Title: inferno loading slow.

When I try to load missions in the inferno mod they take for ever to load(3-4mins)does any one know what might be wrong??The main FS2 missions load just fine(10-secs max)

When FS2 or an FS2 mod loads a mission for the first time it generates IBX files which allows it to speed up the loading of the mission next time.

Try reloading one of the missions you've already loaded once and see if it still takes time.

Ok I think I might have found the problem.

After going into the setup to lower the detail settings I found out that my comp has only 256RAM I thought I had 512RAM so I'm guessing that I found the problem.

p.s. trying to load a mission that I had already played before did not work.

I just got more RAM a fews days ago still have the same problem with inferno loading very slow even after I put 1GB of RAM in my PC.

Anyone have any clue what is wrong???????

Out of curiosity, do you use FS2 SCP when playing the regular campaign?

And a second question... what are the rest of your PC specs?

I am running the retail version of freespace 2 not the SCP(impossible to download with dial-up :( )

My comp specs are.

Intel Pentium 4 2.4Ghz Processor.

80GB hard drive.

PNY 1GB RAM.(plus the stock 256 card)

Nvidia GeForce MX 4000 128MB video card.

Sony 48x CD-Drive.



I am trying the defrag trick now I'll let y'all know if it worked.

Hmm... you can bittorrent with dial-up, it'll just take you a few nights to get done.
EDIT: actually, if you PM me ur snail mail addy, I'll send you a DVD...

Ok I tried defraging(whole hard drive)that did not appear to do any good inferno still loads very slow.

Any more ideas??

And I forgot to say before but it not only loads slow when tried to load a mission it is also slow doing everything else like getting into fs2,loading tech room,loading mission briefing,etc.

Don't let this discourage you from d'ling FS, but...
Right-click on the freespace2.exe file, go to "compatibility" tab, select "windows 98/ME", hit okay.
Then try.
Also, if you have a dual-core processor, you may have problems.  Post back if you do.
BTW, if your d'ling from the library, how much can you get?  If you can d'l hundreds of megs, maybe try this:
