Made this as I was doing a 'realistic planet' tutorial. The planet glow could be better among other things, but, generally, it didn't turn out that badly. I'll have to keep working a bit more to get the Brazil render working. I'll probably have to composite that one, though.

Don't think of it as being outnumbered. Think of it as having a wide target selection !

Here the link to the Earth textures. It's the big 10k map, I used. A bit overkill probably, but it looks pretty good up close.

And the planet tutorial @ scifi-meshes.com

The changes I made are the glow fx for the planet and I ignored the stuff about the material on dark side of the planet.

Oh and be sure to follow the link to the Hi-rez cloudmap. ;)

thx :)

I do the best I can.
I would be better, if I hadn't started to learn modeling. Some things were forgotten quickly.

the planet mesh needs to be a higher resolution, you can see the straight lines at the edges.

That's not a geometry error. When it added the planet glow, it would also give the ships a glow to making it look real bad. So I rendered an image with the alpha (black & white image), which I then used to control the glow.

to avoid that, first make a render of the planet with its glow w/o the ship, and use the pic as a background. no pb anymore.
