Well I don't know about anyone else but I've been waiting for this campaign since I started playing user campaigns.  But at the rate of progress BSG:Beyond the Red Line will be finished before BWO is. ;) How about an update on the BWO page though... last one was done in 2004.

Yes, we are all expecting substantial quantities of ass in BWO.

My goal is to do a pretty heafty update to the website in terms of content sometime close to when we're going to release.  Probably in the 8 weeks or so upto release.  Please don't take that as a sign that it will actually be 8 weeks but I'm just saying that when we're close then we'll start to make a big deal out of what BWO is all about.

I'm sure Inferno will come out first. I think BlackDove said that you still had to put all the voices in before you release BWO. Has this changed or do we have to wait for the voices? We can just accept voice synthesis until a patch with voices comes out. Voice synthesis also makes me laugh sometimes because it say things like "dot dot dot" mispronounces things, says "hyphen, hyphen, hyphen", has a constant monotone voice even in action packed scenes, etc. ;)
I think we'll put that particular point to a vote.  I think we'd like to have a good idea of where were going before we decide yes to voice with release or no to voice with release.

We're currently beta testing Episode 3, Mission 8...there are a few more missions infront of that and then we're done the first round of testing. This has been a long process and BlackDove and Ace have devoted many hours to making this happen.  There was alot of work to do and quite a few things that needed to be fixed in this run.  The second run will finalize alot of stuff and then we'll be seriously considering a release date.

We're also HT&Lizing some of the ships that were modded in.

thats good   I guess when yall moved offer from the FSwatch sever yall took all the Forum info with yall. but of course FSwatch is still up just hasnt been update in like 2 years. its funny you find dead site like that on the net just wasting space.

FSWatch is dead. It's been dead for... two years? I don't exactly remember how long.
I really am looking forward to this campaign though, it's got a great plot to it.
Here's a question to IceFire: Do you plan on ever finishing/restarting The Babel Effect sometime? Just wondering  :)

Keep up the great work, BWO team!

FS Watch still gets plenty of hits....its in a completely static mode but its more useful than you think.  So its not really wasting space when its still making money for the host in adrevenue.  We officially shut it down through all the normal channels.

a few months later....

Do you mean the GTDn Bastion that Psycho was making for United Space? The one that was in the making for..... 6 years? The one that only exists on Psycho's computer and the one that Psycho is no longer working on as he's also moved away from FS? if so, mrah.

This one?
http://inferno.hard-light.net/US_Bastion.jpg

Psycho sent me the original version (I believe the original was lost due to HD problems?) about 4 years ago for converting to Lightwave format for a render he wanted to do. I just found it on an old backup CD. I have the original POF, which is an incomplete LOD0 and all the maps (some are low res) I don't think the current POF would work as it uses a lot of maps, but I may be able to recombine the mesh (it's 2900 polygons in 6 pieces) and optimise it and get it working (I probably won't do other lods though, except for debris) if you or any of the remaining US team ok it.

:eek2: This is nearly as old as the GTXDn from Machine Terra and the Darkness class corvette :jaw: :snipe: So it never got finished in the end huh?
Title: Re: ^_^
Post by: Woomeister on June 08, 2006, 05:27:22 am
I've got those on the same CD as well :D

I tested it in game, it works, though there might be some stability issues with the current pof (it has a big hole in it) and the maps look terrible close up. I should be able to fix this ship up though.
Title: Re: ^_^
Post by: Taristin on June 08, 2006, 09:01:16 pm
I had one version from him at one point where it was about to be finished... but then he decided to do more work on it... then he disappeared for a few years. When he returned, I showed him the SCP and HTL, and he began work on an HTL version... then he just dropped off the face of the earth for a nother while, until recently. He no longer does anything with FS, from what he told me the last time we spoke.

And yes, that model is as old if not older than Machina Terra...

