Title: Memorial
Post by: Charismatic on May 07, 2007, 01:01:02 pm
I have wanted to post this for over..several years. So il get to the point.

I want this thread to be a memorial of all the great squadrons, clans, and pilots.
Post the names of EVERY Squad  you can think of, and post the link to their alive or dead site\forums.

We use to have something like this on millways i think, or lightspeed had a site but i think he took it down.

So everyone pitch in and lets get everyone named ok? Im going for clans more then pilots cause i know there are alot of them. Like Xerxes who i think no one knows his active IM.

I remember:
EvilOnes Squadron http://www.z7.invisionfree.com/evil_ones_online
SSX
SSC
FF
DW
[dw]
303 http://www.freespace.pl/forum/index.php (unsure if they have a site)

Some other names I can recall are BDHR, RN, RNasty, 4th, Nexus, FD, TCA, TCS, TS, Drak, DE and JTO (this squad was "fake" in a sense). I believe the BDHR guys are still active in other games, but have no idea about the rest.

We wouldn't need a memorial if all these squadrons were active.

We need to put that 'timeframe' thing into action...

EVERY Squad  you can think of, and post the link to their alive or dead site\forums.

Alive or dead.

And come on guys, list more names! Im sure many of you were around longer then i was. And use their full names if you can remember them.
Title: Re: Memorial
Post by: BlackDove on May 09, 2007, 03:33:41 pm
I know them all.

Not because I have such a good memory, but because THERE IS AN INTERNET ARCHIVE OF THE SQUADWAR PAGES THAT LISTS THEM ALL SINCE THE WHOLE THING BEGAN, AND UNTIL IT ENDED.

As for links to each of them, that one's a bit harder, but then again the links posted here were the only worthy ones to post, the rest is trash anyway.

There IS a working search function, believe it or not. Though I don't know if you can actually find the archive on HLP.

Squadwar was like the Quake / CS community, you get on-line, and over weeks/months you build up a kindred band of brothers. Then try to kill them.

The only squads that were really big were the following:

4th Angels Squadron
Tera Squadron
Drak Squadron
GreyDeath Legion
Shattered Star Confederation
RoughNecks
Legion of Apocalypse
TCA - Even though they hacked and cheated.

That's about all I can remember. I must say, it was fun being in 4th, LOA, and SSC :)

Title: Re: Memorial
Post by: Caligma on July 10, 2007, 03:16:58 am
Very true. TCA and RN cheated together actually. They had the same players on each squad so they could control all the nodes. But then again, 4th and TS used to do the same thing. We never played for TS, but we lost certain matches in order to gain strategic nodes so we could face squads we really did not like or wanted to destroy :)

I remember a lot of hate for TCA and 4th back then.
Title: Re: Memorial
Post by: BlackDove on November 27, 2007, 07:57:04 am
Yeah, everyone hated the TCA because they used one of the multiplayer missions that gave the green team (teams selected by host) an advantage, and used it always as their SquadWar defense mission, when they'd be the hosts. They also usually all took fish, and spammed it to lag the other team, while the host picked them off in their packet loss hell (this was when game elements lagged the game due to the prominent days of the 56k and 128 ISDN). It's why when I ran the SSC to the top with QD, we only had 12a NWTR as our defense. No excuses, fair game, good host.

Also, they were a bunch of childish pricks, so that didn't help, G'kar "the leader" most notably, and Vertigo.

4th was hated because DW, most notably Mustang and Suzanne, lied and slandered quite a lot, and because Mustang had the SSC Black Widow reputation he didn't deserve, everyone chose to believe them instead of the 4th, plus Starlegend and Blade didn't help matters with being quite explicit and coming off as rude children, but then again they couldn't help themselves, what with being violated and betrayed by the DW top squad of perpetual asshattery.

It's quite a shame I myself took too late to getting on the 4th's side, and see they were the ones in the right (past the insults and bull****), especially since it was me personally who cost them their league victory, due to being blinded with Mustang's bull**** as well.

