Title: Eugen Systems goes to D-Day (Steel Division: Normandy 44)
Post by: StarSlayer on April 08, 2017, 10:58:16 am
Eugen Systems, who developers of the absolutely fantastic Wargame Series of RTS games(if this is news why haven't you played Red Dragon yet?) is shifting settings to the Second World War:

From some of the previews it looks like they've refined the deployment phases, moral and territory control mechanics but otherwise it looks pretty similar mechanically to the previous titles.

I read somewhere, that they want this to be a mix of wargame style of play and arcade.
So old players can still stomp, while new ones can get easier into the game.

Man its like pulling on a comfy boot, if you can Red Dragon you can Steel Division.

Couple things I've noted so far:

Okay Crocodile, you might think you are hot stuff against my Panzer III and Marder II, but lets see you bounce this:

All glory to the Flak 88.

Blessed be the M4A3E2 my strength, who teacheth Pak guns to bounce and my AFVs to advance.  Touch the hedgerows that they may smoke.

Seriously though advancing into towed AT guns sucks.

Here are the decks that I am fairly happy with:

US 3rd Armored:

91st Luftwaffles

12th SS Panzer:

I haven't played the 15th Scots Infantry enough to form an opinion and today's patch just added a US 2nd Infantry Deck and 17th SS Panzergrenadier deck

Currently I wonder if towed guns might need to be toned down a bit, maybe require a longer setup after movment and/or higher moral penalty in a sustained engagement.  I was fooling round against the AI and it spammed a bunch of AT guns and Bofors AA and it was a massive pain in the ass to deal with.  The higher caliber AT guns can also engage infantry with HE so tanks, infantry and Jabos have a tough time against all that firepower.  I basically need to dig them out with a lot of mortar and artillery fire which makes things kinda of static.

These babies are a lot of fun, vicious little 20mm auto-cannon carrier for 35 points that will shred any soft skin it finds and can even light up tanks if it gets a flank shot.