Its not mine to say if it should be released or not. From time to time, Psycho pops on AIM, if you want I'll tell him you have it, but I think he has several versions already. I dont know for sure though. Ill tell him.
Title: Re: ^_^
Post by: Woomeister on June 09, 2006, 04:29:20 am
Well if he's not going to finnish the ship, and the ship will never be finnished for use in a campaign, then maybe his WIP could be released so someone could try to finnish it? It's too nice of a ship for it to go to waste. If he's lost or deleted it, then I have this version that could be finnished. It wouldn't be as good as the more recent version, but it's better than nothing I suppose.

About... oh... 3 years ago, yeah. Lord only knows where the mission files are now. (BS2k may have them?)
Title: Re: ^_^
Post by: IceFire on June 22, 2006, 09:29:55 pm
I remember playing the campaign as a beta test with the Bastion in it.  Not a bad little campaign...the Bastion suffered from the same problem as everything else that I was seeing.  Big mega warship of doom with ultra firepower and winning all battles sort of thing. I can hardly blame everyone as I sort of bought into it for a little while too.

But don't mistake the Golgotha for that.  Its scarcely bigger than the Orion.  When Kellan and I went in to create a ship we decided that we'd make it as unique and interesting and as much of a compromise as possible. Super firepower had to come at a price.  The Golgotha is dangerous and powerful but no mega super weapon.  They were supposed to build a fleet of them anyways :)

Anyways, shame the GTDn Bastion never made it.   Pretty cool model overall...had some neat things to do that most models didn't have at the time.

A HTL Bastion?
 :jaw:

I was crazy about that ship for a while. But then again, there were hardly any other ships to get crazy about, back then.

COMMAND: INCOMING JUMP SIGNATURE! NEW USER CONFIGURATION!

Helm! Ready all beam cannons!
Lock Beam Cannons and fire on my command!
FIRE!

NO, YOU IDIOT! USE THE BIG BEAM CANNON!
FIRE!
:welcome:

Welcome to HLP! Exits are to the right and left. In the event of a landing of any kind, you can and will be used as a flotation device. Flamethrowers are conviniently located under your seats, however, due to the recent funding cuts, a $3.5 million donation is required to obtain a flamethrower with a full load of napalm in it. If you do not wish to make a donation, your flamethrower will remain filled with water. If you don't wish to donate and still want a working weapon, you'd have to try the weapons locker. However, only HLP Admins, a [V] God, or a Hyperintelligent shade of Blue can open the lock, so you'd have to break in. If you find yourself inside a ventilation shaft and you catch a glimpse of a Shivan, you don't need to worry... much. It's just Carl, and you have two choices with how you want to deal with him:
    1. The first possible course of action is getting one of the weapons from the afore-mentioned weapons locker, and trying to ward off Carl by threatening him with the weapon. Be advised that many of the weapons in the weapons locker are covered with the blood of people who thought it a good idea to break into the weapons locker and use the procured weapon to ward off Carl. So, please, if you decide you want to choose this course of action, choose one of the already-bloody weapons, so you don't get blood all over one of the clean ones.
   2. Your second course of action when you see Carl is to throw your lunch to him and hope he isn't hungry. This is the better option.
As a final note, please remember that any attempt to use the ASCII characters 0046h, 0053h, and 0033h in sequential order will result in you being trampled by Freespace Fanboys. Your trampled remains will be fed to Carl so that the rest of us don't have to carry around so much food for lunch.

with this community, I'm not so sure about girlfriends/wives, but yes, a lot of the people who are working on this have other responsibilities. If you want it to go faster, why don't you learn to model and help out? :D

The last time i tried to model, i tried to make a car........i personally thought it looked more like a plane......lol

Nah, Modelling is not my kinda thing, beta testing is.

