Title: Appeal for voice actors
Post by: IPAndrews on May 21, 2008, 03:21:26 am
At the moment we have a few mission designers who want to add voice acting to their missions and campaigns. Voice makes a huge difference to a mission. Making it easier to play (you can concentrate on fighting instead of reading messages) and more immersive. There are a lot of interesting parts available ranging from major characters to one or two line bit parts. You don't need to have had any experience. All the voice actors who featured in Raider Wars were first timers. It really is very easy. All you need is a quiet room, a microphone, and a few minutes spare time.

If you would like to volunteer to help mission designers add voice acting to TBP campaigns please post a message in this thread. You do not need to post your real email address. Mission designers can contact you via personal mail here on HLP. Thank you.

Crap. I was supposed to do voice acting and testing for Heat 'em Up and then everything went nuts in Real Lifetm and now I can't even find a working Heat 'em Up website to try to get back on the internernals for the project.

Ill report back later on the EACW.
For the Civil War teaser I could need a few actors as backup in case CHAOTARCH can't get the ones working on it report back. Its taking too much time anyway.

I'll be back later on that within the next days.

The roles for the BIG EACW itself are not yet ready for recording.

In case you are interested check this topic again in a few days. THX

GENERAL APPROACH :

To make it easy for voiceactors , if they manage to get the recordings to the campaign authors, its sufficient !

The samples are processed anyway, so stick to a common format that maintaines high quality and does not take much space. Mp3s are always fine, but actually, it doesnt matter.

that's good. We got a mission here with about 80 lines of dialoge (including a many long ones and 5 briefings  :) ).
I will make a thread here in a few days to announce the thing and select the actors.

I would actually prefer the get the mission voice-acted by TBP fans or team-members, only if I don't find anybody here I am going to ask in HLP's voiceactors guild.

I posted my samples in the proper VA thread with a description of myself and previous roles.
http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,42992.0.html

Others should follow suit, as prospective projects get to hear you FIRST and then PM or use the contact info you posted to said "Hey I just heard you and think you'd be great for part X, interested?".

I think it's better that way instead of chasing an actor down and then finding out you don't have a part you think fits them, in that case you've wasted everyone's time and raised the hopes of the actor for nothing.

Only people serious about staying an active FS2voice actor should go that route though...  :D

Count me in. I really dont have an accent considering I have lived in Chennai for 9 years, Dallas Texas for 7 years and Northern New Jersey for 1 year.

Count me in. I dont mind being emailed. I can spend a lot of time doing this, so any voice acting role is okay with me.

Edit: I'm a guy but im pretty young. (16)

Hey, I'll throw my hat in here too.  I've always wanted to try my hand at some voice-acting, though I've never done any.  Keep in mind, I doubt I'm very good, but if you need someone for some short lines, I'll give it a shot.

I have an American Midwestern accent with a touch of a southern drawl.

Also, I'm experimenting with some voice-mod software, so if you have any alien voices needed, I might be able to help there, too.  I know most everyone in the B5 universe sound human

I don't frequent these forums very often, so either use PM or email to get me.  If you just post or something, I likely won't see it for a couple weeks at least.

But the character is only LIKE Maniac. So anywhere the files actually have him mention his pilot handle are out and can't be used. Better to make (relatively) original dialog.

I just uploaded my part in madaboutgame's Earth-Brakiri War. It was my first experience with voice acting and I was a bit shy of my mic, at first, and I felt a little intimidated :nervous: but I ended up having a lot of fun with it.

Murphy's Law was in full force for my foray into this new role. I really feel sorry for having put Shaun through the frustration of waiting so long but I ran into matters beyond my control.  :warp:

Hopefully, I'll get better as I go along. That is, assuming anyone is willing to offer me future roles.

I can do characterizations but my natural speaking voice is a deep bass with a Texan drawl.

I'm up for whatever anyone is willing to send my way. Me and my cheap mic are ready!  :D

It's something I would be interested in doing. My accent is a neutral british but I've lived in wales most of my life. I remember one of the B5 Roleplay books describing welsh people as very good pilots (because wales doesnt have many roads due to the mountains it said :doubt:) But as it is I can do a very good welsh accent given that they are supposed to be very common in the earth alliance. There is one problem though....How do I upload some samples. Dont post that here it'll waste time. Just send me a message or email me.   :)

Hey Vidmaster,

I am sorry for abbandoning the Operations missions.  I guess something happened with my email, as I stopped hearing from you after you sent me the script the second time.  I tried to send you the recordings that weekend, but I guess you never got them, since I never heard back.  I tried emailing a couple more times with no responses.

Well, with that said, I am still available for some VA work.  However, I have a new email to send all files to.  I don't think I can trust my yahoo email with these anymore, so if anyone wants me to do another part, email me at hidalgo (at) go-mow.com.

You know, Getter, after listening to your samples, you sound a lot like Vir. If there was ever a Centauri campaign, that'd be a definite plus for you.

I also have some samples. Sorry, my mic has a few issues, and I usually have to clean it up on my own. Metallica tinge and high treble for a lot of the files. But, see if you like it.

LeGuille's Voice Samples (http://www.4shared.com/file/66470753/3cc593b4/LeGuille_Samples.html)

I use GoldWave 5.23, and some other small stuff to make things like the Classified file a bit cleaner and more appealing.

You know, I have so many imitated voices that my wife is telling me I need to get a job at it professionally.  I've never done it before, but I could probably do an alright job.  I have been waiting for a B5 based video game for so long now, and just happened to stumble onto TBP.  I am thoroughly impressed, as I run the Babylon 5 facebook group and put the link for your mod on the group page.

I'd love to get some voice acting in for anyone's project.  My default voice is somewhat of an amalgam of Midwest and Mid Atlantic American.  I can attain a variety of different accents and age ranges including virtually all US dialects, most Anglo accents, most Slavic, Hispanic, Middle Eastern, and possibly even some Asiatic accents.  I can do anything from short snippets of combat dialog to long winded briefings and reports.  I can also give different "flavors" of characters including yellow bellied newbie pilots, tough as nails drill sergeants, trashy freighter pilots, seasoned fleet officers, etc.  I can also convey emotion in my acting.  Unless you want me to, I'll never deliver a completely monotonous line.  Email me allies_vs_axis(at)yahoo(dot)com if you would like me to voice act.  I am available until August 4th when I ship out for BCT

As a sample for now, here was a Machinima film I had a supporting voice in.  I did the voice of the General in the voice over scene.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cA9tAtDVprQ

My samples are in the voice actors sample thread. (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,42992.20.html)  I'm glad to do pretty much any part for which I'm suited; in most cases, I can work very promptly, having work back within the day if needed.

Cross-post from the Voice Acting forum:

Bumping this again.  The roles are varied enough that I could make use of any voice type.  For those who don't know what TBP is like in-game I posted some videos below.

Well, I used to be around here as CaptJosh. I was supposed to voice Jimmy "Geezer" Brightman for Skullar's EA Civil War campaign, but he dropped out for a while, then I dropped out for a couple years. Since I've been back, I've looked around, but haven't seen anything about that campaign. Is it still being made? Or has it gone vapor?
