Title: drivers....nvidia
Post by: captain-custard on March 09, 2009, 04:10:21 pm
hi, i see quite a few posts from ppl saying they have problems with opengl  etc and older nvidia cards so here goes , you can find modded nvidia forceware drivers

( and yes they work on desktops as well as laptops, its just its near imposible to find a laptop driver)

have a look here

http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/ (http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/)

and also you might find as i did if you want to run on an older card all of the mediavps to have a true eyecandy experience your card slows down to a slide show sort of pace
you can over clock your gpu too help get this moving a little faster

try here they also have forceware drivers and riva tuner ... and links to ati drivers

http://www.guru3d.com/ (http://www.guru3d.com/)

hope this helps ppl get a more enjoyable 3.6.10 experience

heres my card...... have fun

I am curious about the performance of FSO with this card? Do you have choppiness with OpenGL?

rev_posix has a laptop with a mobile nVidia GPU and it seems to handle things just fine. But then, that was 3.6.9 exe and 3.6.8Z mediavps.....
/me hunts rev_posix down for a test session

Runs pretty well on my 7300 GS at work.  Is the desktop 7300 GS close to that laptop card?

id say that the laptop cards are a little more strangled on there settings but the chipset is probably the same , after that its the dedicated ram that changes mine was clocked300/300 and if you look at the 1st post you will see that ive managed to really over clock it so i believe it was an underclocked 350/600 at the end of the day i know that using the newest forceware driver and rivatune you can have everything on maximum and mediavps on a 1440x900 resolution and the game is very playable (never fallling below 30fps ( except in one or too tbp missions))

but i think the 7300 is coming to the end of its playable life with all of the improvements within the game .......
as it is open gl2.1  and shader apck  3 but the moment we move to open gl 3 and above then it is dead.... as it only suports 33% of the opengl 3 textures

Not likely to happen.

Or, if 3.x features are implemented, the current 2.0 will not be broken.

I might be too picky. I really don't mind 30 fps or 45, but what I don't like is intermittnet frame rate hitches.

I just bought a new Geforece 9800gt, I am getting the exact same performance as my old 6800GT. I must be doing something wrong. D3D run like silky butter. FSO is not a slideshow but it will chop really bad.

Basically my question is if the games runs consistently for anyone. Does FSO run as silky as D3D in Opengl Mode?

Thanks,

FSO has always run way better in OpenGL than in Direct3D on my computer. You should make sure that your drivers are up to date and that there are no bottleneck components on your system.

id seriously check your drivers and try disable vsync in the launcher i get better fps than you do ....

it would be good if you could download and post the results of this program so we can see if your missing anything.....

Current implimentations of GLView (3.12) has extremely erratic results.

Use with caution.

3.10, if any one want's, I can host up.

Is that why it's telling my the latest OpenGL is like 7.12.something or whatever?  And it thinks I have no shading language support at all?

Yes. I am rolling back to 3.10 until 3.13 or 3.14.

It may also not be liking the beta drivers, but I had the same results with the latest WHQL drivers too.

Yeah I'm not running the betas myself since my card isn't in the list, even though they showed up in the list for my card...

Huh?  Too scared?  No, I was playing BF1942, Motocross Madness 2, Trackmania, some WC3 games, some FS, some IL-2, some CS:S, all sorts of stuff.

Yeah just for you, I'll test them tonight or tomorrow night, depending on how long I spend shopping tonight with this hot girl who I'm probably stuck in the friends zone with.

Nope went shopping and then out drinking instead, sorry.  Looks like it'll have to be tonight.
