Hi there!
After wasting more than 5 hours on google, this forum is my last option now.
I've also found related posts in this forum, but they are outdated or not useful (to me)...
I'm a german who can't find his original ENGLISH version of Freespace 2 anymore.
All I've got is a german version (it's from Gamestar 01/2005), that I have never played before - and I know now why.
I would really like to have english soundfiles (briefings, ingame voices, textfiles, etc.) back, because it's a lot more immersive.
I'm currently using FS2 open 3.7.0, wxLauncher 0.9.4 beta, MediaVPs 3.6.12.
It's almost impossible to find the english soundfiles on the net (or underground...)
So if anyone could help me solve this problem in an easy way, I would be very glad and thankful.
Greetings

If you're willing to shell out, you can buy a DRM-free copy of the game on GoodOldGames for something like $10 American. Otherwise, if someone tells me exactly what files need to be replaced I can upload them for you.
-
Well, as long as I can avoid buying it a third time, I would appreciate just to get those files instead. :)
I don't know which files are involved in that process, but hopefully someone else does.
Currently I'm not in the mood to start another google-journey. But I will do so tomorrow morning, if necessary.
Thanks in advance General Battuta.

isn't it Stu.vp, Warble.vp, Tango1.vp and tango2.vp? that are needed for the voice files?
-
Should be just stu_fs2.vp for voices.
Warble is music and Tango is anims.
-
Just before somebody uploads more than needed:
All I need is:
english briefing soundfiles
english ingame voices
english briefing texts
Not necessarily HUD text
No cinematics
Hopefully I didn't forget something...

I believe there are differences in the strings table too.
-
Oh yeah, you'd probably be correct. Though, as I understand it.. (probably wrong) the game is always "english" and just uses tstrings.tbl to pull up the other language stuff. So wouldn't that mean he could install English Stu, select English as the language and be all set?
-
I think you'll also need the English font files which are in sparky_fs2.vp. If you use the German font files with the language set to English you'll probably have "German characters" appear in various parts of the HUD / interface (i.e. copyright symbol, weapon select triangle, radar blip, wingman dots, plus others)
-
who was running the project to find the difference between english and none english versions cause they probably know (my search fu is badly broken this morning)
-
IIRC it was Yarn.

Sorry, but I'm not of very much use here. I can't find anything useful but more questions...
Last time I have played FS2 was over a decade ago, but if I remember correctly, there was voice-acting in command briefings, mission briefings and debriefings. With my german version, I have only command briefing voices. Is that a bug? Did Gamestar mess something up while converting the 3 CDs to 1 DVD? Or did Volition just never translate mission briefings & debriefings?
-
They never voice acted em afaik
-
The_E just tell me what to upload to make a German version into a US version and I'll do it.
-
Well guys, never mind - I have officially given up now.
I couldn't find, nor could somebody tell me anything useful in other forums, so I bought it now on GOG.
But thank you all very much for trying!
If anyone finds this thread in a couple of years and knows a solution, please let the world know, too.
Greetings & Adios
