Hey guys,
so yes, I've done the UNTHINKABLE. I've taken a Planetside 2 squadron and turned it into a Planetside 2 outfit which is over 100 men strong!
We have a website / forum here:- http://107thravens.enjin.com/ (Very bare bones I know, but it's still new and being worked on)
We also have a 35-man teamspeak 3 server hosted by Enjin.
If you play Planetside 2, or want to get into it and are thinking of joining an outfit, we're a TR Briggs based outfit, and do a lot of Air Superiority and QRF attack force stuff. (Specialising in fast, heavy attacks, much like the Ravens did during the FS2 campaign)

I used to fly an ESF a lot when I played, but I really don't want to go through the massive timesink of certing up again.

Yup. The game is very financially unfriendly. Their "deals" are horrible and their subscription expensive for what little they give you. You have to unloakc the same items again and again (like 3 class use the same gun? You have to unlock it for each class separately. andalos EVERY attachment for every gun. Even tough they all use the same.) Enjoy unlocking the same reflex sight 100 times.
At least with WoT you can get a premium tank that gives you a great moeny earner FOREVER (long after the premium expires) and once you unlock a gun, ti's unlocked for every tank.
Not to mention that 7cash is a total ripoff. 5 euros to unlock a single gun?
Unless they do a 4X deal for Christmas, do not even consider it.

isn't it free? or are you saying it's terrible if you don't pay for the unlocks? i have it installed, but i never got around to trying to run it again after i registered my player and it wouldn't launch. i don't even remember the login now.

It is free.
But to unlock all the goodies you need to grind, grin, grind.
And some stuff can only be had trough 7 cash.

the last (and only actually) free to play i played was clearly built on a "pay to win" scheme, but for the most part was populated with such morons that it was still pretty easy to be good without buying anything. is this similar, or is it not even worth playing casually?

All starting equipment is decent, and if you're good, you can stand against veterans. The only things that REQUIRE unlocking are, in my opinion, sights. And some things that should be permanently available like being able to deploy the bus thing so dudes can spawn from it (unless they changed that).

I've got over 120 outfit members and they're all quite active. We also have an established teamspeak and website, so we're doing quite well.

And some things that should be permanently available like being able to deploy the bus thing so dudes can spawn from it (unless they changed that).
AMS is only .. what, 50 certs?
You get 100 when you complete basic training, so you can get a Sunderer with AMS and sigts for your firle immediately.
PROTIP: get the first veichle turret/upgrades.
At only 1 cert each, the 1.25X turret zoom and magazie expansion is a must-have.
TIPS:
- get a sundy and deploy it a hot zone, preferably out of sight. Defend it.
- play medic and heal/revive. Revive grenade is great in BioLab fights. The more corpses, the more XP!
- play engineer. Ammo packs + repair everything you can.
- everybody hates a infiltrator with a SMG. EVERYONE. Your enemy most of all. Hack all enemy terminals and turrets before the main invasion force arrives for easy pickin's.
- light asaults have jetpacks for a reason. You are a flanker. Sneak, strike from the skies/roofs/trees. Get C4 to deal with tanks/sunderers/maxes
- you might have a overshield, but you're not that though. Use cover and get a foregrip for you MG, because you're innacurate as hell.

Ok, seriously now.
Joining usually requires to talk to a outfit officer so he can invite you.
AFAIK, you and the oficer MUST be on-line and logged into the game at the same time. Then you link your name ot the outfit teamspeak channel and off you go.

Hmmm this sounds like fun. I've always wanted to participate in large-scale vehicle actions (tank or aircraft, doesn't matter), haven't had the time or the connections to do so.
Time will soon be free.

Honestly not really all that bad of a thing
Grinding in that game isn't all that bad. It took me a great deal of time to get my Vanu fighter up to where I wanted it to be, but it was worth it
Focus on one class and on one thing. That way it won't seem as bad as you progress
