Title: Cheating in FSPort
Post by: Terashell on July 15, 2007, 07:11:49 pm
I'm not sure where to put this question, since it's not related to an actual graphics or system question, but...

I was going into a single mission in the tech room, to do the infinite weapons in the main game secret (Enter a single mission, type www.volition-inc.com, ~w, ~i, quit mission, have infinite weapons in the main game until you restart the game)  and it wouldn't work.  Is there a method to do this?  Is there a way to go into the code for the game and force the values to not change?  I'm on Very Easy on the mission where you have to disable and disarm a Vasudan Hammer Of Light cruiser, and I can't freaking do it.  I want to cheat to do it, or at least, y'know, access some sort of setting where I can unlock all the missions as playable so I can skip the damn thing, and I can't.

Same question goes for FS2 Open... How do I cheat?

I know this practice is frowned upon, but I've beaten both games on my own back when they were released, but either the port, or something, has changed, and I can't beat them anymore... Help out an old man...

when using fsport, or any mods with it, you always use the freespace 2 cheats (www.freespace2.com). FSport is technically a mod for fsport, so you use that.

It has to be the first part of a red-alert mission, IIRC.

I thought you could skip a mission if you failed it 5 times in a row?

you can

I'd rather actually succeed...  What I really need is invulnerability, heh... but that won't carry over.

Apparently, the codes don't want to work at all except for in the single missions.  Grrrr... Is there a way to edit the settings thing in the folder?  This mission is pissing me off.  I don't die, they just kill off the rest of my wing and I can't disable the damn ship because its firepower is obscene...

Which mission is this?

"The Darkness and the Light"
You jump in, have to take out some Vasudan fighters, then disable and disarm a cruiser so that the GTVA can capture and interrogate the Hammer of Light members on board... Shivans jump in, which you have to destroy, along with the Tyrannis(sp?), a shivan cruiser which seems to defend the vasudan cruiser...

45 minutes in that mission before I got the engines down, and I can't get survive the sustained from both a Vasudan and Shivan cruiser in order to get the turrets out of the way... I was also told by command not to engage the Tyrannus(sp?)

Needs me my cheats...

Oh that. Just park way out from both cruisers, hammer any Shivan fighters that get too close, and wait for the Taranis to destroy the Ramses. You could alternatively hammer the Ramses during the moments before the Taranis arrives, making it easier for the Taranis to destroy the Ramses.

The Taranis doesn't seem to attack the Ramses... It just kinda floats there.  Should I just send my wing away before they all get killed after we get rid of the initial Vasudans?

Once you trash the Vasudans, and the Shivans arrive, draw your wing back to you, and keep away from the Taranis. That cruiser poses some threat to your wingmen. And it is attacking the Ramses, but blob turrets take forever. You might want to help it along by pounding the Ramses' bottom.

I've never understood why the subject of cheating in single-player anything is so taboo, especially after beating the game in question about 100 times over.  I play around with the cheats all the time for fun and interesting side-effects... that and I find it absolutely hilarious to see a Perseus shredding multiple cap-ships with BFReds.

Anyway, the Freespace2 cheats are fully-functional in FS_Open, including FSPort.  Hit http://www.hard-light.net/wiki/index.php/Cheats (http://www.hard-light.net/wiki/index.php/Cheats) and you can do it all while continuing in the campaign to boot, unlike in retail FS1.

speaking of cheats, what is ~+U supposed to do?  I hit it every now and then by mistake when trying to hit ~+I, and oftentimes it crashes the game.

Diablo, it says nothing about being able to continue in the game unless you do it before  a Red-Alert... and unfortunately, I'm passed the only Red-Alerts I know about... I'm at the point where I have to fly the Dragon and scan the Lucifer.  Not to mention I don't know how to go back to previous missions without using the mission simulator.
Title: Re: Cheating in FSPort

FSPort is FS2, where you can continue after cheating.  However, I think the ~+W cheat gets wiped after each mission.

There is no way to go back without using the simulator that I know of, besides hitting the replay mission button at the end of it.  As for the dragon mission, pull all power out of your weapons and into shields and engines.  Go into the fighterbay after scanning the lucifer, then fly like mad till your jumpdrive works, put all energy into shields and alt+j home.

so the campaign will advance if I use the invulnerability code in Playing Judas (the Dragon-flight)?  That would be handy, I keep getting detected by the Arjuna wing...

