Title: Release: Effects DB
Post by: Nightmare on July 30, 2018, 11:12:04 pm
As promised, here's the EffectsDB. This should contain pretty much every effect ever made by the HLP community since I started visiting a long time ago.

Background - Asteroids, Nebulas, Suns and other things. Everything 2D Background related that's not a planet.
http://www.mediafire.com/file/9zzvc0a4m3eua3q/CelestialBackground.7z

Background - Planets. ~770 2D Planets, both fictional and real.

Background - Full Nebulae. For nebula missions.
http://www.mediafire.com/file/omx2egai2t054jc/Full_Nebulae.7z

Background - Skyboxes. 200+ Skyboxes. NOTE: Like the ShipsDB this is intended to work as a single package, i.e. there might be cross-references (if only 1 part of a Skybox - mostly MilkyWayX or StarField - was altered I did not include the whole 6 sides again). It's also very big, unzips to ~7.6GB. Here's some word to the cross-references: https://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=94951.msg1871386#msg1871386

Background - 3D Planets. Textures for 3D planets. Not really useful (unless you have a campaign where a lot of planet are blown up on-screen), but here it is.

Effects - Explosions. Everything for typical Death Roll ship explosion (53), Particle Smoke (17) and other stuff.

Effects - Shockwaves. 2D and 3D shockwaves.

Effects - Weapons. Primary weapons effects. Laser bitmaps (both static and animated), glows, muzzle flashes (95) and particle spews.

Effects - Weapon Impacts. Primary and secondary weapon impacts.

Effects - Ship Engines. Sets of ship engines.
http://www.mediafire.com/file/18jvxd2p2s387r3/ShipEngines.7z

And this huge file comes from IronBeer! http://www.mediafire.com/?tqlxpcqa86bvgsu

Models - Weapons. 100+ new weapon models (mostly for secondaries). NOTE: use at your own risk - some weapons might require effects from the rest of the EffectsDB, which might be there under different names.

Thanks for all the work in putting these together!  I find this a great help.  Perhaps just split up the skyboxes??

Aye, thanks! :) Yeah I'd guess I have to split the skyboxes up, and the 3D enviroments as well... :sigh:

Did you try uploading the skybox archive on FSFiles? If that doesn't work either, either split it up or try another hoster.

I'll split the archives and upload them tommorow, I'd prefer MediaFire over SG for I can update the files myself in case something is wrong, but thanks for the advice. :)

Skyboxes added.

Maybe I'm confused -- there are some skybox folders such as Mars-Orbit with two bitmaps "MarsBack" and "MarsFarBack".  Are these meant to replace the back bitmap of another skybox?  Is there aspecific generic skybox they go with?

Yes, I'm sorry about the lack of documentation, but this has been built up over several years and I lost oversight a bit... :nervous:
The reason is that they replace only 1 part of another Skybox - in the case you mentioned MilkyWay5. Since they take a lot of space I didn't want to include the other parts again.
However, I left the remarks which part of the skybox is replaced (hopefully - I apparently haven't on those in the CelestailOrbits folder :banghead: ), for example MarsBack and MarsFarBack both replace MilkyWay5Back. Most, if not all of them are either related to MilkyWay5, or can be used with one from the generic StarField folder. Those in the "VasudaPrime"-folder are related to "System-Vasuda".

This is a really awesome release, thanks for putting this together, Nightmare. Did you ever get around to compiling the weapon effects?

Ahhhh.... Yep. :) I haven't forgotten about it; but I'm somewhat busy doing something for Scroll. I try to finish it next week.

A bit late but I added Beams, Weapons, Weapon Impacts, Trails and Ship Engines. :)

Should be complete now, kinda. I'll see what I can upload besides that.

Nightmare,
I am a bit hard pressed to find the credits for the effects I'm now using in the Memories of the Great War-core package. Do you have a directory of some kind?
Title: Re: Release: Effects DB

That's a bit difficult for 2 reasons:
1. I'm a couple thousand km from my FS install from where I can check which effects you're using (for 1 or 2 more days).
2. Most mods don't provide credits for "who made what" in the first place when it comes to effects, only generic lists of people who worked on them.

I'd confidently say crediting the original campaign should cover you.
Title: Re: Release: Effects DB
Post by: Nightmare on September 17, 2019, 06:53:17 am
That would be point 3. :nervous:

The amount of files is so huge that alone crediting the campaign would be difficult. Some are highly recognizable - Diaspora, WCS, INF, what I included from WoD, and for a good part of the Skyboxes. But besides that... I don't know if there's a way of finding any of the weapon effect makers :warp:

Updated with MJNs Orion mainhalls.

Fixed the 2D Planets link after MF somehow broke the download link and made the file inacessible (even to me) - no changes though IIRC, so nothing new. Thanks to Wookiejedi for reporting this!

Fixed the 2D planet file again after MF decided to act retarded; now I'm abusing Hunters FSFiles from SectorGame. :)
