Title: FS1 Port useage in FSopen
Post by: ssmitt on May 30, 2005, 11:58:03 am
Please bear with me if this has been addressed somewhere in a thread.  I've been playing FS for some time but only recently stumbled across the FS1 port.  I attempted to run the port in a mod directory for FSopen (build 20041106-Goober5000) with avi movies.

Is the FS1 port only intended for retail FS2?  FSopen appears to break the port.  Either that or I have misconfigured something.  I have not played all the way through but I noticed two things right off the bat.

1).  In the first engagement with the Shivans, the GTF cruiser survives the engagement--something clearly not accounted for the debriefing.  This appears to be because I was able to destroy shivan bombers--something I was NEVER able to pull off in retail FS1.  In retail FS1 with medium game play settings I could destroy a fighter, but only by dumping on piles of dumbfire missiles in addition to doubling up the ML-50 laser.  Even then sometimes they jumped out...

2).  Great War campaign appears to skip a mission.  Goes directly from the capture of the Taranis to the evacuation from Tombaugh with nothing in between.  It's been awhile since I've had FS1 installed & I could have sworn there was supposed to be something in there.

3).  Avi movies frequently play in the background.  Can hear the sound but can't see the movie (this is probably a SCP issue).

I am running:
2Ghz P4
1 Gig PC3200
128 Meg MSI NVIDIA card
so I shouldn't have any system bottlenecks.

It's designed for retail but it should be runnable on the SCP.  If not, there could be a bug in the SCP.

You're using a build that's rather out of date, too.  Try taylor's 2005-05-30 build in the SCP recent builds forum.

This sounds like a balancing problem.  The SCP balance has been changed somewhat, and we're trying to put it back the way it was.  Try it in FS2 retail, and then try it in the 5-30 build and see if it's any different.

A cutscene is there. ;)

Probably a SCP issue, yes.  Try the 05-30 build.

Will this mod work with the HoTU version?

My parents won't let me install the full FS2 until my birthday.

I had to actually blow up a ship that was meant to be destroyed by the shivans, and i couldnt finish the mission because it survived (escort ing a freight when shivans attack, one of the first missions)

I have noticed that both FS2 and FS1 are easier with FS2Open, doesnt bother me one bit though, only when missions go screwey :)
