Title: Amazon TV adaptation of Iain Banks' Culture is Axed
Post by: Bryan See on August 27, 2020, 11:13:08 am
I may be the bearer of bad news, which keeps on happening on a very alarming rate. The Amazon adaptation of Iain Banks' Culture series has been canned.

Utopia creator Dennis Kelly, who was adapting Consider Phlebas, the first novel of the series, for the small screen, said all work has been stopped. The estate confirmed that the "timing wasn't quite right for an adaptation (https://www.theguardian.com/books/2020/aug/26/amazon-tv-adaptation-of-iain-banks-culture-series-is-cancelled).

Understandably, it will be a disappointment of fans. However, could at least some of the elements, characters and situations from Banks' Culture appear in a future work, be it a video game or a game mod? With open access to the FreeSpace 2 Source Code Project and other third party engines such as Source Engine and Unreal Engine, I am sure a dedicated team of fan developers could probably make an adaptation of Iain Banks' Culture themselves.