The ~+W doesn't get wiped, apparently. I ~+W for one mission and it worked on the next. Even though i didn't type www.freespace2.com second time around.

Damn the Eva!  It jumped out too quickly, this is going to be the third time I've done this mission >.<  Some of these missions... Grrrrrrrr.   :hopping:

Uh. You're supposed to let the Eva jump. No way to catch it, really. I have a faint suspicion its SEXP is to depart the moment you arrive.

Not in Playing Judas, it just leaves really quickly.  It's a primary objective, and if I don't get it scanned, then I can't continue on with the campaign.

Oh. That one. Real simple, line up behind the Eva, and scan it. Scan it the moment it arrives. For the record try to aim some where to the middle of the destroyer.

just press alt+s and then aim for the lead indicator to scan it.

Post by: Stormkeeper on July 16, 2007, 11:46:53 am
... Alt+S ? what does that do? Show the scan lead indicator? Cuz if it does, i now feel like a totally dufus for manually lining up the scan with no lead indicator.
Title: Re: Cheating in FSPort

in a way. It un-targets whatever subsystem your targeting so you can see the lead indicator of the ship.

IIRC I targeted the Eva's engines...they were closer to the position I was in so I could get a scan.

But I still hate that mission. It would have been more fun if you actually landed in the lucifer's hangar, but no such luck...

I hate all stealth missions. Until you succeed. Then you really feel good. Especially PI's stealth missions.

Well, that was odd... I failed Playing Judas, then quit to take a break and go play Rent-a-Geek for a family member... i get back, log in, and lo and behold, it's on the next mission...

Interesting...

Thanks for all the help and advice.

Failed Playing Judas, but you managed to advance to the next mission? If you got discovered when trying to land in the Lucifer's fighterbay, that's not failing, that's correct. What does your de-brief say?

Oh, right, command doesn't think.

Command: Alpha 1, we've planted a Shivan disguise in your fighter. Put it on, and try to pass for a Shivan while you explore the ship. Try asking for directions to the bridge.
Alpha 1: ...

Lol I think the reference is from some movie about a guy who was really smart and could predict earthquakes because of a brain tumor, and he was the help that people got for a Portuguese kid who fell out of a tree or something, and this guy read a textbook and learned fluent Portuguese on the car ride to the kid (as I said, VERY smart).  Could be wrong though on intended reference, but it can be referring to that.

That's like one of the SoC missions in FS2.  I killed the civvy transport, got yelled at for violating BETAC, was told I'm a disgrace to the GTVA uniform, and that I'd be grounded until further notice and then prosecuted, yet I could continue to the next mission.

I guess the Criminal Justice system works much faster in FS2-world.

I failed Playing Judas because I didn't scan the Eva, but I managed to get everything else scanned.  When I got to the debriefing, it said that I couldn't continue, so I took the break.

I got back, and it was on the mission where I had to destroy the Eva.

Screwed up. Are these bugs or sth?

Also, command wanted Alpha 1 into teh fighterbay so he could sabotage their fighters, i.e spray paint them blue, or stick birds into the engine nozzles, not to mention splash mash potatoes on their view screens.

No, it said "your failure will have dire consequences", right?

You're allowed to continue even if you fail to scan the Eva.  All this means is that you'll have an extra cruiser to bother you in the next mission.

Rly? Not scanning the Eva will cause another cruiser to be around? Never knew that....

I didn't scan the Eva, tried to accept the debrief after I'd scanned everything else and it wouldn't let me, said I had to replay the mission.

*shrugs* I've beaten the original FS now.  Going to move on to the main campaign of freespace 2 tonight, probably.

Ehrm, okay. You just have to destroy all cargo and shivan fighters, and jump out... the mission will be acomplished.

Actually, Command thought you could stay out of trouble in the Fighterbay of the lucifer until your jumpdrive came back up

The film in question is "Phenomenon" starring John Travolta. And no that's not the reference he meant. It's a reference to either a mission in the game or some other campaign, (possibly DEM or JAD1, 2 or 3)????
