Title: [FA] Mission 1, Campaign 2
Post by: Singh on September 08, 2004, 09:48:50 am
Well, I have a prelim version done, but I cant test it since FS2 gives me a stupid error saying my virtual memory has run out, even though it hasn't!

anyway, here it is:

http://www.swooh.com/peon/Singh/FACampaign2Mission1.fs2

edit: this is the exact error:

Error: Out of memory.  Try closing down other applications, increasing your
virtual memory size, or installing more physical RAM.

File:U:\src\cvs\fs2_open.pilot\code\GlobalIncs\WinDebug.cpp
Line: 1492

Call stack:
------------------------------------------------------------------
    KERNEL32.dll 7c581af6()

Try reinstalling fs2 if problem persists and its the kernel32.dll you will have to reinstall windows.

I tried it in FREd and it looks okay. I load the mission and FS just hangs, but it does that with my own mission too. What builds are you using Singh ?

I tried with both the latest 22-08 Taylor build and the 02-08 build. Both have the same problems.

I just tried it. Same thing. Mission must have gotten corrupted somehow.

yeah, I'm lovin' Taylors work too Singh. Which FRED build though ?

and I think Swooh is down again.

I think my FRED files are being corrupted too 'cos I just cannot get a custom mission to work (I usually get a freeze after "commiting") but the retail campaign has been 100% so far.
sometimes FRED doesn't even recognise the files.

Okay. Here's a real oddity. I turned off the nebulae and for good measure deleted the sun (I didn't like how FRED2_Open was rendering the entire background blue) and the crash went away.

Then I put the nebula and sun back and the crash reappeared. Finally I delete the sun and everything started working. :wtf:

Sounds like an FS2_Open bug to me. Well at least the file isn't corrupt :D

Thanks, I'll try it out tonight.

Have a few more edits and balancing issues to handle anyway, so i'll re-upload it ASAP.

(read: i was sleepy and missed out a few things last night)
Title: Singh: Feedback for you pal
Post by: magatsu1 on September 10, 2004, 05:15:31 pm
1: Loadout Screen. A minor quibble, but having to replace default weapons with better kit is a little irksome. I always replace stanard issue stuff with the latest kit 'cos the player will obviously want it.

2: Messages. I think the initial messages between Ionas and Alpha were a little too long. And I doubt if the Ionas really needs to inform you as your wingmates die (though I can see why you put that in)

3: Gamma3, You forgot to make the Artemis scanneable!! Plus, I didn't have time to really check it out anway. By the time things had gone quiet it was too far away and I couldn't be arsed going back. I would make the scanning of Gamma3 the Shivan's cue. I like the idea though. (be a good opening for a mission in it's own right)

4: I didn't really know why the Ionas was waiting round. Maybe you could disable it and have the engines gradully repaired.

5: Pace, The mission was alittle short but adding slightly larger delays between wings would sort that.

The balance was pretty much spot on though and I thought it was a good opening mission. The corvettes don't play a major part in the mission though I doubt if they could without spoiling the balance (I'm working along those lines for mission2 BTW) :)

Which should be ready soon, so you can repay the favour ;)

edit: oh yeah, try increasing the gap between messages as I missed most of 'em and make the Ionas an escort ship.

The mission doesn't work for me. :( It tells me it cannot load the mission. I've tried opening it in FS2_Open, FRED2_Open, and FRED2 Retail, all of them failing.

Remember when I said this? :) I still have this version of the mission backed up. How much have you added to the mission since then?

It's certainly better than starting the mission again from scratch :)

Anyway lets see if I can spot the error now that I have something to compare it against.

I changed quite a bit; but now that I know exactly what needs to be changed, its better than nothing :D

I've gone one better and fixed the entire thing. :)

click me (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/karajorma/freespace/Downloads/FACampaign2Mission1(Fixed).rar)

You'll need to check the mission in FRED as it's missing a message now (I don't know if it was originally).

I'll post on the SCP forum and say what was wrong with the mission.

The .bak had the same error. I'll have to remember what caused this mission corruption for next time I hear of the problem :)

BTW have a look at the SCP post I made and state which version of FRED you were using.
