Sorry the noob question (i'm new to FSO World) but i'd like to know whats the difference? When I finished the install it was set to 3.6.10....but in the forums it says to use 3.6.9
So whats the diference? Can I play with both?
-
They will both work, 3.6.10 is more recent and has features 3.6.9 lacks, such as normal mapping and shader support.
-
I use 3.6.10, with no problems (well, except it broke a mission I created for Dreamcatcher, but I was mis-using the sexp anyway, so...).
Personally, I find 3.6.10 much easier to work with, and it lacks the infamous Red Alert Bug that 3.6.9 was prone to.
-
Hang on, Dark Hunter, 3.6.9 has a Red Alert bug? Can you describe it?
-
And, :welcome:
-
The main difference between the two is that 3.6.9 is released while work on 3.6.10 is ongoing.
We know what the problems with 3.6.9 are. We've been using it a year and a half now and although there are bugs for the most part you can play everything with it with relatively few problems (The Red Alert bug being one of the few bigger issues).
3.6.10 however is in a state of constant change. Things that worked in one build may not work next week. For that reason a lot of people recommend using 3.6.9. Or at least picking a fairly stable 3.6.10 build and sticking with that.

I'm looking at your signature's last line, karajorma. ;)
However, I'm getting problems on 3.6.9 now. I'll post a thread in the Help & Support section once I'm done looking through all my unread replies.

Most likely the same thing you are having with PI right now.

I suppose I should change that now that we don't have separate HEAD and stable branches in CVS/SVN like we used to.....but I don't much want to. :p

So did they fix that annoyingness where bomber turrets only shoot at your target?
-
That feature isn't committed, IIRC.

I thought that's what the turret has been doing all the time.
-
In retail and SCP, a bomber turret will only target your target, which is in most cases in your cross hairs anyways, and thus negates the effectiveness. Wanderer (or someone) made some code that made it target independently, thus making it actually cover your back.
-
Wouldn't that decrease your survival rate? Whenever you hit something, it comes after you.
-
Not necessarily. When I shoot a fighter, most time it continues to paste my wingman.
-
Well, the AI does seem to suffer from target fixation. It must've been cloned off Manfred von Richthofen's brain after he suffered an injury. :drevil:
-
I was disappointed when I found out turrets were so worthless. Mutli-tracking would have made them at least slightly useful for shooting at fighters behind you when bombing something...
-
In my opinion, only the Ursa's turret is useful. :doubt:
-
Doesnt the seraphim have two turrets?
-
The Seraphim has 11 gunpoints, so I don't really care about how many turrets it has. :)
