Title: Can i play co-op with my friend with "hacked" files?

Didnt want to use my necromantic skills.
I have a few new HTL models and the stupid multiplayer screams hacker.
I got my friend into Freespace and he wanted to go co-op in-game.
Do our models have to be the same? And if I am registered as a "hacker", can I still play with him?

I wont show up on his list and he wont show up on mine.
I have no firewall enabled and my computer is currently a DMZ.
We both have the PXO enabled and i have logged in properly.
Both of us are labeled as "hackers". could that have anything to do with not being able to connect?
We have the same stuff enabled.

The Mediavps folder is the current "mod" and it has the regular mediavps from Turey's install pack.
what do I do to
