Title: I had a Freespace dream! Yay!
Post by: Andreas on December 09, 2004, 03:56:46 am
I've been little sick for the last couple of days, and propably bcause of that, last night, I had a dream about Freespace. It's a little bit fuzzy, but I do remember going after Nahema bombers in a nebula. I was protecting some ship (don't know what it was, but it had beams), and I remember how fast those Nahemas were, like they would have been using time acceleration x4, or somesuch :D

Anybody else had any dreams about Freespace lately?

I had a dream in which I had a tree that grows money....

And another one where one of my best friend chased me across the city with a axe and a giant black pool ball (the no. 8), and called himself cueball man.

Does that qualify?

I too had a semi-Freespace-related dream about a year and a half ago, and I too was somewhat sick at the time.  You see, I was just getting into learning FRED at the time, but I couldn't make heads or tails of the code.  The ways the sexps & such were linked together made absolutely no sense to me.  That night, my frustration with trying to grasp the basics of FRED manifested itself in a dream that seemed to make no sense.  None of the images in the dream would be imediately be recognized as being of Freespace or FRED origin, but I just remember that it represented FRED.  It was like there were hundreds of geometric formations around me (which I guess were the various sexps) that I was attempting to organize and string into sequences that made sense, but I was becoming inundated with them.  It was kinda claustrophobic.

Well, if really need to know, I had a dream about FS maybe a year ago or so.
It was about some messy multiplayer mission in a nebulae.. can't remember any details, sorry.
But i think we were losing, damn.

And that was the only one so far, which is a bit strange actually..

About half a year ago, I had a weird FS dream. I recall how the 'm9' music files weren't used in the game. Anyhow, we were battling on a planet, protecting cargo, and losing greatly to Shivans. Music was playing in the background. Then when m9 started playing, they suddenly self destructed.

That was really wrong. :ick:

I haven't had a dream about Freespace, but...

After coding for awhile, or really working with any sort of computer commands, my brain tends to get stuck trying to keep on translating what I want into C++ or Linux commands.

Most recently, this manifested itself in my brain trying to figure out how to send my brain into a sleep state. I vaguely remember lsing various directories and trying to work out problems with access privileges. :p

It's not pleasant at the time but sort of funny post facto.

I often dream that I'm at work, and everything that could go wrong, does go wrong, and everyone is expecting ME to solve all the problems.  At that point, I realize that I'm dreaming, and I go "This isn't real, there are no consequences, I'm outta here, YOU deal with it!"  It's quite gratifying doing that... even if it is just in a dream, that I know is a dream.

The only Freespace-related dream I've had involved myself standing on the bridge of an Orion and doing a classic evil-guy-laugh as it commenced orbital bombardment. I don't remember why. Only that I was. And the planet wasn't Earth, the continents were the wrong shape for that.

LOL @ Drew,

You know I have that SAME dream (but you are not in it), and the odd thing is that I have it when I am awake and also I have it whenever they announce a new Power Rangers series... ;7

Think about it though, Harbringer has a payload of 5000 MT
That would propably slice our good ol' Luna in half.

My dreams are really, really ****ed up. I don't usually remember them in detail, but the bits I do retain are usually very scary - not "argh! monsters!" scary, but :wtf: scary. Strange stuff goes on in my head...

Subconscious states tend to do intriguin things:
I had a dream where I was a Jedi, with a lightsaber and I once dreamt about being attacked by facehuggers(=spider-like creatures in the Alien universe).
I haven't had any FreeSpace or X-wing dreams so far.

mine are somewhat intriguing...
there is no sound in them...
and no color...
all my dreams are like that..
like an old B/W movie

I had a freespace dream once, kinda recently

Basicly i was on, The GTVA collossus. A good friend of mine was the captian, so basicly i'm going up to the bridge, and see another friend of mine walking down a staircase pushing people aside ( i think he was going to gunnery control or somthing)
at this point let me add, that however ugly the collossus might be from the outside, the inside is gorgeous, the staircase i was walking up was solid mahogany with a velvet carpet and all these famous paintings on the walls of the stairwell. Anyways, i get to the bridge talk ab it at a bar there(yes a bar in the bridge), then go to where my good friend is piloting the ship , and it turns out it's "their finest hour" except instead of one sathani, there are many. But thisw friend of mine, being the awesome guy he is, is wildly evading the sathani and flying at relativistic speeds (out the windows i can see noticable length contraction on the sathani) anyways, eventualy one gets us, and i'm like "Oh ****" and i turn around to start fleeing to an escape pod, but i notice on an overhead display of ships associated with the collossus that they have all left(quick launch eh?), then i see the number besides the escape pod icon (wich looks like a triton) rapidly count down to zero indicating destruction of said escape pods.

At that point eveyones pannicing and i am too, then i notice that on the associated ships screen it also lists fighters and bombers, i rtealise i'm a pilot and go to try and save a few other friends of mine. when i cant find anyone but extras i go down the elevator to the hanger bay, everyone is paniking except for the hanger elevator attendant who casualy asks for my pilot qualifactions so i can go to the hanger bay.

Then when i;m getting into my flightsuit i see a friend who is also getting into a flightsuit besides me, and i ask him if he's a pilot and he says somthing along the lines of "No, i'm jsut drunk so i came here" So i pack him into an ammo bay of my enries and fly off as the collossus explodes. Htn the dream does this little rewindy thing and i get another friend in my fighter (but this time they are both in some sort of crawlspace above the cockpit)

And theres a whole other matix part but my hands are tired now.

not even close. i beleive it was 5x10^16 MT, or 50,000,000,000,000,000 megatons to blow up an earth sized planet. 5000 MT would leave a small crater on the moon.
