Title: XP to Win7
Post by: bujeezus on November 18, 2016, 11:31:59 am
I am wanting to transfer my XP install over to my Win7 machine. Can I just copy everything to the new drive and run the Freespaceopen installer or do I have to start with a fresh install of Freespace? GOG has not sent me my security code to log in so I can't redownload the game again (it's been 2 weeks of emailing every day so I've given up). I hoping since it's drm free that this shouldn't be a problem. I do wonder if going from XP (32 bit) to win7 (64 bit) might cause problemns. I want to get this running up on a 3 screen setup and Win7 is a piece of cake compared to XP. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I think you can pretty much just copy the entire folder to your Win7 machine. Plus installing OpenAL on the Win7 machine. If the path to the folder changes, the Launcher might nag about not finding the FSO executable on your first run, but other than that, I don't remember there being any major hindrances (I've had an FS2 installation on my external HDD for years).

A little follow up. Just copied and pasted the old folder to the new drive. Had to use wxLauncer but it ran great. The triple monitor was okay but had a lot of screen tearing so I just switched back to the ole 22" and it's been flawless. Thanks again.
