If you're talking about official TBP - well...I'm do not know; but these will be in our WDF 2.0 release.

Now, are those models made from scratch or taken from a site?

I can answer that in part at least. The Shadow ships are probably from scratch; I've never seen them before. But the Minbari vessels are from a ship art site I ran across, and the soul hunter ship and Babylon 4 are official. The firstone ships probably are too, though I've never seen what they look like until now.

Well, you see I've seen those designs on a website with models of all the ships and even some fan made ships. So I was wondering if he reduced the poly count to get them in game or just took them as tehy were and put them in game.

I assumed, that the similar reasons can arise, so let me explain - It is very interesting, what can be, if you will take any finished model and will try to reduce poly, up to necessary ingame limit; even if to assume that you are right - we should see not models, we should see geometrical figure reminding this models; Further: I don't know any sites, that give an opportunity to download low poly models, all of them are VERY high poly.
Now, If you are interesting in technical details of this work: some parts of this models were created manually, some were taken from the already existing TBP models.

Well, I'm impressed that you've made so many ships. I hope they are put into the official TBP releases. Also, are they all ready in game?

damn, i wanted to do many of those ships. you took a lot of work from me when doing the firstone ships and the minbari ships. and let me say, you did a great job on all of those ships. the shadow ones though are not that good imo. somehow too similar to each other.
anyway, i hope you can donate these to the TBP.
btw, how many polys and textures did you use for the minbari and first one ships? if you used textures from the high poly version, did you have permission? what modeling program did you use? what format does the textures have?

The Minbari ships are from B5Wars, but I don't recognize the others. The colors seem allright, excepting maybe the Torvalus. It always seemed to have a darker, less greenish color... Same with the Triad, it was very dark hulled with the red glowy bits. However, it looks like that that is lighting from suns, yes? And not the actual texture colors?
Also, hope we can see them in core TBP. That'd rock.

That Greystar model originated as a successor to the Whitestar. I'm personally against the idea that the Minbari had ANY organic-drived ships in that war. Otherwise, you'd expect their modern warships to incorporate it (same for the Drakh). That said, its not my campaign, and I'm not familiar with the plot and explanations for these additions, so what do I know?

We've used TRUE SPACE v.6.5; and for the texturing - LITH UNWARP v. 1.3

I'm personally against the idea that the Minbari had ANY organic-drived ships in that war.
As I've already sad this vessel has lower technical characteristics than Whitestar, moreover, Minbari did all dirty work in that war, as the result, Vorlons could give some technologies.

one more question: for tbp the polycounts are quite high, but i think this would be ok if the models are LODed well enough. so are there LOD1 to 3? and how many polys do they have?
if this is ok i think you should send Trivial Psychic the models, he will do first steps to put them in core TBP.

Oh and by the way. TBP has a 95% complete Babylon 4. It just needs turrets, which you could steal from Babylon 5. You should approach the TBP team and ask them if you can complete that Babylon 4. It'll save you a lot of work and the model looks absolutely jaw droppingly awesome in-game. So ends my hint for the day.

I really don't like the minbari ships form B5Wars. You did a good job on them, but I hate the design of them.
Minbari ships are supposed to be sleek and elegant. Not some kind of mishappen ballfish.
And the Soulhunter ships looks somehow odd. I can't really tell why, maybe it's just the camera angle or the color of the cockpit.
In which time is your Campaign supposed to happen? The shadow war with Sheridan or Valen or even further back?
I really can't wait to see that ship of the walkers of sigma 957 ingame.

And, Aspirin, has your English improved alot? Don't take that as an insult, I just seem to remember you being alot less fluent when I downloaded the last relese.

I think TBP should accept those ships as its own. I can understand that many people don't care too much for them, but still they may not use them in their own campaigns. More ships is always good.
What Aspirin and Maverick have made is basically most of the things seen on the TV, and thus completed the job of TBP team that has been happening for many many years.
At this rate, pretty soon it will be difficult to find ships UNDONE. And that is no small feat.

