Quick recap for those of us who don't have the mission names memorized: in Paving the Way, you have to escort to GTC Galatea through an asteroid field to the Beta Cygni jump point, where it will fold out. Its weapons have been crippled by enemy bombers and there's no time to make repairs, so it's wholly dependent on you and your wingmate for protection from the asteroids.
At least, that's the theory.
In practice, the Galatea's turrets were fully operational, and after about a minute of trying, and failing, to reach asteroids before her gunners dealt with them, I just parked myself a few hundred meters to port and watched the lightshow. She folded out with 89% hull integrity left, most of the damage from Shivan bomber runs.
Now, it's been a while since I played vanilla FS1, but I'm fairly sure the Galatea's turrets aren't meant to be working on this mission...

Er... "folded"?
Anyway, yes, the turrets work in FS1.
-
Folded = Jumped out. ;)
must be the space-fold thing from Macross. :p

o.O
Something's changed; the Galatea was never able to get through that asteroid belt in FS1 without help...

Marathon, you nekulturny. :p

Shut up, Cobra. The meaning is clear from the context; my question referred to the etymology. Quit being obnoxious before I ban you from the FSPort forum. :p

You might be thinking of retail FS2; it had a bug that caused the turrets not to fire. But they definitely fired in FS1 and definitely fire in FSO.
And make sure you're playing on the same difficulty level.

Yeah. THe turrets weren't crippled, it's just that there aren't enough.

It's from the Marathon trilogy (http://marathon.bungie.org).

I'm playing on a harder difficulty level.
This is most peculiar; I'm going to have to reinstall FS1 and see for myself.

I'm pretty sure that Macross has been around longer than Marathon. Bungee borrowed the term.

Entirely possible; however, as what I know about Macross could comfortably fit in a struct tcp_header with space left over, my personal use of it was from Marathon, as that's where I acquired the term.

Comparing the FS2 to the FSM for "Paving the Way" everything is _exactly_ as it should be (with obvious differences being that the FS2 has ;;FSO for the skybox and the XSTR("blah blah blah.", -1) and the $icon_type: ##'s changing, and instead of Jump Node, it's Beta Cygni Jump Node)
Other than what was strictly necessary to operate the mission under FS2/FSO, nothing was changed.

I remember FS1 very well, but i could have sworn the Galatae was bigger than a cruiser

Does everyone remember the GTC Myrmidon in Silent Threat? It was an Orion destroyer.
Pretty much how Silent Threat went.
-
And don't forget the mysterious GTD...um...GTD! :p

The GTD GeeTeeDee :D
