The first test has concluded. Thanks to everyone who participated.
I have been working on some multiplayer missions for Blue Planet WIH and It's time to do some testing. Right now it's 4 dogfighting missions and one Coop. If anyone is interested in participating in the test, post a reply in this thread and we will try to arrange a time that works for everyone. Consider this a 'Sneak Peek' for a BP:WIH multiplayer mission pack that is going to be released... in due time.
One dogfight mission involves Karunas, that's right... Dogfighting Karunas
(http://i1178.photobucket.com/albums/x380/Brandon_Rehayem/KarunaDogfight.png)
Other missions feature fighters and weapons from the Blue Planet WIH modpack. So get ready for Uriels swooping and Vulcans blazing!
Once enough interested parties are available we will form a testing group and select a time that works for everyone, I will update this post with a list of interested players as they appear.
Interested Testers: (Test Concluded)

Eh. Most people don't use MVPs when playing multi for lag's sake. Do you really expect us to try multi on WiH ?
Aside from that, I'm up for testing, if you don't mind me making everyone else lag :p
-
Actually, if you guys are gonna play later in the night, this might be a good way to put my insomnia to good use. :P
-
Sounds interesting...
Don't know when I'll be free so I guess I'll just wait and see when everybody else is and if I can make it.
-

That's a good reason alone to have you as a tester. I don't know what to expect in terms of latency, but I'm sure it depends on how well each player runs the campaign without framerate issues. Different machines, even low end ones would provide useful information for the feasibility of this project.
-
I am interested in testing too !
I have a good framerate, and a good internet connection, but i'm behind a VPN, will it be an issue (high ping) ?
-
I guess we'll find out.
-
Barring the insane amount of ships in campaigns I run WiH pretty well. I've never played FS2 multiplayer before but dogfighting in Karunas has piqued my interest. I have lots of free time, but time zone differences are a serious limitation. :blah:
-
I have not started up WiH yet (i cant beat AoA and i refuse to play the next part without finishing the previous)
however, i would be willing to test also

Where are you stuck?
-
Bet it's either Forced Entry or Universal Truth. :)
-
You could just watch my playthrough of that mish for tips :<
-
I can try, sure.
-
I had to reformate my my C drive so I gotta reinstall FSO and blue planet but if you still need people I could give it a go
-
i was stuck on the first mission as a vishnan, that has been rectified with my current playthrough.
i noticed one bug however, the mission where you escort the temeirere battlegroup can be completed even if you die, assuming you knock out the ravana's beam cannons(i got to close and got winged by an anti fighter beam)
cudos none the less,a thoroughly enjoyable romp and *gasp* possibly better than the retail campaign
now starting on wih, hopefully get to kill some gtva <insert vulgar term here>
i am most certainly up for testing some multiplayer maps
-
That's not a bug, that's a nightmare.
-
No. In the nightmare mission you try to save the Orestes from the Luficer.
I assume he's talking about Forced Entry, since that's the only mission were you need to escort the Temeraire (as opposed to protect it, while it sits still with disabled engines) with a Ravana present.

Are there specific links to file packs or whatever I need?

Are there specific links to file packs or whatever I need?
Good question:
All the multiplayer mission files will be distributed at the time of the test. In the mean time, just make sure you can run FSO multiplayer (with patch) and have all the required files to be able to run the BP:WIH campaign.
-
Barring any necessary changes I think it wouldn't hurt to get set up beforehand.
-
Alright, I'll get the PMs out
-
No adjusted tables or .VP's besides the stock BP:WiH either then?
-
Well, if I'm up at six in the morning on a Saturday, I'll come play with you guys, but be advised that that's not very often. :P
-
get your ass on irc dilmah
-

I'll join you in an effort to wake up at an unholy time...
-

For the time being that's correct. All multi needs is the vanilla mod. Later on down the road the BP team might release a patch to make WIH more compatable with multiplayer.
-
Sounds interesting. Can I join?
-
Finally, I may have found a good internet connection for friday !
-
Possible problem: I don't actually have the final public release of WiH, instead I'm using the SVN beta version. Would this cause major problems?
-
Just re-DL the public version why don't ya.
-
I might also be interested, but i never played fs on multi and i also have a bd PC.
-
Snail:
Yes, please please have the release version of Blue Planet: WIH or it could cause major unforeseen issues.
http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=70745.0
Make sure you have all the other required downloads as well, including the latest version of BP:AoA.
It's a fair amount of work to install, but it will spare us from some major problems on test day.
-
I'm interested in helping out too.
-
meh in that case I'll pass
-
No problem Snail, thanks for your interest in the project.
Just to be absolutely clear, all prospective testers need to have the following...
1) Freespace Open complete with the retail files, the launcher, and FSO inf.exe version 3.6.12r.
See the FSO support forum http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?board=151.0 if you are unsure about this.
3.6.12r is here http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=70692.0
2) The release version of Blue Planet: War in Heaven complete with all the other necessary downloads that it requires (Specifics in thread). http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=70745.0
3) A working registered pilot in Freespace Open multiplayer. http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=63609.0 You need not do step #2(Unless you want to host games).
4) Download the multiplayer mission pack distributed via PM. Place it in your installed freespace2/blueplanet2/data/missions folder. If such a directory does not exist, create one and the program should find it.
You need these 4 things to participate in the test, and it is likely you will need at least these things to be able to play the released version of the multiplayer mission pack in the future. Please have these things when we test so we can jump right in.
-
It seems that I have a problem with Mediafire, I can't download the files.
-
That's really strange. The link works for me. Anyone else experience a broken link?
Are you used to mediafire? Just click that link in the orange box that says "click here to start download"
-
I havent received the mission link yet.
-
PM sent
-
So, we're trying to test WiH in multiplayer? Count this n00b in.
-
Who's planning to host? And what are you looking for in a host?
Edit: oh and, do we use Inferno builds or not?
-
Is launcher 5.5f ok?
-

War in Heaven is a Mod that only works properly with inferno builds.
I think launcher 5.5g would be better.
BTW, the link worked.

got this during the session:
ERANGE: String error. Please Report.
Trying to put into 32 byte buffer:

gonna open up a report thing AAR soon
-
Simply perfect. Perhaps, I hate the Ainsarii and Reedemers now, but it was hell of fun. Thanks that I could enjoy that crazy, unbalanced, tuttasized battle^^
BTW: What about something like a mission where you fight as a Deimos-Corvette against Karunas and/or Narayanas?
-
omg, the redeemer
ptsd forever
-
Dear god, I hope it will be rebalanced. Or better, scratch that uber-weapons for MP.
Like the vishnans say: Balance will be restored.

Here's a few screenshots from today's multiplayer test, maybe next time i'll take more:

Here's a few screenshots from today's multiplayer test, maybe next time i'll take more:
Holy ****, i didn't have a tactical interface in the Karuna mission! (and couldnt assign turret targets - Has that bug been fixed by now? In the Blade itself?)
EDIT: Whats that in your screen? Are you flying an Uriel with tactical interface? Edit2: Forget about it. Just read the Answer here: http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=73966.msg1461500#msg1461500
-
I believe it is fixed by build 6832.
-
So there's no official patch?
-
Er, if you're referring to the targeting issue, as it was a codeside issue and not a Blue Planet issue (I believe) I don't think any official patch was needed.
-
...Whats that in your screen? Are you flying an Uriel with tactical interface?
Hades hot converted the mission 'The blade itself' to be a Coop where one player flys the frigate Katana and all the rest fly escort. The information on the hud is just on display and does nothing for the Uriel. It's left over from the conversion. A release version would not have that extra display.
