Title: Hello everyone
Post by: gcdiaz on September 01, 2006, 10:51:03 am
So I've been a fan of the Freespace games since they were released all those eons ago. Loved them dearly, so much that I've recently downloaded them to relive some memories. I have tried out the FS2 Open mod, and I think the graphical updates are fantastic. Unfortunately I'm still playing FS1 at 640*480, with those ancient 3D graphics. I'd like to change that.

I've been reading thru the posts here, but either my reading comprehension sucks, or the info I seek just isn't there. I'm pretty sure I've got all the necessary files from the Downloads section:

fsport3_0_3
fsport-fs1_training
fsport-hi_res
fsport-shine
stu_fs1
warble_fs1
fsport-glow
fsport-missions
sparky_hi_fs1
tango_fs1
awakenings
fsport-awakenings-voice

But what I don't have is the exact knowledge of what to do with them. Can someone please provide some step-by-step instructions on how to get FS1 up and running from scratch?

I've got the latest version of FSO (3.67), as well as the FS1 and ST retail discs, if that helps.

Thanks in advance.

...what??

OpenAL is installed. I've read the FAQ before, it didn't help.

He does...

Just put the FSPort VP's into your main FreeSpace folder...

...my reading comprehension sucks...

Naturally.  Most people have very poor reading comprehension.  Let me steer your attention to this item from the website:

Quote
Awakenings - The classic FS1 campaign ported to FS2. Only compatible with Port 2.3 at this point, but we'll upgrade it to 3.0 soon.

"Compatible" means "works with".  You can only run Awakenings with the Port v2.3.  If you try it with 3.0, you'll get errors.  You should remove the Awakenings files until we release the 3.0 version.

FS1?  Or the FSPort?  If you want to play FS1, just run the FS1 install program.  If you want to install the Port, see below.

Again with the reading comprehension.  Have you read this page?
