Title: Dark Horizon - The new Freespace?
Post by: Hazaanko on July 15, 2008, 03:16:43 pm
http://www.gametrailers.com/player/36397.html

This looks like it has heavy influences from both Homeworld and Freespace.

And it looks good.

Maybe it was just the horrible player, but that looked incredibly boring.

*Looks at the comments for the video*
No wonder space sims have died.

Anyways, I liked what I saw. Sure, the gameplay footage wasn`t amazingly action packed, but I`ll wait for more videos before passing too much judgement.

Didn't look bad. But somehow I'd rather say "Colony Wars -ish" instead of "FreeSpace-ish". Not commenting on the Homeworld part since I've never played any of them. *realizes just how embarassing that sounded and goes to sit in the corner*

I dunno, the last Akella space sim turned out to be crap. This one looks pretty similar.

the "map" preview is just like in homeworld

the game looks nice, but I didnt saw any cap ship action! I want to see what they have for that too

I liked the explosion physics.. Hard to say much more at this point.

I wonder if they have beams...

I could get used to the game. Its HUD is similar to FS2's HUD setup. And it looks like you can customize your ship.

Hey guys,

never thought I would post back here, but looks like my account is still alive hehe

If there are still some people who were on the [V] forums, I was Alpha Leader for those who remember me.

Anyway I was browsing the topics here because I saw the Dark Horizon trailer and it reminded me of FS. The HUD is quite similar to the FS one, the music also seems to be the same kind as in FS. Maybe it's just me, but I'm pretty sure there is some FS in there. Hopefully, some [V] guys who worked on FS. I did not take a look deeper at the game so I don't know what the story is, but so far, it seems to be good.

...man FS was good...

That just screamed "Freelancer" more than FS2/HW/anything else.

It looked good, but I guess I'll wait until more comes out.

There's a really awesome sense of scale going on in that trailer.

Hard to say whether the gameplay holds up, though. The dogfighting in Tarr Chronicles had some issues and the trailer doesn't really indicate whether this has the same problems.

It's the sequel to Tarr Chronicles, which wasn't great. Primary flaw was the gameplay (story and look were good).
And from the Trailer, it's obvious that the gameplay hasn't changed.

Trust Vidmaster, he plays and played EVERY goddamn space shooter out there (yes, even StarTrek Shattered Universe, which was crap)

The game feels slow and plodding in that video. It reminds me of X3: Reunion (ew).

*jaw drops and starts dreulling* to play this game against freespace and compare, would be fascinating.

I see freespace (B5 mod, to be exact) and homeworld. Looks like a very very interesting combination. Definately getting it

I saw exactly 0 beam weapons in the trailer. Ergo, the game will suck. :p

It actually looks pretty interesting. Should be worth a decent look.

I probably should take issue with the name of the game...

No beams, no capital ship scale, no competition so far.

bias towards a game no one outside beta testers circles has played yet. how can you know all that stuff? :D

I'm referring to the trailer, thanks -- note the 'so far'.

The developer's history suggests to me it won't be matching up to the Freespace legacy.

ahh well the 'so far', my bad.

I-War (1 & Defiance) beats Tarr.

I gave up on I war when I realized that the game really was as slow paced as it seemed at first.

The trailer looks nice but where's the capital ships? They were just floating around not doing much of anything.

Just wait for the final game...to me it seems promising.

yeah, it's like that. Again, I played the FirstGame and this one looks exactly the same.

Well, if it's anything like Tarr Chronicles, it's not as good as FreeSpace. I played the Tarr Chronicles demo, it was kinky, but not as fun as FreeSpace. The Tarr Chronicles story had me interested, though I couldn't be bothered to get through all the crappy gameplay to find out (also worth noting I didn't find out the story through playing the game, but by reading the history entries).

well, I dont doubt it will be exactly like Tarr. Look at the trailer  :)
