Title: Help with "Wing Commander III"
Post by: rpaha on September 07, 2007, 12:46:06 pm
Howdy Ya'll !!!! I'm new to this 4-um, and I've come here in search for help in being able to play a game that I have loved since the day that I bought it. As ya'll (undoughtably)know Wing Commander III is a DOS game. I haven't been able to play this game for several years because of the S/W limitations in "working & playing" in the Windows XP platform. If anyone knows of, or can point me in the direction to the correct resoultion to my problem(i.e. patch, emulater, etc.) I would sincerely appreciate it!!! Also, If there is a "compareable" game out there, feel free to suggest the same!!
Please understand.. .. .. I'm not much of a "gamer". Wing Commander III was easy for me to play. I just "went in" my ship & started shootin stuff up. No "extensive" set-up's or anything complicated.
I really miss this game & would LOVE to play it again!! Hell .. .. .. .. I still have all 4(origional) disks and the "reference card" for the key board commands!!
ANY help would be GRATEFULLY APPRECIATED !!!

It might work in DOSBox.

Might be worth a shot.

If you like Wing Commander, try "our" game. FreeSpace is a great universe and not hard to get into. I remember playing it when I was like 12 years old, and it wasn't difficult at all to get into. The game is available on amazon or ebay, and maybe some other places, too

DOSBox will work. There is a Wing 3 specific walkthrough here (http://www.wcnews.com/techsupport.shtml#wc3).

Welcome to the HLP, rpaha! Google is great, isn't it?

As you may have noticed, "our" game (FreeSpace 2 Open) has a Wing Commander mod.

It runs fine on Windows XP and has great graphics (unless you're a nostalgia type). The only problem you might have with it is the steep learning curve, but if you stay on the lower difficulty levels you'll have no problem.

I'm not much of a "gamer". Wing Commander III was easy for me to play. I just "went in" my ship & started shootin stuff up. No "extensive" set-up's or anything complicated.

Many people are scared away when they hear about "setups". Don't be. Most people here aren't all that techy and they run the game fine; setting up FreeSpace is little more than moving a few files around. Actually, if you ever want to try it out, just run the installer.

Anyway, enough self promotion. Enjoy your stay, however long you want to spend here. And I recommend wcnews.com for help with the classic Wing Commander games.
