Can anyone help me out here? Some bad results and no cutscenes, I know i'm being vague but I really am confused. It'd be really appreciated

I'm bad at interpreting those things. Tell me, what exactly are those "bad results" you're getting? And as for the cutscenes, do remember to select OpenGL instead of Direct3D from the Launcher. That is, if you have them but they refuse to play.

ok so I've just recently updated my graphics drivers, neither OpenGL or Open3D will play the cutscenes. I have the cutscenes in .mve format in the freespace directory. However i'm embarassed to say that my install of FSO was fairly out of date, BEWARE of torrents and their out-of-dateness!!!

Hmm. mves should play if they are in the \freespace2\ folder and if you're using the FSO engine. Are you sure that you have working .mves? At least the HotU download has mves that are actually insignificantly small and won't therefore play. Could you give a list/screenshot of what your \freespace2\ folder contains? It is highly possible to fix your current installation with Turey's Installer without redownloading everything.

Run the FSO Installer in my sig. It will update all out-of-date and missing files, which you have a lot of.

I've already started re-downloading everything, not having the cutscenes playing was a real anti climax, I didn't even know that the campaign had ended! Thanks for all the help, I'll post back if everything works

Grand, so everything worked amazingly. One small problem I'm having though is some of the ships in game have some parts of them missing or see-through and some asteroids are partly see-through. This only occurs when i'm running OpenGl and not in Direct3D

Tick the jpg/tga box under graphics on your launcher, that should sort it out! Although I thought that was defaulted on newer builds. What build are you using?

and some asteroids are partly see-through.
Only partially? They should be completely invisible. But indeed, if you're running the 3.6.9 build, you'll need to enable jpg/tga textures. Makes shooting asteroids down, oh, so much easier.

Yeah, I get the invisteroids as well.

I only got them for the Protect Bosch mission

Actually, you also got them in Into the Maelstrom.

Did you happen to see any asteroids there?

Yes - in the mission where you protect the iceni  :rolleyes:

I laugh at that inconsistency.

Note that one cannot see asteroids in missions that have asteroids unless jpg/tga textures are enabled. Missions with asteroids include Rebels and Renegades (or the protect Bosch/Iceni mission) and Into the Maelstrom. One cannot see the asteroids in these missions unless jpg/tga textures are enabled. Or one plays in Direct3D. Or retail.

Trust me.

Ok the build is 3_6_9 and I already had jpg/tga textures enabled, the problem occurs more so when i'm playing FSPort  :confused:

Is the Port's mod.ini referencing the correct mediavp folder?

If he is only using the Port as a mod and not the MediaVPs, I'd assume the asteroids work fine, since the retail textures are being used. I think.

Eh this is how the mod.ini file reads:

[launcher]
infotext     = FreeSpace 1, now ported to run on the FreeSpace 2 engine.;
website      = http://fsport.hard-light.net/;
forum        = http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/board,39.0.html;

[multimod]
primarylist  = ;
secondrylist = ,mediavps;

[settings]

Any ideas?

And your MediaVPs folder is called mediavps?

It is indeed. Look, not to worry about it,  it's only a minor thing.

I can't sleep at night if I know that some specific person is having problems with FreeSpace. j/k

If only parts of the asteroids are missing, it would possibly mean that certain textures are missing. Which, in turn, would imply that your MediaVPs could be corrupt or missing data. Redownloading them might hlep. Or not.

There is actually an issue in BtRL that can cause half visible asteroids. Take a look at this thread (http://www.game-warden.com/forum/showthread.php?t=6270).
