Title: The Babylon Project Campaign Pack 1.0 now available! (thread updated)
Post by: hip63 on November 02, 2007, 07:03:51 pm
The Babylon Project Campaign Pack v1.0

To bring to an end the "where's some freakin' TBP campaigns?" threads, I have compiled all the TBP Campaigns I could find into one easy installer.

Included Campaigns and Mission Sets:

B5 Star Fury Pilot Missions        (by madaboutgames)
Earth Alliance Training               (by madaboutgames)
Infestation                               (by madaboutgames)
Survivor                                  (by madaboutgames)
Tale of the EAS Janus               (by Lady Rose)
Drums of War - Part 1               (by 0rph3u5)
Drums of War - Part 2               (by 0rph3u5)
The Black Hand - Episode 1       (by 0rph3u5)

The Babylon Project version 3.4 or higher is required to play.

Enjoy! (and quit yer whining! LOL ;))

PLEA FOR MORE CAMPAIGNS!!!

To TBP Mission Builders: Release your campaigns like you nornally do, host'em where you like (we still need them hosted individually so we don't drive 56k'ers crazy) but just let me know and I'll download'em and roll'em into the campaign pack.

To TBP fans: I know of at least on TBP campaign that is MIA, that being the "Honor of Omega." It's listed on the official TBP Homepage but the link is DEAD.
If you have this campaign (or any others that I missed) please let me know and get'em to me and I'll roll'em into the campaign pack!

END PLEA

Are all of these going to be bundled with 3.4a?
Title: Re: The Babylon Project Campaign Pack 1.0 now available!

Nope :blah:

The resaon being that as new campaigns are released, the Campiagn Pack can be updated, uploaded and downloaded much easier that having to rebuild the 3.4 versions of TBP and having everyone having to re-download a huge Gig+ file just because some new campaign is released.

I just noticed that Vidmaster has released a new campaign, "Fortune Hunters - 2259"

Official thread here:
http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,50262.0.html

This, of course, will be rolled into the next version of the TBP Campaign Pack in coming weeks (maybe it will have some company, who knows ;7)

Played furtune hunters, and I enjoyed it !

I appreciate the small things that "add" to the TBP universe. For example the hidden Raiders outpost with the refitted Nova.

I worked a llllllooooonnnggg time on the script (the whole one, not only 2259). Actually, I intended to make this campaign for I've found her (another B5 space game) or to write some sort of fan fiction...                   ...but then I said to myself: Hey, you're playing Freespace and all the mods since the original was released, why the hell did you never learn FRED ? What came out can be enjoyed at the link above

Half the campaigns don't work properly anymore. (with 3.4a)

Tales of EA Janus being one of hte bigger offenders. I had to tweak half the missions, sine ther were missing ships (Nemessis), invalid dock points (shutllte picking up that stranded Aurora didn't trigger) and a few other things.

Nova-x

B.t.w - is it just me or are Earth-Minbari war ship TERRIBLY underpowered.
I know Sharlins are da bomb and taking one out was allways coupled with HEAVY losses for the EA, but hell, 3 novas and 4 hyperions can't get it below 50% hull. This is preposterus!

Human weapons didn't suck that much (as evidenced by the fact that the first salvo from a few hyperion cruisers when the humans and minbari first met damaged a sharlin enough to kill off several very important people...yet in the game a few hyperions can't manage to get 2% hull integrity off a sharlin :hopping:)

And yet, in the Long Twilight Struggle, three Narn Cruisers whose tech is about on par with the EA managed to disable a Shadow Battlecrab (large one that carries fighters), which is a hell of a lot more advanced than a Sharlin.  It's odd, isn't it?
Title: Re: The Babylon Project Campaign Pack 1.0 now available! (thread updated)
Post by: Vidmaster on November 08, 2007, 08:23:24 am
That's just Freespace. The EA ships don't come close enough to do real damage.

AND the Narn use beams in that episode, beam tech which they have taken from the Centauri and sold to the EA. But during the war, Earthforce didn't have those.

Theres a difference between "not doing much damage" and "doing so little damage that 1000 of your best ships can't even dent the paint on mine".
IMHO, it's just retarded.

Oh, I upped the damage of the Nova and Hyperions weapons considerbably.

They still get creamed but they finally managed to take one of the Sharlins with them (was playing EM-war Demo) :D

This is, this should be default.

Back to the campaign pack.  If I remember correctly the 3.4a patch used a version of Turey's installer.  Any chance of getting the campaigns added as options?

Even if the balancing of TBP is far away from perfect, if you start to change the EA weapons, you got to upgrade the Narn ships too and the...
Still, I agree, the Hyperion is basically worthless. Just one question: How did you do that? changed the code?
Title: Re: The Babylon Project Campaign Pack 1.0 now available! (thread updated)

Pft...ships.tbl and weapons.tbl.

And I changed E-M War era ships only, so no other ships needed change. Nova is still a rust bucket that will get creamed by any other later destroyer, but at least it can fight back a bit.

There is nothing wrong with balancing. The Minbari ships just were vastly superior to Earthforces.
Otherwise Lefcourt wouldn't have jacked off and broadcasted the Sheridan-nuked-a-sharlin-show on all pay-tv channels.

Apparently some do still not understand how one-sided this "war" was.
Greetings and kisses !
Title: Re: The Babylon Project Campaign Pack 1.0 now available! (thread updated)
Post by: TrashMan on November 09, 2007, 02:06:38 pm
I do...Sheridans victory was significant since it was a 1-on-1 with a Sharlin and Sheridan won...and lived.

