Title: BP Multi Discussion
Post by: bigchunk1 on May 31, 2011, 01:01:34 am
General Discussion thread for Blue Planet Multiplayer. Something happen in a game? Think something awesome should be added to the project? General feedback? This is the place.

Does "congrats on getting your own board :D" count as general feedback?

Here's a screenshot of Sara's SOC Nyx. It's a more maneuverable, slightly faster version of the GTF Nyx, but it is a little softer and has lower weapon energy.

I love that ship. If I ever decide not pilot a light fighter, I'm using the SOC Nyx. I think the Atalanta, Aurora, and Perseus should get those nice colors too. :)

I really really really like that Nyx.  A lot.

It's a tev ship. The more targets in the sky for us buntu aces the better. So I like too ;p

The BP:AoA mission 'Universal Truth' has been playtested and uploaded to the SVN. Full voice acting is a nice side effect of converting AoA missions.

Edit: Forgot to mention that the original version of 'Universal Truth' did not have a debriefing because it cut directly to the next mission in the campaign. The multiplayer conversion needs a debriefing for the following 3 eventualities.

1. The team is successful and enough of the fleet makes it to the node.
2. The team is destroyed and has no more respawns
3. The host jumps the team prematurely (AWOL debrief)
Note: fleet casualty debriefs are already accounted for.

If anyone wants to write any of these debriefings, I'll put them in the converted mission. Right now, I have some silly placeholders until something comes along.

Am I the only one who thinks the SOC Nyx would be awesome with a set of shark's teeth on the nose?

Some of the action from Shade's game yesterday. Fighters from 2nd fleet taking out that bad bad corvette in SMR.

Had a multiplayer test not too long ago... it was pretty fun.

Well its about time, but it is finaly done!  TvTvT appears to be fully functional.

For those who haven't been keeping up, TvTvT is just that: a 3-team free for all where each team of 4 is pitted against 8 other players.

To show Scale

Would anyone be interested in seeing the Custos in the BP modpack? It is not currently in any of the missions, but it has potential uses. It would make a nice target in the capship coop mission Corvette Strike, or a nice addition to Lester's convoy assault mission 'Preemptive Measures'. Another nice thing is people can play around with it in the 'extended modpack' that bp multi is somewhat becoming.

I have it all ready to commit... Just a matter of if we want it in there or not.

the only concern i have it the file limits. if this doesnt put us past the limit or the limit no longer exists, then it would be one more awesome addition. should it be included in WiH R2, we may want to remove it when we adopt those files.

Ok the custos has been added to the SVN. Please ensure everyone is updated or you will experince unintended results. bp2-mc02 "Corvette Strike" has been updated to include the Custos, it is also a more difficult mission. Enjoy.

Zalem's idea has been made into a mission 'WIH Capture the Narayana'. It has been uploaded to the SVN. In this TvT mission (Feds vs Tevs) you 'capture' a Narayana class vessel by scanning it, then defend it from being retaken by the opposing force. This mission has not been tested yet and thus has a BETA label on its name.

Thanks a lot Chunky, I owe you one. I will test this as soon as possible. This will be lovely.

In related news, a finished Tev gauntlet just got uploaded. The biggest PITA mission of them all is now fully functional!

Has anyone tested Lester's CTF TvT mission yet? I'm interested in seeing if it works.

Zalem and me tested, and already reported some issues to Lester on IRC. Don't remember the list, but he knows, and I can dig up my log if you wish.

There were a couple of issues. Apparently, Zalem couldn't grab the flag after he shot Matth down, which should be perfectly possible according to sexp logic, and the scoreboard mixed up the scores for the teams, which doesn't make any sense either.

MatthTheGeek just added something pretty interesting to the SVN. A Post meridian TvT with players taking the sides of both the UEF and the GVTA in that mission. You can also play as capital ships, and what's more, the karunas have firable primary weapons e.g. their gauss cannons and mass drivers respond to trigger based fire and can be aimed at targets. Since it is a coop mission, you can run it by yourself, pick a Karuna and try it out! Just make sure you assign yourself to the capital ship wing before clicking lock.

Anyone up for a few games this weekend? I've got more freetime this weekend than most.

I'd play if I had a connection that actually works. I could try, though.

Matth, your PM TvT is quite entertaining! Me and several others played it twice, with GTVA winning twice. Seems like the GTVA have the edge, with more AI assets and a beefier objective to protect. Great fun though, I've been wanting to play a WIH mission as a Tev for awhile.

I made several versions of the UEF logo that players can use as multiplayer pilot pics and squad logos. There are 5 versions of the logo in here converted from the one made by Nighteyes.
http://www.mediafire.com/?1bpnncc5m5ebbd5

To use the logos: download and extract this .zip archive in your root freespace2 directory.

Once you have done that, start the game in multiplayer mode, go into the barracks and select the type of uef logo you want!

If you want to manually install the individual files, make sure you place them in the correct folder.
Pilot pics go in freespace2/data/players/images
Squad logos go into freespace2/data/players/squads

If people are interested in this sort of thing, I can make/convert more BP themed pilot pics and squad logos.

Might want to base it on this one (http://img163.imageshack.us/img163/2815/uefeagle4.png) instead. Fancier.

Care to bake me one from this (http://img834.imageshack.us/img834/3034/hwbplogo2.png) ?