I am currently beta testing the Rise of the Sith mod for Kotor 2, which seems to be going slowly before a new beta comes out....but beta testing is more fun. :D

There may be some sort of open beta...thats not a bad idea.  But were not ready for that yet either.  We want to make sure that all of the mission content is done.  If we gave you the beta right now the last few missions would be triggerless, message less, objectiveless events that would break the rest of the campaign.  Most of that is fixed now but not quite.  And by fixed I mean its been gone over with a fine tooth comb for everything from breaking the event triggers to better grammar and story.

Once thats all finished there's some stuff to do with fixing up the models and then finally some finishing touches like command briefing graphics and stuff like that.  Then...voices and done.  There could be possibility of release before some of that happens or a limited release...we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.

I very much doubt there'll be any kind of an open beta. Maybe when we finish the thing by our standards, and release it, we'll call that "open beta", but hardly anywhere before that.

At any rate, if we ever do hold any kind of a beta, we'll make sure to post a notification on this board.

It'll depend on a bunch of factors once we get to that point.

How close is "close"?

They need final playthroughs, and I actually think we broke some of them in the middle while trying to make something near the end work. Also as Ice said, last one ain't made, and I don't actually think the last four or five are really exisiting whatsoever.

Personally, i expect GREAT things from BWO. Its been under development for several years now, and though the staff havent exactly been working 'around the clock' on it (hey, we all have a life dont we?) , it -WILL- come out eventually. They havent worked this hard and come this far just to one day turn around and say 'yknow what ? stuff it. we couldnt be f**ked finishing it.'

So fellas, keep up the great work i say.

There will be a call out at some point near the end of the project to get things like voice and whatnot nailed down so keep an eye out.  We'll definitely need a large group of people willing to lend their voices to help.  I would but mine is crap :)

It's awesome to come back and see that Freespace 2 is still actively followed. I know at LEAST a hundred or so people at my university who stopped playing because they thought it was dead. But if BWO is on the rise and the team's actively working on it, it could be the catalyst for a rise in the fanbase again.

Puff up your chests boys 'cause with the help of FSO and your campaign, you fellas and HardLight could very well start a new following.  8)

Edit:
A) Bobboau - it's only a jinx if you make it one ;)
B) P.S. - It might be a dumb question, but what Uni job? Are you talking like a solo campaign?
C) :v: Who needs 'em anyway?

Hahaha hey well at least you're optimistic

The best 3 words associated with ANY mention of BWO are "When it's done"  :p

[Well, you could do a Open Beta Test, so we can at least play it in our lifetime.

But i am sure everyone has their own RL to deal with and stuff like that and nagging girlfriends/wives looking for attention, i am sure everyone is looking forward to this campaign.

I'm not sure an open beta would be for the best.  The story would get out and ruin the whole thing.  I know if people didn't want to participate they wouldn't (if they didn't want the story ruined for the final version). But still, I think word would get out.

The Inferno forum? That is merely, for the most part, hapless fools (such as myself) complaining about how confusing the different versions/storylines are.

BWO forever...uh, not in a DNF way...but in...a different...way! YES!

*channels pure, unadulterated faith towards the BWO internal*

Wow, someone actually posted in the BWO forum for the first time in almost 3 weeks. Kind of ridiculous that the BWO forum is quiet for that long when in the Inferno forum, there are posts in multiple threads each day along with updates very often.

You seem to be of the opinion that there's some sort of comparison to be had between BWO and Inferno.

You are mistaken.

BWO and Machina Terra are comparable projects.

Needless to say this thread is also being closed. Threads with comments beyond "ZOMG TEH FORUM IS DEAD" or "WOWZARS YUR FORUM IS DED COMPARED TO LE CAMPAIGNNE DE FAUX PROMISSES!" won't be locked. (not that anyone got the Plasma reference there...)

I did considering I'm the authority on all things Plasma.

But I think both BWO and Inferno are the campaigns that I look most forward to. When you say there is no comparison, are you saying that you feel that Inferno is a much bigger project than BWO and that more goes on with that campaign?

Yeah, that's it. Hahahahahaha.
