Title: Betting pool
Post by: Master_Drow on June 03, 2010, 08:58:12 pm
So I think we should start a betting pool about when Diaspora will be out.

For those of you who don't know how this works it is simple.
A) Pick a date
B) when Diaspora comes out if you have the day closest to the correct day then you win. (if it matters we will be using GMT to determine what day it is day)

The winner will get.... something.... I think i have a cookie somewhere that you can have...

Im going to guess December 12th 2010.

I've got no problem with this. But Diaspora and SCP members are only allowed to play if they bet something within the next week. I don't want them delaying the release just to win. :p

My bet is that Karajorma will win, no matter what.

We actually released already but a rift opened in the space time continuum and sucked the files into a distant place and time.  Something about the dialogue being insulting to one of the species and intergalactic war breaking out was heard before the rift closed.  We know those bablefish don't always translate correctly though.

If anything, that is surely an incentive for them to work faster? :P

My bet is, that R1 will be released as soon the developement ( creating content, beta testing, VA...) is done. :P

I Win!

I also bet, that this thread will be locked before it reaches the third page.
If i win, i'd like to be a moderator for one week, if i loose i agree to be banned for one week.

Anyone want to bet on that too?  :D

This actually works very well. Anyone who tries to claim we "most make estimate" gets accused of cheating! :D

I'm betting on something like May 2011, don't know why. It usually takes a long time for things to be released. Anyway, when you finish, do you guys mind if your new models get... listed in StarShips? ;)

December 21st,2012. The Mayans predicted it! And when its out it will mark the beginning of a new age(Age of Aquarius actually). Not the end of the world like most think.

I would be totally fine with that. It's actually the day of our last revolution, when we kicked the soviet occupation. Of course they come back within few weeks, and they were ten times more, than before, but that's not the point. That's is one annoying thing with the Russians. There are always more of them than you can defeat, whatever you do. We are lucky China is one and a half continent away. :D

You know you all shouldnt mess with China. They do own our entire country after all.

By the way what does China have to do with guessing release dates?

I was talking about Hungary. The so called "West", which never ever helped us in our 1500 year of existence, but at the first opportunity they cut away 2/3 of our country 90 years ago, do not really concern us.

I'm gonna go ahead and say December 21, 2012.

Its the end of the world according to the mayan calendar, but my guess is the mayans stopped there because once diaspora would be released nothing else will matter, the whole world will be playing the game all day and nothing significant will happen for the rest of human existence.

Oh, no. Now we will have to determine who has the right to that date the way all civilized societies do it: you two will be placed in a giant, cheap looking arena set, and you can beat each other to death with giant ridiculous looking sticks.

There are small differences between Duke Nuke Forever and Diaspora.

1. On the Diaspora team work people who actually care about the stuff they create.
2. The Diaspora team didn't play the "lets change the release date game" with the community.
3. There is no cash involved, they work of their free will and to the best of their abilities to complete the game - rumors about  dark rituals involving black magic to force the folks to work on the project are just that - rumors
4. In the unlikely case, that the game wont get released, the community will find them and beat them with sticks made of cherrywood, wrapped in papers with quotes of Derek Smart...and burn them on the stake...and eat their cats and/or  dogs... and steal their cars :P

wrong. i`ve got the strong suspicion, that kara owns voodoo puppets of everyone involved. nothing else could explain fubars workaholic behaviour.
edit: but i heard the following rumors: sitting outside and drinking negates the success of dark rituals.

I see your cherry stick and raise you a longsword waster and bokken made of hickory; plus I practice Kendo and langswert in the Hans Talhoffer tradition.  You would be well advised to beat the tar out of the rest of the devs before you try me because rest assured you won't be beating up any after me  :drevil:

starslayer, did I mention too that I was good with swords, and wooden sticks or actually anything sharp and pointy....
not to mention I've been practising jiu jitsu for 5 years,

I do feel sorry for Angelus though, not knowing the awesome progress we've made (Laughing Out Loud)

in the mean time, I need to get that bastard sword I had in my hand the other day.... zombies werewolves or a mad community just don't sound that scary if I have such an excellent piece of steel in my hand

I call your kendo with Mugai Ryu and Naginata.  :)

Koryu polearm or Koryu swordsmenship versus what has become (thanks to McCarthur) a game of watered down tag that has lost most of it's teeth.  /tease

Some of my best friends study Kendo.  So I say this mainly in jest.  But I am a Naginata-ka.

As to the date:  2/2/11

Gambate!

Oh I totally appreciate Kendo is sword as a sport as opposed to sword the killing art.  That said its good for getting better at speed, timing, distance, etc. which is useful with the German Longsword which is completely a no frills killing system.  Actually our class is possibly going to do a Naginata segment later in the year.

lol SS.  At least we agree on that about Kendo.  And the German Long Sword for that matter.  There is some folks around me that do German (and I think some Italian long sword, but don't quote me on that).  So it has me wondering, where do you live roughly?
