Title: BWO Website Back Online
Post by: IceFire on July 23, 2006, 10:36:03 am
The BlackWater Operations Website (http://ce.hard-light.net/bwo)

After a long hiatus and multiple server moves the BlackWater Operations team would like to announce that our website is now back online and we will be updating it more regularly as we press in on finishing the campaign and making it available for download.  Several areas like the Story and Intelligence section are currently unavailable as we revamp those sections with new information.

"release date sept 2004" ??

You're status graph is interesting though. Much closer to completion than I had anticipated.  :)

Well, i really hope this campaign does get completed. The demo was great, the voices were great, I hope BWO shows up and really ignites the community.

I started this when I was in....mmm well I think it was Grade 11 High School.  I'm now working full time having graduated university :)

Its rediculous I know.  Its taken a long time to get alot of things done.  But we've got a plan now...not like before.  We know what we have to do and how much needs to be done.  Its been mostly Ace and BD.  These guys have refreshed everything quite a bit.  Both respect the work that has been done with the missions and the story but they have brought a nice new light to things and it's helped immensely.  It'll get done.  Sooner than later which is why its time to get the website back in operation.

So...where's that first "regular update" gone to?  I love how this campaign seems to work in slow motion, with every action after an announcement coming a few months instead of a few days later.

Yeah, everyone who lives a life not centered on the project they're working on should be shot. (I'm not being sarcastic :nervous: )

Sorry, I guess I was trying to make a joke and I failed.  I really don't mind how long this thing's been taking.  I've been watching it go since 2001 and I just recently came back to FS2, so I've got a lot of stuff to catch up on before I start craving BWO like a hungry bear.

I'm just personally glad that the crew decided to not pack it in over the last several years.

I can be patient. Though I've already worn out one set of discs, forcing me to buy a copy off Ebay (person claimed they only played it once. If true, their loss is my gain). Hey, seven years of constant playing, I'll call that a good shelf life.

Just make sure I don't go through another copy of FS2. :)

We're trying not to :)

My personal involvement at the moment is somewhat stagnant except for some website work.  I'm still working on it actually.  But anyways it'd be nice to have this done and out the door. I think we're closer than ever before.  Just not QUITE there yet.

Almost everything still says "Area under construction"
Title: Re: BWO Website Back Online
Post by: BlackDove on September 17, 2006, 04:51:31 pm
We're all "more or less" stagnant due to real life issues. The bitter sweet thing about BWO is the fact it all depends on four or five people. On one hand, there's no loss of coherency for the projects due to too many minds having their input, on another it takes longer to get done.

And everything is more or less "area under construction".

Seems to vary a lot, between 1 and 10 days, presumably because of things that happen in Real LifeTM

Refer to the other posts about our looking for people to convert models. If you believe that the campaign is dead then you can help bring it to life.

As Ace says...undead.

No its not dead again.  It wasn't dead before.  Its never been dead.  Its been in near hibernation state but never dead.  Dead would imply that all work stopped and that the majority of the team left which is not the case.

I don't know who's in charge of the website, but I guess removing/correcting some of the dead links would take, like, 4 minutes. I does feel kinda cheap. Hey, there's like 11 people working on the campaign. Someone might be able to set aside, like, 4 minutes of their RL to fix this, no? ;)

Cordially,

So I had a look at the website...the BWO site is fairly well intact.  The Cold Element site is badly broken.  I've sort of been waiting for the HLP bandwidth issues to be solved but I may see what else I can do.  Particularly about additional links to Aftermath and Warzone.

Actually if everyone pushed hard for a week, we could probably have it done.

But that's never going to happen.

Well if you'd be willing to pay each of us a full week's salary with benefits, and convince our job holders to give us a week off of our work time-sheet (school related or job related) so that we don't lose our prospective money-making positions for slacking off for a week, you let us know.

Yeah, I know... I'm not blaming anything, it's just depressing when you put it like that... it's like saying "If I were to go without sleep for a week, I could be done with this project" it sets a short, but impossible timetable.

Why don't campaigns that are dead like this one freaking release the work they've done so far to the community so that other people who ARE inclined to work hard for a week, without pay or sleep, can actually finish it so somebody can play it !

Yeah, I don't want to turn this thread into my own personal Inferno bashing, so we're not gonna go there. We'll just say that you're right and move on.
Title: Re: BWO Website Back Online
Post by: BlackDove on February 02, 2007, 09:06:14 pm
It depends on the people who do their respective jobs. There is no time estimate. Only things that need to get done. The amount of things that need to get done isn't large, but it depends on how fast the people who work on them do it.

 Neoterran...  ::)

(Sarcasim Mode on)

Warning: I just directed some nooblet named Alpha 1 (honestly, what kind of callsign is that? Kinda redundant no? Alpha means 1, One means 1 so he could have probably just called himself Eleven or 11) to your forums since he was asking about the status of BWO on GW...

Have fun!

Hey honestly, considering this is the first I've heard about BWO since....oh 2 years ago, I'm just happy to see that Icefire and the rest are still posting.  It was nice to set down FS2 and then pick it up 2 years later with FSO and all the other new campaigns.

Personally, I'll wait as long as necessary to see that blue beam cannon ;)

BWO = Being Waiting Out....

lol, but seriously, the campaign looks absolutely gorgeous, and everyone is looking forward to it. This is merely a suggestion, but perhaps you guys might consider getting some more guys to help you who have free time and can get the campaign released much quicker? It seems you guys have done most of the work, so why not bring in the reinforcements to finish it off?

Also, will it be released as SCP compatible?
Title: Re: BWO Website Back Online
Post by: Raven2001 on July 03, 2007, 08:02:08 am
Still some work to be done, but I dont think we need more people at this point (in the modelling part for instance, theres 2 of us already+ 1 converter). Adding more would just make things less manageable IMO.

And of course it will be SCP compatible, otherwise we wouldnt be working our asses off to produce HTL models :P

that explains the delay greatly, for all intensive purposes, you've had to do pretty much everything from scratch. as well as add a few extra goodies on the texturing side to make it stand up to the SCP's standards.  :)

Exactly, otherwise you would be playing BWO already.

But its preferable to deliver a more professional and up to today standards work, albeit with a later release, then a rushed work, with sub-par models
Title: Re: BWO Website Back Online

Oddly enough BWO is overall exactly reversed from where it was a few years ago.

Before the mods were done but the campaign itself wasn't.

Now the campaign is done (save for some balancing that'll have to be done with the finalized mods) but the mods need to be updated.

Sounds close to being done. It sounds so close that it could be done this month if worked on :)
Unfortunately its the summer and people want to occasionally have a peek at the big glowy thing in the sky :)

We need to finish up some of the MOD content and then we'll be in really fantastic shape I think.  Believe me...I'd love nothing more than to see BWO finally released.

Nothing to update just yet.  I was going to add some of the fancy new stuff we have but it wasn't quite ready yet and we made a few changes and fixes here and there.
