Title: CHAPTER MASTER
Post by: TrashMan on May 24, 2015, 04:49:48 am
I never knew this fan-made game existed, but it exactly what it sez on the tin.

You guide your chapter to glory or ruin.

It's a novel-writing game?

Pretty interesting... though I happened to click the wrong button and dundundun, I engaged the systems defense fleet, turned renegade and the ]I[ purged my chapter...
Also It looks like you cannot take every chapter they offer... strange...

No, it's one of those grim games set in the grim darkness of the grim future.

Spoiler:
a chapter in the 40k universe is, like, an army of 1000 space marines or something. I used to play this game back when I hated myself

Considering I have no idea about the universe other than there are many different chapters and such. Took out some orks, wiped a planet but couldn't see a colonise option (if it exists), even though Imperial Colonists were coming to visit.

I don't mind it.

Yeah, you gotta pay attention. The game is still work-in-progress.

A few tips and tricks:

At the very start, load 1-2 tech marines, librarians and apothacaries to each of your strike cruisers.
don't forget to transfer vehicles, as all your vehicles start on your homeworld (unless you're a crusading chapter)

Then, pick 2-3 escorts and place 1 techmarine in each (optionally place 20 astartes too). Use these three escorts to scout and pick up STC fragments and scout ruins/artifacts.
to do either, you need to unload marines (for STC, only a techmarine can pick them up)them onto the planet.
ATM, the interface for that is ONLY in the chapter managment screen. NOTE: marines are listed under the company or "office" they serve, not the ship they're on. So unless you transfered them specifically to another company, all non-assigned apothacaries will be in the apothecarium, psykers in the librarium and tech-marines in the armorium "group".

Raiding is preferable to attacking.
You can't use armor while raiding, but since it's a surgical drop-pod strike, you'll face less enemies.
Attack only if you're really strong.

Also, the ]I[ will be a royal pain the butt.

Its a Warhammer 40k game...

In WH40k Lore an Adeptus Astartes Chaper is, if they are following the rules of the Codex Astartes to the letter (which outside of the dogmatic Ultramarines no one does), a largest possible fighting unit of loyalist Space Marines - nominally 1000 strong, but due to the fact that Astartes are constantly at war and recuiting process for new Astartes (with all the blood-sport tests, the it-s-not-training-unless-it-is-lethal-training and dangerous genetic modifications) almost no Codex-adherend Chapter is 1000 strong.
(There are non-Codex ahering Chapters, most notable the cram-all-viking-stereotypes-and-make-them-extra-drunk,-matcho-and-hpyocritical Space Wolves who exceed the 1000 Astartes threshhold by quite a bit)

The terminology is borrowed from the Crusader Orders of the Dark Ages, which in turn is just the militarisation of the organisation of catholic monatic orders- Order is the whole and a Chapter a regional organisation of varying size (mostly limited by the ammount of land the order possessed in the region in question)

... and call me when there is an interesting (= Chaos) version of this...

I want the Black Templars....
Between 5000 to 6000 Astartes spread out over several crusades. One has to wonder if they'll be spread in the sector or if they will arrive over the course of a campaign and so on.
But if they are in the sector... your typicall waaaagh shouldn't stand a chance :D

The Dark Angels? ... they are not called the "hidden legion" for nothing.
Yeah, sure, it's several chapters, but they stick together and all obey Grand Master Azrael.

And IIRC; the actual number of the Black Templars is anyones guess. They are constantly crusading and on the move all over the galaxy.

Trash, I'm actually a fanboy myself ;)
And since the newer codices doesn't say anything else, the fourth edition said that they number between 5000 to 6000 Astartes :D
But aren't the Dark Angels and their successors known as the Unforgiven rather than ...the hidden legion?^^

They're known as both actually...

Some more stuff. 100+ turns in and I discovered some more stuff.

- you can build things on dead worlds (asteroids):
a hidden base, a hidden armory (where you can store demonic artifacts and xeno tech so the ]I[ can't find it) and a hidden gene-seed vault (so you can create your own legion in secret)

- boarding works wonders. 50 marines will take out an ork battleship (designate marines as boarders in chapter Managment)

- change to my previous tip:
your exploration escort - load an apothacary in it too. Useful when exploring ruins

Durped around with it for a bit, purged a lot of orks and nids without suffering a single loss. Then chaos came at my homeworld with a fleet that was 50% larger than mine and killed me.
Welp

I usually keep my chapter in a single fleet... discovered enough STCs to actually produce my own dreadnoughts and tactical dreadnought armor... discovered a downed warship... but when between creating new equipment and pumping out escorts I finally had the required 10k requisition, my loyalty dropped beneath 0 and the game ended, because at this point the feature to change to penitent chapter is not yet included... dundundun.
Deamonic artifacts I usually gift to the inquisition to stay on their brightside, but it is so tempting to create a pocket realm by purging the local governor...
They should include a way to bribe the ]I[ with artifacts while creating a small empire, so you can get even more requisition...

Ladies and gentlemen.

I give you the most heavily defended planet in the universe:

Omg.

With that many Guardsmen, there isn't room left on the planet for anything to defend. Infinite guardsmen guarding guardsmen.

I'm more surprised that planet hasn't collapsed and become a universe-devouring black hole. So many Guardsmen.

I love how there are more Guardsmen on that planet than there are atoms in the universe.

That's the Imperial Guard for you.

"Drown the enemy in bodies" now gains a whole new dimension.
They will literally drown in the sea of guardsmen
