i loved mw4 mercs way back when it was new

On one hand, a singleplayer MW game sounds excellent.
On the other hand, PGI is making it.
-
So this is the 3rd MW game named "Mercenaries". Interesting...

On the other hand, PGI is making it.
Yep. After all they promised and failed to deliver in MWO, I'm skeptical that they can make a worthy successor to the MechWarrior series. I'd love PGI to prove my doubts wrong, but they don't have a good track record in that regard.
Also, after four or five years of "Wanna buy a mechpack (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f8EOpIFE6L8)," PGI announcing another product with a trailer that ends with, "Looks like we just got a pay raise," was pretty ****ing obnoxious.

Just the video ID, like this:

I am cautiously optimistic for this. MWO's basic gameplay has never been its weak point, and it's incredibly difficult for an AI to spontaneously find out how to break the game in their favor. :P
That said, they better fix that damn scale. Those buildings and 'Mechs were in scale with each other, but those people and tanks were half size, if that.

Single player MechWarrior action? Take my money!!
-
Bad, generic voice acting. Poor graphics (they just didn't wow me, everything seems overbright, and the way the cannon just stuck straight into the shoulder with no mechanical details looks...bad), chunky, simplistic gameplay (would really have liked to see the player get out of the mech)...just looks very underwhelming TBH.

Due to be released in 2018. At least it looks like it actually works, unlike some games in alpha I could care to name.
-
Trailer quality does not necessarily correlate to gameplay quality. PGI has a proven ability to generate hype, but let's not forget that they are historically a shovelware developer with a bad track record for delivering on promises, since acquiring an attractive IP.
-
I'm not exactly optimistic about it, but I'll wait until it's actually out. Given PGI's track record, though, I can see it suffering from lousy writing (assuming it's not a 100% freeroam sandbox game with no actual writing involved) and an atrocious DLC policy. Probably not moddable, either.
