Title: *Boot* Oy! Wake up!
Post by: Silent Warrior on August 17, 2004, 03:22:54 am
Um... It's been like seven months since anyone said anything here, and that was a post in Starborn FAQ. Any chance we could have some sort of status update? This month, even? :p The internal is apparently active, but what about the rest of us nobodies?

The MG team tend to be pretty secretive. We feel it adds to our overall mystery :)

That said I've been meaning to post a progress report for ages. Give me a day or two to put things together and I'll see what I can do :)

Took you guys long enough, though. I can tell things have been going on (heck, you don't have a constantly lit "new posts"-icon just for being lazy), but there must have been something going on since January to report. And the report states: Activity, and a demo making progress. Yummy.

I've posted a report on the internal saying exactly what we have and what we need. The team are looking over it and we'll give you a more detailed report of what's going on in a bit :)

Because there is much we should hide from public. To get spoiler material, call +3615374599 or write to our hidden E-mail address to getmindgamesspolier@thepriceof$0.com. Bear in mind that this E-mail address is so hiden that none of the MG staffers know about it, so only hackers who accidentally come across this E-mail address can read your message.

What big difference does it make wether it's in German or not? You're not reading the warning messages. If you're reading anything at all, it's the messages from the personas in game, and those are always done in English. :wtf:

*decides to change his language settings to german, for future MT and TVWP screenies*

How can you change the language?

Wenn hier sowieso keiner Deutsch versteht, kann ich ja ein paar Geheimnisse von Mind Games auf deutsch verraten. ;7

@Goober5000
"Rumpfschaden" is the exact translation for "Butt Kicked".  ;)

If you run regedit, you can navigate to a section that says language, and change it from deutsche to english.  Although all of your other files will still be in german, the text seems to be switched to english.  Or atleast that's how it worked, in reverse, for me.

Oh... do what you said... ;)

a) Why are you still using the Valkyrie Mk2 & Vesuvius?  Use the aurora & Donar (http://www.fileplanet.com/dl.aspx?/3dactionplanet/hlp/hosted/reciprocity/gtf_donar.zip) instead or something]

b) anyone who wants the Claymore (http://www.aldo14.f2s.com/portfolio/claymore5.jpg) only has to ask (and,er, add the docking paths - PCS doesn't work - and make the interface art).
Title: *Boot* Oy! Wake up!
Post by: karajorma on September 15, 2004, 06:05:04 am
We quite like the Valkyrie Mk II & Vesuvius. :D

That and the fact we've used them in the cutscenes and interface art etc makes it harder to change fighters now.

Of course we could include some newer fighters in addition to them and simply make them an older class of fighters.

We don't have to remodel them, so we save time. We don't have to splurge unneccesary time to remodel our mods. The Project Leading Department has this decision, either accept or refuse it. To be honestly, this step certainly increases our chances of ever finishing. Star Wars Conversion is not this logical, one day, our 'Let's increase the polycount here and there' politics will lead to our death. Unfortunatly, I have almost no modelling skills, so I cannot contribute anything to modelling and thereby I have no word in making decisions like these. Trust MindGames, you don't count polies if you are in the middle of an intense fight.

FFS, you don't get it do you?  I was not suggesting a remodel or any extra work, I was suggesting a replacement that would look better.  Simply because I tend to see my old stuff be used more than the new stuff, and I feel that's a wee bit of a shame. (and, technically, the newer stuff is more efficient in terms of LODing and map size vs detail).

Kara explained that they couldn;t because of the hud / ani, etc artwork work that has been done, which I was not aware of, which is perfectly fair and I have no problems whatsoever with.  I was simply stating my reasons.

Ok?

There's a good chance someone could post between you clicking on reply and clicking on submit after typing a responce. Especially when you're typing a long response.

Let's not have an arguement about posting ethics here cause I use the same style as Aldo does :D

Aldo : Is your main objection to the old mods the ship itself or the textures?

Urrr...Karajoma, i did forget to point out the rather obvious text for a certain FS2 faction on one of the Vesusivius' textures that might ruin the entire gameplay :/

both.  Just, y'know, the general modelling, UV-ing, texturing, etc.  I'm a bit of a revisionist/perfectionist when it comes to these things.... I just don't like having these old crappy things floating around, because i'm not happy with them as a whole.  That's why i remade the Claymore 5 times (6 if you include the mk2).

It's kind of a facetitious/selfish thing - I don't want people to thing, for example, that the old Claymore or the Gryphon, or even the Daedelus is the best I can do.  Plus i thought it'd work better for you to have the newer models :).

(Actually, at one point I was remodelling the Ves for HTL, but i never actually started the process of drawing the maps. I think it was in the last modeldump, I don't have it locally so i don't know exactly how complete it was)

But, if you're using them for cutscenes and whatnot, then obviously you've got to stick with the work you have done rather than redo it.  I was just suggesting it as a helpful alternative, had it not posed any extra work.

I'm not going to throw a hissy fit over it ;)

NB: TopAce, it's always good to quote the post you're replying to, both for disambiguation (as Kara said), and in case said post is edited later on in a way that makes the overall thread confusing.

It may be possible to relagate the Vesuvius somewhat so it doesn't appear as often in the game and use another model in its place.  CannonFodder is as much of a perfectionist as you are so the interface art and cutscenes may also not pose a problem since he may decide to sit down and rework everything yet again anyway :)
I'll look into it. Have you got any other suggestions as to what you think would be better than the ships we currently use? I can't promise anything but I don't mind getting feedback.

We're actually using a lot of your mods :D We're using the Piranha, Njord, Gagana, Peregrine, Reshev, Firehawk, Valkyrie, Stentor and Vela in MG so as you can see you're basically an unoffical team member :D

We also supposedly are using the Claymore Mk 1 but it got missed off the tables and no one ever remembered to add it :D

Lemme think....
Gagana - either the Phoebus(CoW)  or the (very large) Holler (Reci).  Holler may need a bit of editing, though, it was setup so 2 secondary turrets were seperate subobjects*

Peregrine - probably the Berserker which was one of the older Reci mods, based off Boanerges concept art.  I unfortuantely don;t know where this is for DL, though. :(  Can;t find the old release thread.

Reshef - Either the anhur or Heset from Reci (Anhur is the better looking one, set as a bomber but can easily pass as a fighter)

Firehawk - if this is what I'm thinking off, anything atall is better than this one :D  Even one of the old-but-not-that-old ones like the Ymir.

Valkyrie - Aurora from CoW

Stentor - The Claymore (either the completed Reci one, or the new HTL one which only needs the dock path added and interface)

Vela - I remember releasing a superfreighter in a modeldump, which Woomeister converted. I think this - http://www.woomeister.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/Demeter.zip - is it, but the image link above it in the post is broken, so not 100% sure :)

*the idea was to have a co-pilot type arrangement, where you'd use keypresses to tell the co-pilot to fire, or something.  Details escape me

Um... I'm not sure it is completely fixable, because of the rendering order FSO uses - but changing the girders map to a DDS / TGA with alpha transparency should help.  It was a code problem at the time, not a model problem - using true green transparency, the game never calculated what was visible through the green, so basically it was a 'hole' which you could see the background through - looked very odd.
