As far as I understand, the best and simplest way to install and run The Babylon Project is from Knossos. To my surprise, I couldn't find any discussions about this recent 3.8.0 version on these forums.
Anyways, some things I've noticed (not complaints per se, just things to look out for before jumping in):
- TBP detected my FreeSpace pilot, but was somehow unable to get my control scheme, so I needed to configure it manually.
- This also applies to the difficulty settings and the joystick deadzone/sensitivity. Note that the difficulty defaulted back to "Easy" and Aim Assist is turned ON for Easy difficulty.
- By default, the mod uses the "Orb radar", a radar that is very different from the original FreeSpace one. I personally don't like it. You can disable it in Knossos in the mod's settings, clicking on "Configure"
- Note that other non-default graphics configs are also applied to it out of the box.
- Includes a big list of custom campaigns
By the way, AFAIK the official campaigns that came with the mod originally are the Raider Wars and the Earth-Minbari war. If anyone has any recommendations, do let me know.
I actually found the FSO project thanks to The Babylon Project. Since then, I've bought and learned to use a HOTAS, played through the original FS1 and FS2 and I'm simply amazed by the amount of work that was put into this whole thing. Thank you.
