Title: Delete my account
Post by: Deto on December 17, 2019, 06:52:06 am
Hello,

I registered here 2008 for whatever the reason, I don't remember anymore, but I just got email about announcements and such and I don't really care for those and I'm 99.99% sure I didn't approve to those when I've registered 11 years ago, because I never tick "Please send me updates on things I don't care about" :)

The email claims you can unsubscribe from emails through options by unticking "Receive forum announcements and important notifications by email." in profile, but I can't find such thing, and I'd rather have this account deleted.  Yes, I can just filter out all emails from hard-light.net, but I don't like auto-destroying messages from any other senders than spammers and this isn't spam, just something I don't care for.

Thank you.
Deto

If it makes you feel any better, most of the site staff weren't even aware that feature existed, and it certainly wasn't intended for individual folder moderators to be able to access it.  I've been a member here for over 15 years, and this is the first time I've seen a mass email go out.  I can't imagine we'd ever need to use it for anything in the future.

There should still be a functioning unsubscribe option somewhere, regardless of how frequently or not the mass e-mails get sent out.

Oh absolutely.  I found this page (https://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/Notifications#Notification_Settings) in the SMF wiki that mentions the option for disabling announcement emails that Deto described, but it doesn't look like we have that option enabled at the present time.  I let Goober know about it, so hopefully it's a trivial thing to switch on.  In any case, the option to trigger an announcement when creating a new thread has now been disabled for moderators, so this won't be an issue in the future.
