Title: A question I've had for a very long time...

What is the ship pictured on the original Descent: Freespace CD envelope packaging?

I remember that when one unfolds the CD case, it ends up being a very big ship indeed.  At first I thought it was the Lucifer, but it just isn't the right shape.  Anyone care to enlighten me?  Is it even a real FS ship?

it looks alien, whereas the ingame Typhon is was a tilemapped boring turd

the shape is definitely the typhon though

on a related note the HTL typhon is leet

It's a misnomer of sorts. It means 'hardware transform and lighting', which was the addition to the SCP that enabled high-polygon models. Basically it means high-polygon, high detail.

Yeah, it's kind of become a synonym for "new hi-poly model" around these parts.

I opened my CD sleeve, and I can confirm that it's the Typhon.

Yeah, it indeed looks Shivan, the hull's surface looks like it were from a Demon or Ravana.

IIRC, originally the Zods were going to be the big bad aliens until they decided to make it more interesting with Shivans... :headz:  Headz, anyone?  That might just be the idea I got though, not sure if it was mentioned anywhere important.

I don't think that was the case at all. At least, I haven't seen even the smallest hint implying this.
