Post by: Charismatic on January 01, 2006, 12:24:51 am
What is the progress of R2? From last i heard it was depending on the missions being made and then it got good and then inactive. What is the current persentages?

Inferno builds don't work at all on my laptop anymore with recent CVS builds, some sort of memory overwrite issue. I've reverted to a working September build but it means I have to keep a different species_defs table and restore the old difficulty table.
Until it works again with recent builds on my laptop I won't be able to do much since I only have my desktop system which doesn't like big missions, spec and HTL models.

So recently the only thing I've done is got my special little project working. With a new Shivan ship for testing it. What that project is I won't tell you :p

I still hope for release sometime this year...

Haven't you got some kind of backup? Or could you make it now (everything you have NOW in FS2) and reinstall windows?

There's nothing wrong with my laptop. I can run far more intense games on it with no problems.

Uh...yes....
Ok, first try to make separate backups of INF SCP things (missions, tables, itd.). Then slowly add things and try to find out what is causing that.

Ok now it's working again except once out of about twenty attempts to load a mission. Though the sounds clicking again...

Bet it won't work tommorow

We've decided to revert the mod to work on September builds for now. Those seem to be working fine, though it means the mod isn't compatible with more recent builds now as the tables had to be reverted for the old builds.

With my little side project completed we can do some interesting things in ch2 now :drevil:

Now we have to merge Sids table changes with my debugged tables, then I have to get everyone together again so missions can be finnished. Haven't seen some staff members since the move from Gamespy.

At least I can play with the additional ships now that the main mods working again :D

I should have a lot of additional mods ready by release time, maybe 25 or so ships without the Ancient stuff.

Well things can start moving again, if we can get everyone together that is.

Don't forget to take a holiday some time, Woomeister. Sounds like you've got plenty on your plate right now. ;)

If you ask me, I would never agree to work with Inferno team as FRED'er because it would spoil the the fun of playing R2 (hmm.. or maybe not, I finished R1 about 15 times and it was fun even when I knew when enemy will arrive).

Of course bonuses of being on the staff include access to data on the extra mods I have, first play with new stuff, and access to our super secret stuff.

Hmm I believe it's been almost 5 years I've been doing this now. Started not long after the first version of the Gigas in feb 2001, we were then hosted here in May from our original Geocities home.
We're a bit younger than BWO and MT but we're the longest running hosted project at HLP :)

Not much younger mind you, probably by only a few months. I remember visiting the MT site before I started this campaign. Never thought then I'd be helping the MT lot for a while :D
I remember lurking at VW when HLP was announced, I don't really frequent forums and it's rare that I register. Setekh got me to register, I scrapped my FS1 campaign I was working on and started playing with Truespace 1, trying to figure out how to do conversions with little tutorials and a very primative version of TS. I made a Shivan uber ship to match the Terran uber ship in MT, and eventually a campaign was built around it. It's changed quite a bit since then :)

We used mostly reskins of FS2 ships and the old stretched Sath Gigas. I met Venom once I joined up with MT as a mission designer back then and he helped modifly the Sath arms a bit for me. Later he started making his own ships and a got a few requests in. OTT was started later and I joined that as the sol converter of the OTT models. OTT and INF shared some common ships and I got to keep the unfinnished OTT stuff like an Ancient destroyer and the SD Yama once I took over OTT for a time.

I've converted over 150 models for this game, absorbed mods from older campaigns like Temporal Mechanics, OTT, Reciprocity and a few others, many of which were used in R1, though many were dropped for one reason or another.

If there's ever a comprehensive collection of FS2 ship models, it's definitely Inferno. We're one of those rare massive projects that actually succeeded on releasing something. The type that usually vanishes or is cancelled after a few months.

Inferno wouldn't of gotten this big without being hosted by HLP and the infinite space provided by Gamespy. I don't think we could of grown this large on Geocities :D

Assuming the wost-case scenario where the lack of manpower delays mission release significantly, is there a chance of a release of the modpack with the missions as a later release?

High Max:
Well I'd like to get it working on latest SCP builds, but that's secondary

It's mostly missions and tables now, the rest is my stuff to do like new icons here and there.

Darius:
It is something I'm considering, though I haven't discussed it with the others yet.