True. However, I'll believe that statement when I see someone do the Void Seeker warships. (Not trying to pressure or force anybody into making anything, just stating a belief :D ).

I do think it's a shame Asprin and his colleagues don't choose to work more closely with the TBP team. That said I do have differing views on some of the ships. Generally speaking I'm all for including ships on a "use them or don't" basis but that said some of the ones above are just a bit too bizarre. The Torvalus, Advanded Drakh Raider, and Hybrid Soul hunter ship all look pretty ridiculous IMHO. The rest though are fair enough and as long as they have good LOD models (they are extremely high poly) then I'd like to see them included in the core.

Well, IP, I suggest that the FO (not VE or SH) ships should be given a bit of a leeway in terms of polys. I mean, they're not going to show up much, and even then, they should be kind of a centrepiece to the whole thing.

Well like I said, as long as they have decent LOD models. If they were really important models the poly wastage (and let's be clear about this, it is wastage in some cases) would be more of an issue.

Sorry for delay, there were some problems with the server (AGAIN :(). Now, as TBP is interesting in this

Having successfully incorporated 8k poly asteroids into the game, I for one think that the polycounts are fine as long as that's the in-game polycount and not a quad count. People are still far too attached to the ultra-low poly levels, when in fact the engine is well beyond them. The big question is the number of textures, as that's what dominates performance.
As for the shadow ships, they are a little too vertically-oriented for shadows, IMHO, but that's really the only major flaw I see in them. And as TBP is running on a fighter sim, having more things to actually fly around against can't be a bad thing, can it?

Huh...Wait a second....What mean - shame.... :( We tried to work more closely with the TBP team. Do you remember events at old forum? Do you remember bluestar? Do you remember "Ship_Pack_1". All what we could, we made, but remained unnoticed and as the result our team could stop existence.... (It was very difficult to me to not permit it). We're not vainglorious, we wanted to work more closely with the TBP team, but TBP team ignored us up to this moment.
Well, there were emotions only. Sorry. We still believe that working WITH and FOR TBP Team and for all B5 fans.

i am sorry to hear that you had problems in the past with the tbp team, but it is under new managemant, maybe you have another try. i myself would be willing to work with you together in things like modeling texturing, LODing and all modeling stuff. we could share our work and make life much easier for both of us ;)
though we have to get to a good polycount standard, as tbp doesnt want to be played only at high end machines...

My concern is that we might end up with so many ships and weapons that we have to drop multiplayer support, and switch to a special FSO build, like Inferno has done.

Well this is mainly due to number of races which appear in the game - humans, narns, centauri, minbari, brakiri, vree, drazi, interstellar alliance, shadows and vorlons (not to mention smaller factions like raiders or rangers + the first ones ships)... When you give each race 5-1x ships the numbers become rather large...

Huh...Wait a second....What mean - shame.... :( We tried to work more closely with the TBP team. Do you remember events at old forum? Do you remember bluestar? Do you remember "Ship_Pack_1". All what we could, we made, but remained unnoticed.
Actually we did notice. Some in the team wanted to include your ships. Others wanted to omit them on the grounds of high poly counts, lack of LODs, or intersecting geometry and zbuffer tearing. If models had not had these issues they would no doubt have been included. Since then many things have changed. The game engine has improved to handle a greater variety of modelling styles, you have started adding LODs to your ships ;), and the new core TBP team is a much more progressive and open minded lot. It's a good time to work with the TBP team.

Indeed :yes: I wouldn't mind adding some of those ships to TBP's arsenal once they are fully lodded and debris, of course credit will be given to Asprin and his team for whatever models we add. :nod:

It wont effect either team, any models that might be added will happen after 3.3 is released.

It will have more ships and Asprins lot will get their names in the credits? On the other hand, let's not get too excited just yet. Maverick needs to have a look at the stuff and iron out any problems with them, if possible. Let's wait and see.

Not LODed version of the VE Destroyer used in the FASW 1.0 release. http://fstbp.jino-net.ru/The_Minbari_Project.exe Before run the MOD rename your DATA directory in the DATA_1, then install MOD in your TBP directory.
