So, what is your favorite command ship from Freespace?
-
I voted Galatea, but the Bastion made me weep tears of manly joy.
-
Mine is Galatea. That was my favorite.
-
There is the GVD Memphis, even though it was for a (very) short while.
-
I like Vasudans the Psamtik Main Hall, so the GVD Psamtik is my favorite :)
And i was very sad, when this ship was destroyed by another Sathanas.
-
Galatea, by far
-

I don't think that one is worth mentioning, since I forgot about it.
-
Okay, Analysis:
Galatea: First ship you are stationed on, so...
Bastion: Oh gods, people! thats the ship that saved us from being terraformed! so not much votes?
Krios: GTI... silent threat.. I don't think much people like that, atleast one person does.
Soyakaze: ...
Aqautine: Admiral Petrach!
Psamtik: This ship saves you some times during the campaign, perhaps thats why it has more votes then the Aquatine, wich, AFAIK, only appears twice.
-
Bastion, FTW!
-
GTD Bastion. I almost cried when I saw its self-destruction...
-
I love Galetea. My favourite ship... I remember how I was sad when this destroyer has been destroyed.
-
I don't know why, but I felt attached to the Galatea. When it was destroyed i was like "NOOOOO!!". and when the Bastion came in i was like [subversive] poser poser poser poser poser [subversive]. I was like "you'll never match the Galatea.
-
Except the Bastion survived 32 years longer than the Galatea did.
-
20+ of those years it was de-commissioned
-
mine goes to the bastion. talk about going out with a bang. (bad pun. sorry)
-
I voted for the Psamtik--it saved my butt enough times to make me want it. I was so surprised and went wtf!?? when it went out... anyways the Bastion was also an excellent ship, the final mission sent me goosebumps, like so much of the end of the campaign did. Moments when you just watch and listen, the words and actions of the fictional people is so memorable... this game beats a "great" movie any day.
-
The Galatea was the best, it was the only destroyer that really felt like home. When the Lucifier destroyed it, I became bent on vengeance.
-

12- of those years were active duty that the Galatea never saw because it was destroyed. And it's better to be decommissioned than to be destroyed.
-
Galatea 1st, Bastion 2nd... :p Always!

View in IE:
Yesss..... they stole it from us,... OUR PRECIOUS!!!
-
I'm voting for the Repulse because a) coolest name, b) Admiral Koth is a crazy badass, and c) I am an NTF fan.
-
Ah, you Neo-Terran scum-bags. You can't even afford proper weapons :p
GTD Hecate. Screw You
-
Psamtik's got boxes for the headz of said scumbags.
-
The Psamtik.
I loved the screens.
-
GTD Bastion for me
-
Except the Bastion survived 32 years longer than the Galatea did.
And do you know the real reason that they warped in so far from the Delta Serpentis-Sol node? Because they were too pussy to chase the Lucy

Yes and I suppose being intercepted by another hostile destroyer had nothing to so with it. And besides, what good is not being a pussy if you're DEAD? I mean, me personally, I'd rather be alive and a pussy than dead and not one. You're basically saying "if you're smart enough to not ram through a several hundred thousand ton destroyer than your a pussy". I don't know about you, but me, I would be the pussy in that situation. And you would be what? Dead? Ahh. Yes. Because some things are more important than living. :p

+1
Anyways... the Psamtik is the destroyer that has saved my butt the most!
-
I liked being stationed on the psamtik. The vasudans aren't so afraid of the shivans, and for the most part you spent a lot of time in the nebula going on the offensive hunting shivans instead of vice versa for once. Not to mention the psamtik is the destroyer that launched all the fighters that let the collie shoot very slowly at a fish in water for a long time.

Intercepted by a destroyer? The Tantalus intercepted it at the Beta Aquilae (?) to Delta Serpentis node! That had nothing to do with how far it jumped in from the Lucifer.
-
What happended to that PVD anvil or something like that?
EDIT: oh well, most of my point still stands: Better to be a pussy alive than not a pussy and dead.
-
No love for Silent Threat? :(

So, you're not keen on the whole liberty-or-death, die-for-a-good-cause, all-for-one-and-one-for-all thing?
-
DEATH BEFORE HONOR!
:pimp:
-
DEATH BEFORE HONOR!
er... not dishonor?
-
whatever..i forgot what that movie was about, anyway
-
Well, depending on the circumstances, sometimes it's better to live to fight another day. Letting the Lucy have its way with Terra is not one of these circumstances... that being said, if you let your Destroyer get to 5-15 % hull strength by ignoring a HOL ship to go after the Lucy, well, you're not doing your homeworld any favors. Sending the fighters & bombers ahead was the right thing to do.
-

At the time that they said "Frig this, we give up!" the Anvil hadn't warped in yet. It warped in about 3000 meters from the node.