I wathced the show and NEVER got the impression that the Mimbari weren't taking losses themselves. Yes, they were vastly superior...but just how much is vastly? Human weapons weren't THAT pathetic from what I recall.

yes, it took a whole friggin fleet to take out 1 sharlin, but in-game even 2 full fleets can't do it.
200 damage per shot for those guns on the Nova?
Christ, even the blob turrets on the FS1 Orion were better than that.

800-1000 shuld be the damage IMHO (similar to the Warlocks plasma cannons)
Title: Re: The Babylon Project Campaign Pack 1.0 now available! (thread updated)
Post by: FUBAR-BDHR on November 09, 2007, 04:38:29 pm
I think the problems with the Mimbari war more towards targeting and sensors then weapons.  The Mimbari were not being picked up on sensors. They could also do pinpoint jumps into our fleets using not only their weapons but the shockwave of the jump point forming to tear through our forces before we could even lock on.

I guess what I am saying is that it wasn't that we couldn't damage the ships we just never got the chance after the initial firefight.
Title: Re: The Babylon Project Campaign Pack 1.0 now available! (thread updated)
Post by: TrashMan on November 09, 2007, 05:05:23 pm
Well, targeting is a issue in the campaign, as well as jumping, but you're claiming humans couldn't get a shot off?

Note that even with 1000 damage per Hypersion/Nova big guns it still take a whole fleet ot take out (barelay) one Sharlin... I'm talking 3 Novas + support Hyperions.

The way it is ATM, 10 Novas and 20 Hyperions can't scrath a Sharlin.
Title: Re: The Babylon Project Campaign Pack 1.0 now available! (thread updated)
Post by: FUBAR-BDHR on November 09, 2007, 05:48:34 pm
Actually I was defending your theory that the weapons should do more damage.  If you watched the series you should have noticed that most of the flashbacks to the Earth Mimbari war show very quick confused battles from the Earth ships.  Thus my point that it wasn't that the weapons couldn't do more damage they just didn't have the chance.

This is just one of the things that never seemed to make that much sense to me and I think that has more to do with making the Minbari overpowered period.  I mean, for God's sake, Delenn's White Star group took out a whole Drakh raiding party in Lines of Communication.  While the White Stars are indeed impressive, the Drakh LIVED on Z'ha'dum with direct access to ALL of the Shadows' technology.  There is no way that they should've been destroyed as easily as they had been.  At best, it should've ended in stalemate.

Don't get me wrong, I like the Minbari, but for the love of God, there should be races outside of the First Ones that can give them a run for thier money.  From what was mentioned in the Legions of Fire Trilogy, it may have well indeed been the Drakh, since the plague was originally going to be used on Minbar after the Shadow planet killer destroyed Earth.  Other races would include the Third Space aliens (but seriously, these guys fall into the First Ones category seeing how they one-upped the Vorlons for a while), and The Hand (well that's more speculative at this point since the only thing we saw were a few small attack craft blow apart the Valen and damage the Liandra).

The Minbari are meant to be the strongest race out there apart from the First Ones. Even the Centauri at their height of their power were scared of them.

Sorry if im not known here yet, but i been reading this thread and its interesting to talk about the E-M war, but sad to say that our ships like the nova, hyperion and olympuses were of no match but if u remember from Mollari on humans part during in the beggining when he spoke of them we still made them fight hard for every inch of space to the point were even thier ships were getting killed, but on here on TBP thats how it should be. Oh btw i have a new mission that is almost done and its a beta not sure if yall caught my post on here but does anyone want to test it, its fun as hell and hard if need be.-D

Oh btw it wasnt till later on in what the late 2260's and 70's that the earthforce created the Warlock Class Destroyer only then we could mostly go 1 on 1 vs a Sharlin, even though i think also that the omega's were being upgraded some as well, there is a canonical event in the b5 universe where that happens even on youtube someone made a vid of it so ask me if u want the link.-D

Your opinoin has been noted. As it was the first time. What I suggest you do now is jump in a time machine, go back a few years to when ship balancing was being discussed, and make your opinions known in that particular time frame. Thanks.

For which package?  The one I just posted about, or the Campaign pack 1.0, or both?  If it includes the 3.4a, I was waiting for the "last official" 3.4a to come out, as it had a few bugfixes that are needed.  (3.4b, I guess it would be?)

Quite a while since I have been here last time, about 2 years now. Sorry to revive this topic with such insignificant point.

I just want to say that Tale of EAS Janus was orginaly made for TBP Release 1, it has been even longer time since it was released and TBP has gotten quite far since R1. Bear with the issues and hope you can still have somewhat fun with it, because I have no intention or time to fix such problems.

Only thing I am sorry is that I never finished up with second part not to meantion third one.

The campaign "B5 Star Fury Pilot Missions" is not showing in the campaign menu in TBP 3.4b.
I tried to install with the Campaign Pack 1.0 and manually by unzipping the "b5sfpilot.vp (http://www.filedomain.net/manager/file.php?id=7)" into TBP folder.
Is there a way to fix this? Or does it only work with an older TBP version?

Well there doesn't seem to be a campaing file included.  I don't know if it's supposed to be a campaign or just a group of single missions.  If you want to play them you can always go to the mission simulator in the tech room.  Click on the single missions in the lower left corner and it should display them.
