Is this a temporary move or a more permanent one?

there was never any move
here is what happened

hurricane rita came, the power went out, and my old static IP was no longer available (i dunno why, i will have to ask my isp) for some reason or another so i got a new one. that is all that changed

btw someone might want to update the scp homepage multi FAQ to point to this new config file instead of the old one

um............ sorry if this is a n00b question, but when i try to register at the site given, it won't send me a validation email. I've tried it five times. What am I doing wrong? If it just doesn't work, is there any idea when it will be fixed?

I believe that registration is down at the moment. Seeing as FS2NetD is also down there isn't much point in registering at the moment anyway. The forces that be are hard at work on getting both back but in the meanwhile it is still possible to play IP games.

thank you very much. If it isn't too much trouble, is there any ETA for the repairs on the multiplayer?

How can I access the cooperative main FS2 campaign that is located in core.vp? FS2 multiplayer utility only shows the Templar campaign, and I assume it just searches .fc2 files. Is there a .fc2 version of that campaign or do I have to register to some online service to play the SCP campaigns?

Yes, I have a lot of questions :D
Title: Re: FAQ + How to get started using FS2NetD

It should show you the missions and campaigns as long as you have mv_core.vp somewhere the game can find it. If you're finding Templar you should be finding the FS2 campaign. Try looking for the missions in the individual missions list.

Of course that means you'll need to be using FS2_open as mv_Core will probably crash retail.

Multiplayer worked well, we tested the first mission and completed it succesfully, albeit I forgot to set the correct controls. I ended the mission with hull integrity of 1%. My friend saw fit taking potshots at me :pimp:
How does saving/loading work in online campaigns?

It doesn't. Next time you play you have to start again.

Good thing that they're all playable as single missions then :)
Title: Re: FAQ + How to get started using FS2NetD
Post by: karajorma on January 07, 2006, 05:40:07 am
Exactly. That's why singleplayer missions weren't available by default but multiplayer ones are. You'd have find a really dedicated group to play the whole FS2 campaign online :)

Are the files provided in the first post the latest? Particularly regarding the FS2 executable and the launcher there are newer ones available already, but i don't know if they'd work in mp, so just want to make sure everything is up to date.

[Edit]
Ah well, FS2NetD seems to be down for quite some time now. So i guess the only way for an MP game is to find some people and connect via IP?

Thanks maslo, but if you don't making a quick revision... taylor had to make a slight adjustment and move it from 64.92.160.251 to 64.92.160.250.  (actually at the moment, both ips work for me)

uhm, i think thees instructions need to be brought up to date. their in conflict with the ones over at gw. i think the current consensus is to use a 3.6.9 release canidate over the oeb, ive been using rc7 myself with a reasonable level of success.
Title: Re: FAQ + How to get started using FS2NetD

:D quite a funny catch, considering how much most ppl here dislike the oeb.

Wow, found a way to access the registration page! I don't know for you, but the link we have here does not work... here's what I found when I clicked on the original link:

"Could not locate remote server

You tried to access the address http://game-warden.comfs2netd/, which is currently unavailable"

There is a slash missing in the adress that we are supposed to be redirected. So I added one (http://game-warden.comfs2netd/), but only a blank page appeared. At least, there was a favicon. So, there was something there!

So I decided to enter fs2netd as a subdomain, which ended up like this: http://fs2netd.game-warden.com/

Guess what? It works!!

Post by: martellato on October 03, 2006, 09:36:39 pm
pyro, where did you find the goofed address?  That should be fixed.  The subdomain that you guessed is actually the official url for the FS2NetD site.  Lucky guess. :)
Title: Re: FAQ + How to get started using FS2NetD
Post by: Pyro MX on October 03, 2006, 10:11:58 pm
Opera gave me that error when trying to access FS2NetD witht this link: http://freespaceserver.cjb.net/fs2netd

"You tried to access the address http://game-warden.comfs2netd/"

Having a .comfs2netd surely doesn't help hehe. Yep, lucky shot with the subdomain...

I must deactivate the new media VPs so I can play without the "hacked tables" message... is it normal? :blah:

Yep. Taylor is adding something to stop that though and allow us to validate modular tables too. Until then modular tables = hack.

Okay. Hey I've been able to log into FS2NetD, however I cannot see any games and when I go to the FS2NetD accesspoint, I see these three:

FUBAR'S BDHR Bar & Grill
FUBAR's BDHR Bar Brawl
dot8 build - tinyurl.com/f3d5b

Could my firewall be blocking something? (Altough I wonder why it would, I tought it was only when I had to host that there should be a problem)

You're not using a compatible build. Everything 3.6.9 RC 7 and anything before it is in one set of builds and Retail and everything newer than 3.6.9 RC 7 is in another. The two groups can't see each other on FS2NetD.

I can't remember the URL for it but Taylor has a build that is compatible with retail somewhere.

I have a CVS build of 3.6.9 and I know it's not RC7 - it's something older.

Use this build: http://icculus.org/~taylor/fso/testing/rc7dot8.rar

Yes, indeed.  Pyro, the 3 servers that you listed are all running the build that taylor linked to above (3.6.9 RC7dot8).  The servers are running this because the "dot8" CVS build allows standalone servers to run with much greater stability than the original RC7 (hence it's no suprise that they are the dot8 standalones are the games that "survive" in the active games list :))

Who is DW-HUNTER? I remember you of the fs2 multi in pxo times xD... I Salvador :P

BTW, I have an idea for FS2NETD... why just dont make to work as a MOD? you can keep giving your most updated tables for playing on multi... it will be good to just use a MOD for playing on multis...

Im using FS2_open build 3.6.9 rc 7dot8 and I can see available games but when I log into multi player in game and go to game search nothing is coming up. I am set at TCP but what I'm not sure of is do I need to put an IP addy in the multi player option area or do I need an IP in my launcher or does fs2_net automatically log me in when i get into game?

No, you have everything set up ok. Those "invisible" games are probably run with a FSO version not compatible with your 3.6.9 rc 7dot8, therefore not shown at all. Another possibility is that people hosting those games haven't configured their routers/firewalls properly.

Is there any possibility of getting FSO multi to work without configuring firewalls and the like? Like other multiplayer games (for the most part)? :)

My firewall is on and I haven't set anything to run FSO - it always worked, I can see games and play. I always tought that the firewall needed to be set to host games.

OK, I use the Azureus (http://azureus.sourceforge.net) client, which requires Sun's Java JRE (http://www.fsoinstaller.com/getjre.html).  I used PortForward.com (http://www.portforward.com/routers.htm) to help me configure my settings right for Bittorrent.

EDIT: Oh, and for normal downloading (not Bittorrent), I use Free Download Manager (http://www.freedownloadmanager.org).
Azureus, Java, and FDM and the PortForward site are all free.  ;)

cai:

Stand-alone server support in FS2NetD is broken ATM.  You can only have a server if someone is using their computer to host... hence the shortage.  After we get SA server support back (soon, I think 3.6.10), then perhaps we can do something.
