I once had a sample of the drums only of the first part of Joshua Act 3 that maybe came with a pack of high quality versions of some music tracks.
No idea where it is now, and cannot find it online?
-
It was probably in the "FreeSpace Music Pack (Extras)" archive available here:

Was maybe. I can't find it :)

Well the composer has an account on here, you could PM?

Huh, I thought for sure it would be in that pack.
I remember the file you're talking about. If I run across it I'll upload it here.
-
Yeah I remember downloading it once too with a pack of stuff, but those instances I have are either lost or stuck on a random backup DVD
-
I found the original thread:
https://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=43106.0
I've asked CP5670 if he still has those files.
EDIT: Although, according to the last page in that thread, all of the music was uploaded to FSFiles, which is where we already looked.
-
I'm pretty sure I have this file, will upload it next week when I get home.
-
Well well well look what I found on a 16 years old DVD
Idk if someone wants to upload this to the fs files site or something.
-
Nice work!
-
Aha. Could you upload all of those somewhere? Then I'll put them up on feralhosting.
-
I uploaded to file io; hope it's ok.
For 1 year before they are gone from there
I think they are deleted after download?

Nice, those are the flac versions too. Although the original instruments in Freespace music files aren't the best quality, so the flac doesn't really improve things.
-
That being said, some of the FS2 files from Dan were in higher sample rate; 44.1kHz vs 22kHz, which gave a clean sound without that grain/clipping sound that certain music had.
Not sure about FS1; those do still sound a little rolled off
I'm glad they didn't become lost media anyhow ;p

After only one person has downloaded them? I clicked the link and they are already unavailable. Could you upload them again and then PM me the link?

You're late Sevrin! CP blasted my upload, see that unavailable message? That's the Sunder right there! I'm filing a report!
(btw PM sent)

The FS2 music is generally much higher quality with better instruments. I recall for FS2 Leviticus we found that the music was simply resampled from a lower sampling rate source file, so it didn't actually sound any better than the 22khz one.
Some tracks are missing in the higher quality, particularly FS2 Exodus and FS1 Darkside. FS1 Darkside actually has additional ambient tracks that never appeared in the game, but are in Dan Wentz's remixed versions.