Yeah well, but when they didn't say "Frak this, we give up!", and just kept going, Earth would be terraf destroyed. It was the better idea to send the fighters and bombers.... and an Orion is no match for an Alpha 1.
-
the galatea!
i love the name!
its the ultimate orion! i dunno why!
edit : and the first destroyer class i ever saw ingame
GOOD OLD TIMES
-
Although I voted Hatsheput in the other thread. I voted Galatea on this as I felt more loyalty to the Galatea, me being a terran and all!
-

No, it's just that the Bastion wasn't needed. As seen in the last mission of FS1, the Lucifer would have been destroyed even if the Bastion hadn't followed.
With that said, I can use this argument: do you really define "not be a pussy" as a cause worthy of dying for? :nervous:
-
If the Bastion had entered the node, the Lucifer would have surely just turned round and annihilated it, it wouldn't have done any good.
-
Somehow, I can't picture something the size of the Lucifer being able to pull a 180 in the midst of an interdimensional corridor. :p
-
I don't think that the ship who is the subspace's "center" would be able to move at all...
-
It could, however, launch hordes of fighters / bombers... But the same goes for the Bastion. And without shields, the Lucy would be pretty vulnerable to the Bastion's turrets. Capships without shields is what they were designed for, after all... :drevil:
-

Which is sort of what it did. It launched fighters.
-
How much less hitpoints did the Bastion have than the Lucifer? Using just the Bastion's turrets would take way too long and all of the fighters would be stuck protecting the Bastion, and with all of it's fighter compliment out, the GTA bombers wouldn't stand a chance. But without the Bastion, as seen in the last FS1 mission, they would view the hostiles as less of a threat, and sortie less craft.
-
The Bastion has 100,000 hitpoints, the Lucifer has 800,000.
-
That was a rhetorical question :nervous:.
-
So kill me.

*eyes sodium chloride shaker*

Whenever I play FS, I imagine that the player character is always the same person, regardless of the campaign played (I have never ever played JAD though, so that one probably doesn't count.)
Be it FS1, FS2, Inferno, Transcend, Sync, whatever.
"The year might be 2400, but I WILL CONTINUE FIGHTING FOR ADMIRAL WOLF!!!"
-
*eyes sodium chloride shaker*
Geez what do you think the tungsten carbide shells are for?
-
The Soyakaze, but, admittedly, more for what I have done with it then what was done with it in any canon, and I suspect ST:R.
-

Eh? What have you done with it?
And what do you mean, you "suspect"? You're a beta tester!
-
Still do not see bits. :p That and I wasn't willing to go back and check...
Anyways the Soyakaze is supposed to play a semi-central role in my next campaign, but due to irreconcible table problems (at least I think they were with the tables, but they happened in FRED; you lost the cursor, but only seemed to occur with some tables) I've had to start over.
-
i find this whole arguement about the bastion and the lucifer quite funny. did you forget what happened to the subspace corridor when the lucy blew? if the bastion was in there then the GTVA would be missing the destroyer that saved them from the sath fleet. then what.
-
Then they'd use another Orion, maybe? It's not like there was some colossal shortage of them or anything. Just right off the top of my head, I know the Messana was still floating about by that point in the campaign.
-
I think it was a trade off between being realistic and protecting Earth. Yes, they could send the Bastion after the Lucifer, but against the beam cannon on the Lucifer, it would last something like 3 shots. The difference between Destroyers in FS1 was far far greater than in FS2.
The fact is that, if the attack DID fail, they needed something in place to stop the Lucifer getting back out again, there's only one way in and out of the Sol system via subspace, so the only way out for the Lucifer was back along the route it had come. This meant another journey without shields, whereby the Bastion would have another shot at taking it down.
