Just went to VBB and asked something about something. Five minutes later I see about 8 replies. I'm happy of course but there was not a single reply answering my question, Just flaming. Has anyone ever get a straight answer from VBB. Well I haven't! Me thinks that VBB just suck, it's a total nightmare!!! :mad:

Its a 'Drunkards Only' forum I think.
All the newbies there get flammed.
It also depends on what type of question it is.
Examples:
Good Threads: How Freespace Changed my Life, Tech Question
Bad Threads: TaS #31!!, Will There be a Freespace3?, Does my butt look big in this?
You get the idea.

You get a straight answer when a non-Newbie shows up.

The VBB is just...different. :) When you post at HLP the people who respond are usually in a normal state of mind and will respond intelligently. When you post at the VBB almost all of the responses you get are from either from "stupid 10 year old AOLers" or paronoid vets who think your a "troll"

As a VBB member I must come to its defense. Yes, you've had a bad experience but to be honest I could point a several topics which do not degrade into useless flame-wars. If you looked hard enough on any forum you can find topics which either paragons of politeness or topics that turn to flame wars before the second topic.

VBB is fun... granted you can't exactly have a sensible chat about THAT game, but you can get a laugh if you don't take it too seriously.

In the mom it's just the terrible mixture of visitors on VBB:
- "ALLKNOWING ROOKIES"
- veterans (or ppl who think they are)
After having visited VBB ONCE you CANNOT determine anything - you will be handled as a newbie (are you :) ?)
I won't tell anything about the kind of questions asked on VBB.
But I will check this here whether it will become better :D :)
and I would wonder IF it will be better here after 3 years....YOU must prove that :) so lets see what will happen..

hey....
FPSs aren't that bad. I must say I thoroughly enjoy Red Faction Demo (Even if Alt-Tab don't work on my machine). C&C renegade rocks, Quake 3 is good for an incredeble fragfest (some days you need those...), and the Tribes 2 demo is pretty cool too.

Obviously you don`t visit the Fred Forum often. There is simply no better place to ask questions about Mission Editing than on that board.
As for the freespace forum it does tend to have a lot of people causing problems but I've seen some very good discussions on that board too.

Yeah, some cretin decided to register with HLP as a name (or something similar) and post that all over the place - where I've seen it I've pointed out it's nothing to do with us.
Theres somebody called FSW whos registered there as well - coincedence?

What's even funnier is that when you prove otherwise, they either keep repeating the same thing over and over or they "disappear". :) And they wonder why [V] never replies as much as they used to....

Also, the boards are overflowing with n00bs! I mean, they are so new, it's like FS just came out, becase they don't even know about the hidden Silent Threat movies!
It's so..stupid there, it just aggrivates me (no offense to any of the veterans;))

With the way the FS forum is today, i think it should be shut down just like the SW forum was. Its turning into a Newbie bash and Kazan bashing fest for some odd reason.
I dont get why others feel the need to bash others. Why cant we all just agree to disagree or just have fun?

I think VBB is good now, compared to what the SquadWar forum used to be. I mean many of the SW people moved to FS forum and I really think that the FS forum stayed in the "better" light than the old SW forum...

I don't visit VBB very often now. I left it to the newbies and trolls. I enjoy my time here, and I am tired of telling every newbie the same old thing about you know what, and to waste my nerves to defend myself against idiot flamers.
Hey BTW. Right now I finished playing Freespace 2 on my new 19 inch monitor (screen) and wow I turned off the lights and pushed the graphics to the max :D
I recommend to everyone to play Freespace in total dark. It is so great. Now that is the full experience. :nod:

I always play the game at night with all the lights off; as you said, it makes for a much, much better experience. ;) (I can't see anything in the daytime anyway with the glare on the monitor)

hehe, I played "Into the Lions Den" at midnight with the lights out. This was my first time playing the game so I had no idea what to expect. When I heard "DIVE DIVE DIVE! HIT YOUR BURNERS PILOT!", I just about **** in my shorts right then! I literally yelled "Holy ****!" out loud and jammed the joystick down and missed the big S by a couple of meters! :lol:

I've just recently been playing FS2 with AA forced by my Kyro 2... it looks fantastic with high-res AA... :)

I feel somewhat guilty about going to VBB before HLP - unfortunately when I joined there was a huge problem with bumping old posts and general trolling. After a while the place became tolerable, mainly due to the remaining thoughtful Freespace-related conversations that could be participated in. Unfortunately once again VBB is seeing a mass of flaming and thoughtless posting, and the appeal is fading again.
Right off the bat this place feels a lot nicer, I think I should make a point of visiting more often, unless I am considered to be one of those that degrades VBB in which case I wouldn't want to spread such filth in here.

I've experienced exactly what you have; that's why I left permanently. This place is much more friendly and productive. I love it. :)
By no means are we condescending - quite the opposite! We welcome anyone who comes, unless they break the rules, in which case we would rather help you fix your problems, instead of just chucking you out on the streets. That serves no-one. Here, read the HLP FAQ. :)

The first time I played, it scared the hell out of me, but I survived. On my second time through however, I forgot the big S and smashed right into it.
I must have been bumped at least 20 clicks away
