Title: PCS2 builds
Post by: The E on July 25, 2011, 03:23:00 pm
Here's a complete package of all the files required for PCS2. Included is the February 19th build, as well as the build featuring the new BSP creation code (pcs2_bsp.exe).

https://googledrive.com/host/0B_qLK7VGhoIydUY1RFlzOVNMdGc/pcs2.7z

http://www.mediafire.com/file/h2jiiqbefdfzuoe/pcs2.7z

If you receive the error

Code: [Select]
The code execution cannot proceed because MSVCR120.dll was not found. Reinstalling the program may fix this problem
Then you are missing this:
MSVC 2013 Redistributable Package (runtime libraries) (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=40784)

Be advised you need the 32bit (x86) version.

UPDATE April 5th, 2012
Builds updated to April 1st version (which despite the date is NOT a joke!)

UPDATE July 13th, 2013
Builds updated to the July 2nd version.

UPDATE October 10th, 2015
Updated to Spicious' latest

UPDATE February 10, 2017
Old googledrive link is dead; updated to the link posted by tomimaki

Just to clarify, the bsp build is the one that fixes the many poly-holes which started appearing on peoples models, right?

Correct.

Might I suggest that instead of naming every package of PCS2 - PCS2.7zip... we add a ver. date or "bsp"
to the title.  Granted I don't update super often, but in my downloads folder alone I see no less than four PCS2.7zip "copies"
with no distinguishing features other than the date I downloaded them.

New folks love to download things and get lost after all.

Thanks for the file though.

What are the different "pcs2 (2).exe, pcs2 (3).exe, etc"?  Are they different forks of pcs2?

The download package has been updated to include the January 21st builds.

Do the Transformation features work with the latest build ? I grab the exe from the 21 January but when try to reduce a ship. POF CS2 crashed. Or perhaps it's a models issue ? I was using Vengence's HECv Typhoon.

Is this build the one with Collada support? I've been trying to save a model out as .dae (the option is there on the 'Save As Type' drop down) but it's been saving it as a POF instead. Wanted to double check it it wasn't something n00bish i'd done wrong before flagging it as a bug (it's my first time using PCS2 properly).

I DLed the file and extracted directly into my C:/program files/folder, if that info affects anything.

be careful of the extension that is on the end of the filename to save.

be careful of the extension that is on the end of the filename to save.

Aha; it seems selecting the extension doesen't work, but typing it in manually does. Cheers for the help guys (and sorry for late reply btw, had to go to work).

Downloaded the Build (April2012), now PCS2 seems to be unable to load cob-files. Are there dllls or something missing? Does anyone has the problem too?
Title: Re: PCS2 builds
Post by: FreeSpaceFreak on May 31, 2012, 01:23:22 pm
AFAIK, nobody has used .cob since a while now. If it's not been deprecated yet in PCS2, it's definitely not being actively tested.
Collada .dae is the standard now, as it's common to all self-respecting 3D programs.
Title: Re: PCS2 builds
Post by: Droid803 on May 31, 2012, 01:27:45 pm
I can still see some merit in supporting COB, if only to rescue things from old model dumps, but at this point it'd probably be better just to re-model them anew anyway. Stuff made back in the day were pretty damn bad in terms of optimization, as nobody really knew what they were doing and such.

I know I still use cob export for HWBP. Just dropping my two cents here.
Title: Re: PCS2 builds
Post by: Droid803 on June 01, 2012, 11:59:38 am
Why.
The cob format itself sux.

Why.
The cob format itself sux.
he doesnt know to work in any 3D app. in short. dont try to convert him to something else, because his method worked for 95% of HWBP assets. sans smoothing however.
Title: Re: PCS2 builds
Post by: MatthTheGeek on June 01, 2012, 04:51:32 pm
Between no smoothing and borked smoothing + borked lighting ingame, I choose no smoothing.

grab a model from either FSMods or the Mvps and try loading that.
If that doesn't work, dl the build from the first post of this thread again.

Just downloaded and unzipped on Windows 7... and all of the boxes are too small, it's impossible to read e.g. the normal of a dockpoint. I only see the top few pixels of the numbers. Is this a known issue, is there a solution?

I've also got a problem with certain new models (can't pinpoint a date). The Erebus from BP and the new FoTG ships (including Home One and E-Wing) crash PCS2. Strangely enough, old models work. It's not a memory issue because the E-Wing is quite light. Using current builds, fresh install, Windows 7.

Every time I opened PCS 2.1 Alpha, I'm getting the same error message on startup: "file ", line 47: '=' expected." Is it resolved? Or not? Is it due to my system?

The Wiki pages on PCS2 and Collada (http://www.hard-light.net/wiki/index.php/Collada_Importer) are not only out of date, the links are broken. Can we have a more reliable repository for these builds, say FreeSpaceMods.net?

Thanks.

The link in the first post should be the most up-to-date version of PCS2; do you have a model it's not working with?

I usually work with the version  PCS 2.1 Alpha Release Jan 4 , 2014 without problems.

As I read this version resolve some problems ( that i never found )... , this is why i ask ...
Title: Re: PCS2 builds
Post by: AdmiralRalwood on November 27, 2015, 01:40:08 am
Well, if you don't use this version, you won't be able to (successfully) open models made with it (some of the new models from the recent BP rerelease, for instance), due to there having been a POF version bump. The reverse is not true (models made with the 2014 executable will still be openable with this version).

I worry about not being able to open some models in the future.

Older versions can't open models made with newer versions. Newer versions can still open models made with older versions. That was what I said. I will go further and say that there is no reason I know of not to just use the newest version, always.

It is understood, but I wanted to say that maybe in the future some versions can cause problems until they fixed.

And maybe it's better to keep some versions instead of delete them.

Anyway, i will work with the new one, thanks and sorry for my stupid confusion  :P

Amazing. I was just about to post and ask if anyone had fixes to the breathtakingly massive list of problems I am having with the model viewers. Downloaded this, and it works flawlessly. You are my hero!

 :D

This seems like it belongs in a sticky. Or at least a link on the wiki, so that newcomers can find the working model viewer.

Older version can cover models that newer version can't (conversion process finishes and I get nothing).
Hence why I use newest + older version

Sorry to bump this topic but a recent experience discussed in this topic:

https://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=95836.new#new

Has revealed that if you receive the error

Code: [Select]
The code execution cannot proceed because MSVCR120.dll was not found. Reinstalling the program may fix this problem
Then you are missing this:
MSVC 2013 Redistributable Package (runtime libraries) (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=40784)

Be advised you need the 32bit (x86) version.

It would be nice if this requirement was added to the first post so others aren't left going mad looking for a fix like I did  :D
