what's funny? This isn't the first thing we've lost, or the most important. If you can give me a reason why I should lose sleep over this, I'd love to hear it. Let me explain something to you, it's.....a basketball game. Ok? It's not a war or anything. It's a game, when you're done gloating, come get me and we'll see what major changes in the world occured because of it, oh yea, none. You know what you need to learn? How to win. This is the most pathetic excuse of a victor I've ever seen.
Do you want to know the reason you lost the game?

I thought we lost cause you scored more points than us? It didn't have anything to do with.......oh I dunno, playing the game? Like field goals and stuff? I find it sooooo sad you actually went a made a thread here to gloat you won. Does anyone really honestly care? I didn't even know there was a tournament until you posted.

There's no such thing as friendly gloating, because it's sole purpose is to try and humiliate the opposition.
When you win, win with style. Simple as that.
and gloating has no style, it's just childish.
-
its like you know..friendly
i dont really think much of it, just ..well you know friendly competetion
btw razor, i'm from belgrade, living in canada, toronto
theres real gloating and then theres the type that happens if both sides know its just a joke

I'm sorry, my memory is a little hazy but didn't we have to send in troops to that area cause certain people couldn't stop shooting other people? Just how many US troops are there in that area right now? Oh by the way, congratulations on your win in basketball, ooooooo special.

Er... maybe you could calm down a bit you lot.

I don't know about basketball, but I'm still happy we beat England in the World Cup. They were so confident after scoring that first goal... :D

You are talking about Albanian Terrorists on Kosovo. Yep you should get them out of there for sure. Those poor Serbs on Kosovo really need to rely on someone for their safety.

Znam i ja sam je trazio ali nisam siguran da je od Bajage.

1st place and a gold meddal. :D Usa ended up 6th ( so much for the worlds best basketball nation ;) ), Argentina 2nd, Spain 5th  but I don't know about New Zeland and Germany. Anyway, we proved that we are the best in the world.

Hey dude. American football is rugby (at least that is what we call it in my country) and football is football ( or as you Americans who oftn tend to change the language call it soccer )
By the way in basketball, you gotta be very fast and react quickly. When you want to score, you have shoot precicely into the ring or you will miss, while in football you have some 10 meter long goal and some 10 players around you and a keeper. How hard can it be to score? :p

I believe that there are some differences between american football and rugby, but I'm not sure. And I'm not American, I'm Brazilian.

Think harder next time you say something. You know that guy in different uniform allowed to use his hands? He's a goalkeeper, and he doesn't stay still during the game.
In basketball the basket is always right there on the same place as usual, and there's no guy flying around trying to make the ball not get there.
-
Shame it's 13 feet in the air, makes it a wee bit more difficult to get the ball there :wtf:

Seems to me that you are misinformed about basketball more than I thought. Silly one. In basketball, you have deffence. Simply said, players on the opposite team that prevent you from scoring. Of course there are no basket keeprs but what I am talking about is that you have to make a more precice hit to score. In football you have a wide open goal and a goal keeper. I can for instance just kick the ball hardest I can, make the keeper wet his pants and score. There is no elegancy in football. You just shoot as hard as you can. That's all that is to it. I haven't really seen any acrobatics on this years championchip. :p

Rugby - does not use body protection (except occasssionally soft head guards), does not reward the mere act of tackling someone by stopping play (at least, not rugby union), does not allow players to knock over oppossition players if they don;t have the ball, and does not use substitutes to kick conversions.... not being an expert (or indeed having any interest) in what the Us absurdly call 'football', I don't know if they have scrums or not.
Rugby is a harder game IMO (I used to be a prop in my heavier days - that's right in the scrum and really quite sore). But footie is, and always will be, the king of all sports.

Abso-bloody-lutely correct. I was, myself a ****-hot keeper before I retired (got bored of playing between the sticks ;)) .... trust me when i say that the goalies role is vastly underrated.
-
No such thing as Rugby, there's Rugby League and Rugby Union, both different types of Rugby.
-
I could do this in one of two ways. The long way or the short way. Let's see what the long way would look like.

Oh, you're so right. I had forgotten that in football the opposite team's players sit in the ground and wait when your team is attacking. Silly me.

If the keeper was a retarded monkey you could do just that.

Yeah, that's what bad players do. And that's why they're bad.

Did you really watch the same one as I did? That one in Japan/Korea? Are you sure? :wtf:
Now, there's the short way, which goes somewhat like this.
Let's see. In basketball each team scores about 80 points during a game (which I don't know how long is, but shouldn't be more than 90 minutes, I guess). In a regular football game there are no more than two goals during the 90 minutes. You're right, it's obvious that scoring in basketball requires a whole lotta more skill than in football.
-
Here's another way to put it....
ways of scoring in basketball;
- slam dunk
- Close in shot
- Rebound (pretty much the same as the dunk)
- long shot
ways of scoring in football
- header from cross / corner
- diving header (similar)
- lob the keeper from long range
- chip the keeper running through
- overhead kick / scissor kick, / flying sideways volley (forget proper name, used to be my particular speciality ;7 )
- volley from cross / bouncing ball
- running through and slotting past keeper
- running through and rounding / dummying keeper
- direct free kick (Ronaldinho!)
- deflections
ways of preventing a basketball goal (basket)
- jumping
ways of preventing a football goal
- diving save by keeper
- block by keeper coming out
- save by keepers leg / body (similar to block, but normally different circumstances)
- daring last minute slide tackle
- daring defenders colin-hendry-esque block on a shot
- clearance off line
And i could go on, with ways of passing the ball, controlling the ball, passing opponents (porbably the most even, but it's always harder to use your feet than hands), size of teams/pitches and thus the complexity of movement required to score, also the tactics possible.
Basketball ain;t a bad sport, but it's never going to match football. Methinks Razor is just a bit dissillusioned with the current poor state of the Yugoslav footie team.