Haha, that brings back a lot of memories from the VBB Squadwar forum. I still remember Gkar and the Jefferson Davis ancestry he kept bringing up. :D

I thought 4th were the ones sending the moles into other squads, and even admitted as much. Maybe it was limited to Straykat and the others didn't know about it, or something like that. There were tons of VBB threads on that issue, although I don't know the details of what happened.
Title: Re: Memorial
Post by: BlackDove on November 27, 2007, 03:22:38 pm
4th did whatever they could to make DW eat ****. All wrongdoings they did are therefore, pardoned by me. I'm just sorry I was late to the party (though QD and I were the ones to run them into the ground after we came to our senses).
Title: Re: Memorial
Post by: StarLegend on November 28, 2007, 04:08:38 am
Now those were the days and I noticed some of the evil DWs are still playing the game.

Cant forget one of the very last 2vs2 match against DW when we won critical challenge against DW. Nowhere to run and it was against MaxPain and Monty. Blade did stunning job on back and I managed to sqeeze some kills before bonus and we sure did got it.

It was damn close till last few spawns until Max dropped out, tho he managed to give some swearing in the chat before so called "lagging out". Well it was ok cause they knew and we knew match was decided already at bonus timelimit and kills were quite equal. So 30 seconds later Monty had this wierd system crash too. We waited a while on channel after the game and DW came back asking when we were going to start match. Some how Monty and Max had forgottem they just played the match... with typical outcome. Match was locked for month and me and infinity moved to Tribes 2.

Memories in Memorial... :)

Title: Re: Memorial
Post by: BlackDove on November 28, 2007, 06:06:59 am
Haha, remember Suzanne's magical lag-outs every time her Sekhmet took 8 out of 10 deaths? Always seems to lag just before the other team would win.

I'm also never going to forget my last game with them, however it was 2v4, since QD and I always used to play against 4 people due to 2 just not being a challenge. It was Mustang, Suzanne and one other cronie from DW, and some other random guy. They were using fake nicknames (that we already knew of) in order to try and beat us, then brag about it (because if it was DW, we would've given them the chance to go head to head without any help from others, and make it a clean defeat).

Obviously when we started kicking their ass left and right, and they were well into their sixth and seventh deaths, we told them we knew it was them, and menitoned just how much they suck. Suddenly three out of four players on the opposite team disconned.

Classic stuff.

Of course if you want to go back in time to the original squadwar there were the V squads.  A short resurrection of that squad came about until someone started his old **** and got himself and his V kicked out of the BDHR.

BlackDove,

I'm finding it hard to follow what you're saying regarding 4th Angels. When StrayKat was leading it, we left the game because of TCA and RN cheating, not because of DW. I've been gone for a while, so maybe you're talking about when StarLegend brought 4th back. But that was never considered the "original" 4th Angels Squadron.

On a side note, what happened with Mustang? I didn't realize that everybody in SSC/SSX hated him so much. I do miss Spidar though, he was the best Black Widow. At least he was when I was helping Mustang lead the Black Widows.

In the memorial spirit of course--

I just miss it all. Dang, one time (bearing in mind we were stupid nub teenagers) during a friendly against DW, a 4v4. My mate LOA--Dredd and i turned on our own wing and proceeded to eliminate everyone but DW-Suzanna and gaurded her valiantly for a whole ten minutes.

Then the she killed us . and we're were hormonally unable to fight back as she had those damned boots on.

I miss updating my pilot pic to add every rank increase or ace-badge.

Well not the orginal for sure since many of the original NA players dropped during the flamewars with TCA and RN except you and invfuture. But since TCA and RN didnt pollute EU side of the squadwars we kept the record going for a long time and flag raised high since we lost matches only rarely. For me it was always the same angels squadron nothing else. Those where the days I started playing a lot of multiplayer games and I still miss faces like ICE-4th, Hitman-4th and from later part Blade-4th.

Even had Angels Squadron team in Black Prophecy but couldnt find any other old spacesim fans there :/. Some Freedom Fighter guys where around.

But best is that dear fellow Infinity-4th from full eu team is still with me in esports genre and has been so for now over 13 years. Amazing. both of us can be found from irc: quakenet : #clan.nf

Oh, I didn't know this thread was here.

I remembered the LOA, they recruited members like mad. I used to be a member of the Hellcats [HC]. They wern't a very big squad, or good for that matter, but they were a friendly bunch.

Then there was the Darkwing squad [DW], they were good right?

I actually think I remembered seeing Fubar's name back then. He used to be into flying vasudan bombers right?
