Does anyone know where i can download the Apocalypse?
-
Uh.... it's in the 'reconstruction machine' at the moment, although I'm sure Styxx can give you the link to the old version.
-
Lemme look for the old version... I know it's still uploaded somewhere. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)
Ok, here: http://terra.sourceforge.net/mods/tfdxapocalypse01beta.zip ("http://terra.sourceforge.net/mods/tfdxapocalypse01beta.zip")
First beta version (completed about a year ago) has a lot of z-buffer and clipping problems... but works. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif)

Beta version is just for show. Nice to look at. It even has turrets so put in some superlong beams and you've got an instillation.
-
Cool thanks, do you know when the new one is going to come out?

With the rest of the campaign presumably.

We're having some problems with the new version - Dark is mapping it, but he's extremely busy with real life and wasn't able to complete it yet...
-
Where is Dark anyway?
-
Where has Dark been? It's been a year or two since he said anything to the FS community! cool

At home, or working. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)

Can the ship texture maps be animated?

Velocity 7
It is not the power you have now that matters; what counts is the life you had before. It does not matter whether or not you are weak, just have faith and believe in yourself. Remember my words.
-
No...... unfortunately, FS only supports animated textures for thrusters. Bummer, eh?
-
Not true, Shrike. Sandwich did that animated warpgate, remember? (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)
-
Uhhh...... but isn't that a warp effect?
-
He used the "thrusters" to make the inner section of the gate, allowing it to have animated textures.
-
So it's still a standard animated texture. All the animated textures are hardcoded (AFAIK) into the FS engine, you can alter them, but you can't add more....
-
yep, so that means that if you wanna make a new race with that kind of texturing, you must "delete" one of the other races... OR you can put an invisible texture in the thruster sub-models, replace the flames animations, and voila, a whole new race without deleting one of the others!!! That's what I plan to do in CIM...

But invisible.pcx is hardcoded to have collision detection....you'll bounce off the flames!

Unless you set the Don't Collide Invisible flag...

I downloaded the apocalypse and darkness and a few other ships from here, do i just put it in the tables folder in the data folder or the tbl, to get it to work. Also i downloaded the electobeams, where would i put those?
-
Instructions should be on the readme.txt file, but anyway:
For the ships, place the .POF files on the /models folder, the .PCX files on the /maps folder, and paste the contents of the ships.tbl folder into your own ships.tbl file that's on the /tables folder.
For the weapons, place all .PCX files on your effects folder and paste the contents of the weapons.tbl inside your own weapons.tbl file that's inside your /tables folder.
If you don't have the table files already, extract them from the VP files using VPViewer from the Descent Network.
-
Well the download is nothing but a ZIP FILE, thats what it says. But what website can i get VPViewer?
