Title: Knossos set up
Post by: caine440 on August 28, 2020, 08:17:12 am
Hello All.
I was told to uninstall everything and start over after the last Media VP update was causing issues with several mods I had installed.
Is there a video or tutorial on setting up Knossos?
I am have trouble finding the correct folder to install FS2.  My retail version is from GOG and is in the GOG games folder. The auto-detect does not find it so I linked it myself last time and wonder if I did that incorrectly.
I have reinstalled Knossos now and it shows Freespace 2 retail in the Knossos display but it cannot find the exe. to play the game.
If I start FS2 retail from GOG without using Knossos it plays fine.
Just looking for some guidance.

Thanks for putting up with all my newbie questions.

Here is a debug log if that helps from BTA.

As of now the screen is just black when the programs launch. I have audio but no video.
I hit the escape key and I get the cursor only on a black screen.
Hit escape again and the programs shut down.

This happend for all the programs using the newest media VP.

Thanks

Please run it with the "retail" mod and tell me what happens.

Thanks for the reply.
I know I am being a pain.
The retail mod does the same thing.  A black screen and if I hit escape the cursor shows up and nothing else.
If I run it in fast debug it appears to run fine.
Attached are the Knossos settings.

Just updated everything myself and also running into this issue - audio runs as normal on all mods & retail but screen remains blank with the FS cursor on it.  Resolution isn't the issue; also checked from trilinear to bilinear without success.

Even ran the fast debug and couldn't get it to run.

I am running an older machine with a AMD Radeon HD 8670 apu. It was crossfired with a XFX Radeon 6670 until a month ago when the 6670 failed.  I am still running windows 7 as I am old and hate change , lol.
I was able to get BTA to run by running an older release 1.2.5 and using the stable FSO 19.0.0.
By using FSO 19.0.0 I can run Media VP 4.3.1, I get an error message that I have on the attachment. But the game then runs fine after I click it off.

Hope this helps.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled several times and hope you do not have to go through the same.

Good luck.

I'm now experiencing CTDs on startup following the latest FSO build update (and older builds now induce the same error, too).

Looks like i am running a similar environment with WIN7 and a Radeon 6800. Hope this info helps.

It turns out that the issue had been caused by a corrupt pilot files. Knossos was not relevant to it.

Thanks for the update.
I deleted all my old pilots on my last install.
I now just have one pilot for FS2 and one for BTA.

Sorry for the dumb question, but where are the pilot files located?  I had the issue after a clean install and can't seem to find them.
