Title: Star Wars: The Force Unleashed Demo
Post by: Darksider on August 22, 2008, 11:24:33 am
So, this is out for Xbox Live and PSN, has anyone else tried it yet?

The lock on system is worthless, but the combos you can cook up with force powers are freakin sweet.

It was pretty fun being able to grab a TIE Fighter from outside the freaking ship and smashing it into a hapless stormtrooper.

i hate this when this happens, they release it to only 2 useable os systems, and totally ignore systems like wii, pc and nintendo. but because this isnt gta 4 or halo, i doubt this will be ported.

how far is your range to grab objects? and is it possible to open the fighters hatch to suck a person into space?

The game will be available on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii, PlayStation Portable, Nintendo DS, second-generation N-Gage, iPhone, iPod Touch, and PlayStation 2.
I hope the game will be ported on PC if it is a good game and worth buying.

Watch the videos from http://www.lucasarts.com/games/theforceunleashed/
Should give you some insight about ranges and what you can do in the game.

Electronic Gaming Monthly states that the Force Unleashed is for every platform.

A search on Gamespot shows the same thing. IGN too. So I'd say is for all known platforms, save the PC.

According to their Website: PS2, PS3, PSP, Nintendo DS, Wii, and XBox 360

Having watched a video on their site detailing the consoles, the 360 and PS3 versions are being developed by the core studio, while the rest have been outsourced to another studio.  There's a video comparison on their website detailing the different features of each, the PS2 will have some extra story content, the PSP will have some classic duels from the movies, the Wii will use the Wiimote (Duh, Though from the video it still seems like no developer has really figured out how to use that thing like it was originally intended...) the DS will have some kind of touchscreen interface for force powers, and the 360 and PS3 versions will have great graphics (Note:  This is mutually exclusive, the Wii version still looks like the PS2 or PSP versions...)

One of them has the Vader/Skywalker duel on cloud city as a bonus fight.
Though, you know, in retrospect, that wasn't a very impressive battle, really.  Cripple versus a barely trained kid.

That's the PSP Version.

All in all I'm rather disappointed with the style they're giving force powers, as always.  It looks a bit more Dragonball Z than it does Star Wars.  I'd love to see a Star Wars game where the force is somewhat like in the movies: i.e. no extra glowy special effects.

It is being released on Wii. Also, um, if you've referenced the Wii, what is the Nintendo? The DS?

Halo has never been ported to another platform except for PC/Mac, so that's a bit of an odd example.

Maybe you should have read my post, no need to say something twice.  It's coming out on pretty much every system (except PC/Mac).

I know. But you can't deny the shiny effects look cool. I might get a 360 just to hurl a TiE at stormtroopers. I've heard there's a section Starkiller pulls a Star Destroyer in from space, Starkiller being the apprentice's supposed name.

Ah, Starkiller is his codename. His real name is Galen Marek. Interesting.

Realised that the link had major spoilers. Its on Wookiepedia if you really wanna read it.

You know, the Force Unleashed on the Wii has motion control for force powers ...... Plus each console version is different from the others in little ways.

How about re-reading the previous page? I and several others posted full list of supported platforms, those included Wii and DS. The only platform the game won't be available on is PC, but that doesn't mean there won't be a PC port if the game is a financial success on consoles. The game is for consoles, so there were no lies.

Wow, people need to read more than just their own posts and the ones immediately after.  Sometimes it seems like if you're not the first person to reply to a question your answer is ignored...  even if your answer is the correct one...

Welcome to the Internet.

That said, I enjoyed the demo and will probably pick this up on the 360 at some point, or at least rent it. Don't see a difference between that and the ps3 version, and the Wii version sounds like it might be fun, but less impressive graphically, maybe I will rent that at some point.

I like the sound of blasters and lightsabers, and the action was solid and relatively easy to get into. The demo was "fun" which is all I ever want from a game :)

I don't think so. No doubt TFL will be a financial success, but so were the rest of the Rogue Squadron games which weren't ported to the PC.

PC game industry is dying. Consoles are more profitable, it seems.

PLayed a bit on my bros 360. COmpletely linear with oh so mundane combat and the FOrce doesn't feel very "force"ful..

You're like the new Takashi! But without his occasional pangs of self-awareness!

I didn't actually enjoy the demo all that much. It kept reminding me of Jedi Outcast, which had almost all the same force powers (excepting the material-deformation physics and the Euphoria AI.) Yet Jedi Outcast was more satisfying and fun.

And the lightsaber combat wasn't as good, either.

disappointing  :sigh:

Felt like a broken Devil May Cry Clone (Camera sucks and there is neither a possibility to evade fire properly nor can you deflect Blaster Shots properly, although I think it's possible to upgrade that ability in the full game), lightsaber combat is totally unrewarding and weak (almost unnecessary), AI is stupid and the list goes on...

Will still buy the game (->story) but not now, maybe when it's down to 25 bucks.

I doubt that the full version has another camera or lightsaber system pal

you can judge by the gameplay videos that the demo was a pretty good indication how the game plays out.

This cartoon (http://www.crispygamer.com/comics/backward/2008-05-14.aspx) effectively killed any interest in this title as a PC gamer, because the first panel is TRUE.  That's probably the worst reasoning I've ever heard for not releasing a game on the PC.

wont be coming to PC. Believe me. Do you really think they bring it to every god-damn system out there (including DS ) but the PC, just to release it on PC later?

PC game industry is dying. Consoles are more profitable, it seems.

Rogue Squadron was released, Rogue Squadron 2 and 3 were only for the Gamecube, they didn't come out of the PS or XBox either.

A lot of console fans want to believe the PC gaming is dead, it isn't, it isn't even close to dead, in fact, including the MMO market, the PC Sector makes more money than any console.

Exactly like Rockstar did with GTA4 you mean?

RTS games also kinda belong on PC, at least for now. While Universe at War had an excellent RTS control scheme for console, it also had a small variety of units. Its difficult for RTSes to be played on consoles, at least at this point in time, simply due to their lack of a quick pointing device. Although my eye is on End War to see how their voice command scheme plays out.

I suppose one of the reasons I prefer concept of the Wii over other consoles is the fact that, whilst a gamepad is no match for a mouse, the Wii controller at least gives that kind of level of 'freedom' in your motion.

Yea. If the Wii's hardware was more powerful, it might be a legit 3rd gen RTS contender.

yeah, GTA4 is on every system sure

There is a huge difference between:
GTA4: PlayStation 3, Xbox 360
SW-FU: PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii, PlayStation Portable, Nintendo DS, second-generation N-Gage, iPhone, mobile phone, and PlayStation 2  :blah:

It's also listed for other consoles, and the PC, that's the entire point. Just because LucasArts don't have an identical release method doesn't mean that it is not only common, it's almost expected for PC Releases to appear some time after a console release.

I don't need to bet, it's historically true, regardless of whether the Force Unleashed comes out for PC or not. If it doesn't, then it doesn't, that will not change the fact that PC versions come out after the console releases of console games. Makes sense really.

LucasArts may not release the game for PC, though I do suspect they will buckle to pressure in the end, since they have a 360 version, the conversion isn't nearly as difficult as from some other platforms, and I've never known LucasArts turn their nose up at a profit opportunity, but it's always a possibility, but that wasn't what I was saying.
