Title: Gameplay slowdowns
Post by: Apothess on September 11, 2002, 01:31:46 pm
I was wondering if anyone else has this, whenever i play FS2 now the game stutters like theres no tomorrow whenever i face a corvette, destroyer, installation and a jugger making it nearly unplayable:(  now i have got

Athlon 1.7
Win XP
256mb
40 Gb hard disk
64mb GF3 Ti500

I have also noticed that FS dosen't really like the GF3 cos i ave to keep mucking about with the anti-aliasing(wotever) to get the ingame text to look right, would it be wise upgrading to the creative GF4 Ti 4600?

no... All N's cards will die by the wayside! RRF! (Radeon Revolution Front)
given that the game was released in 1998.... I think a 1.7 Athlon ARA! (Athlon Revolution Army) and *any* GF3 could handel that...
But im sure someone knows whats going on here... I just answering about upgrading to a GF4 - NO!!!! but you can make your own mind up... :nervous:

Proably unrelated but my XP machine slowsdown every so often for about a second as if its checkin it self or a network or somet and I have a
Ath 2000+ (1.67GHz)
512MB RAM
Radeon 8500 128MB
XP - *Zombie voice* No branisssss....

however my
K6-2 450
256MB RAM
TNT2 ULTRA

runs the same mission slowly but *playable*
(the mission is a test mission with some current ships in my TC, averaging about 1000 polys per LOD0 ingame each and about 20 of fighters and 5 - 8 caps)
Make of that what you will... (im sure it will be of absolutly no use whatsoever)

Try to update every damn driver and install XP service pack 1.
(in reverse order: SP1 first)
Can't think of anything else. :(

By the way, upgrading to GF4 is not that good idea.
In my opinion it would be waste of money, all those neat features that GF4 offers, are not of any use right now. The best GF4 is 4200 but it's performance is not too far away from GF3Ti500 howewer.

And, GF4's have some incompatibilities with FreeSpace 2, that's another reason not to upgrade yet...

By the way, turn off full-scene anti-aliasing off (FSAA) completely when playing FS2, it causes in-game text to become almost unreadable.

Its a good upgrade from a TNT2 though.:D

The text problem is fixable though, so its not that big a deal.

i got the latest drivers and it dosen't make a differeance as for the text thats not the problem,:(  stupid like but the game ran smoother with my old Gf2 wish i had kept it:(  so which card runs best with FS2 i know that the GF3 isn't very good with it? just tried the B5 mod and it stutters like theres no tomorrow but i suppose thats sumthing i should ask them.

I have GF3Ti200 64 MB DDR, WinXP/Win2k, AMD Thunderbird 1,2GHZ, 640 MB SDRAM and so on.
FS2 runs smoothly, as does TBP.

Does slowdowns occur in any other games?

nope well apart from warrior kings but thats due to a bug in the game, i think i'll try a system wipe and reinstall fs2 could be sumthing conflicting and + the system could do with one i think. but i'm gonna be buying a new Athlon 2.2 in a few months now so i'll just put up with the slowdowns for now.

Go to freespace.volitionwatch.com then look under hosted, and find Triton Dynamics. They have a slowdown fix you can download.
