I've heard that Colossus was only a temporary title, but my CD set says Colossus on it...
Please explain.
-
Freespace 2: Colossus is an OEM version of Freespace 2. Colossus is a special release version of the classic space sim - offering 10 of the original missions (there are 30 in the full release). It includes music, CB anims and voice files.
The way I've always understood it is, that 'Colossus' is a limited bundle version of the actual FreeSpace 2, delivered with some computer packages and such.
-
Nope; mine has all the missions, from "Surrender, Belisarius" to "Apocalypse" (the one people stupidly call "Incoming Transmission")...
And it says on one or more of the CDs (I don't have them right now to look at) "Colossus"
-
That's odd. Where did you get the game? Cause I have Freespace 2 : Colossus and it comes on one disk only.
-
My parents bought it for me on Amazon as a birthday gift.
It's got 3 CDs, the first is red and is the install CD, and the other two are green and blue.
-
This year or last year?
No doubt you have the U Wish Games version in that case.
-
Several years ago (maybe 2005?)
-
Sorry to double post, but I found where it says it:
It's on the red CD (Disk 1, Install CD), in the installation instructions.
INSTALLATION
Insert the FreeSpace 2: Colossus CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive. Setup will automatically start the installation process. Follow the on-screen instructions.

Mine is exactly the same. I got it like...5-7 years ago?

When you say that, do you mean that the physical CD label says "FreeSpace 2: Colossus," or does the subtitle only appear in the installation instructions? It sounds like a copy-paste oversight, in the latter case, that most of us never caught, since most of us didn't particularly need instructions on how to navigate the daunting maze that is Install Shield.

Freespace 2: Colossus is the sorta demo that includes act 1 of FS2 (AKA the hammerhead, raven, and suicide kings missions) and was bundled up with this really good logitech force-feedback joystick that, incidentely, doesn't work with freespace. it makes the game stall up to the point were you have to cut your comps power.
the Colossus demo is what got me started in FS. :)
-
The Installation Instructions I refer to are the ones PRINTED on the CD.
I think it might be the sci-fi game of the year edition.

Well I'm at a loss as to what version you have, as the sci-fi sim of the year edition doesn't have instructions like that...

IIRC information. Meaning it could be wrong.
-
Only on the red (install) cd.

Only on the red (install) cd.
There are no install instructions on the red install CD.
-
Then you have a different version

Sounds like a regular version of FS2 with a Colossus label slapped on the CD. Enjoy your ownership of an oddity. Can we move on now?
-
Can we move on now?
No. We're completely on topic, so no reason to deviate.
-
He meant the debate has been settled, and there's no reason to keep talking at all.
Not that I agree...
-
Then you have a different version
Seriously WTF? Grow up, please. You thought that you might have the game of the year edition, and I was attempting to tell you that you didn't. I was not trying to start an argument. Roll your god damn eyes elsewhere.

The joystick was the logitech Wingman Force 3D. i got it and it came with FS2: Collossus. However the joystick worked perfectly, and continues to do so for me, on 2 seperate computers

Same here, sept i was 9 years old when i got it. That means it met the inevitable fate of me getting pissed and chucking it accross the room, breaking it completely.
But now, being 13, i know a lot better :D and i got a logitech attack 3.
