Revelations: A FS2 Campaign
OK... I think I'm ready to go public with this. Of course everybody and their brother is making a campaign, and over the past month or more I've been thinking of a campaign idea of my own.

Now I think I've got most of the story ironed out that I'm ready to go live with it. This won't be another campaign that a whole team is working on. With the idea I have I would like to surprise people with the details and endings--even those people who might help me out (with such things as textures and a few new models that I have no talent nor skills in doing).

So, here it begins. Revelations: A FS2 Campaign

And here's the first piece of campaign fiction:

New Military Era Begins
Beta Aquilae, GTVA Council--Today the vote came down from the GTVA Council 187-4 for the joining of the Terran and Vasudan branches of the GTVA military. This decision comes at the end of almost a year of planning, and is the first step in a series of proposals to further join Terran and Vasudan interests during this period of GTVA reform.

It's been 30 years since the formation of the Galactic Terran Vasudan Alliance. Since that time the friendship and community between Terrans and Vasudans has grown. Even though such rebel groups such as the Neo-Terran Front have attempted to break this alliance, other initiatives such as the pilot exchange programs and joint Terran-Vasudan projects (such as the first Colossus-class juggernaut) have helped to strengthen the society between Terrans and Vasudans.

This next step, a merging of the Terran and Vasudan military branches, should bring Terrans and Vasudans closer together. Admiral Petrarch had this to say: "This is a major step forward in Terran-Vasudan relationships. Now, Terrans will be calling Vasudan ships home as well as Vasudans living aboard Terran ships. But this is not to say that either species will be uncomfortable in the other species' environment. Thirty years of working together has taught us how we can live peacefully and comfortable with each other as facilities are designed with both Terran and Vasudan physiology in mind."

Although this action has received much praise throughout GTVA systems, there are still some opponents to a blended Terran-Vasudan society. While many of these opponents are religious groups of Terran or Vasudan origin, some citizens fear it is the terrorist organizations--whose motives seem more aligned towards hate than anything else--that will continue to try to sabotage the peace and society we Terrans and Vasudans have formed. But as we further progress with such actions as this creation of a Galactic Alliance military force, we can expect that these terrorist and religious groups will become less of a threat with each passing year.

Hey Joe, I'm very impressed. This campaign shows a lot of thought so far, and it's headed towards those campaigns that people are definitely going to remember, and cite when people come around and ask for the best campaigns to play.

This is really good. I'm also impressed with your site, again - nice new format, very, very well put together. Congratulations.

Thanks

It all started a month or more ago when I got an idea. When I thought about that idea (and the implications of that idea), more ideas just started bursting from it.

I started jotting down a bunch of notes about the ideas, and then thought of making a campaign about it. Next thing I knew I had about four different notepad files full of story notes, mission notes, background notes, etc.

But one of the biggest ideas I had was to keep the surprises of the story a secret; even from those who might help me with the campaign so that they can be as surprised by it as those who didn't help.

As for my site: big thanks!
I finally made the transition to CSS-based layout. And I really like it because now visitors can pick what design and layout they want to view the site in.

Mrs. Marielle Cardosa

Dear Mrs. Cardosa,

It is with great regret that I write to you today. I am sorry to report that your son, Ensign Marco Cardosa, has gone missing in action and is presumed dead.

No doubt you are aware of the reports of the destruction of Capella by the Shivan armada. As well as destroying the home to millions of people, the destruction of Capella has also altered subspace nodes in GTVA space.

Five days ago, at 1430 hours, Ensign Cardosa was part of a supply convoy leaving the Alphard system for Dubhe. Shortly after the convoy jumped into the Alphard-Dubhe subspace node, Capella went supernova and the subspace corridor between Alphard and Dubhe vanished. We have received no contact from the convoy since that time, and from all we know about subspace nodes, the convoy would not have survived.

137 brave pilots and soldiers were lost in that convoy, and I'm sad to say that your son, Marco Cardosa, was one of them. Please accept my deepest regrets for your loss.

Cordially,
Admiral Jonathan Daigle

Grand Admiral William T. Mathis
GTVA Fleet Command, Beta Aquilae

Dear Sir,

Consider this my formal letter of resignation.

I am leaving the GTVA and joining the Empire Of Our Children. By the time you receive this transmission I will already be in the company of my friends within the EOC. Until you find a replacement for me, Vice Admiral Khaba will be in charge of the 5th Fleet. He is a fine Vasudan officer whom I would give my life for many times over.

I hope that you and the GTVA Council will see the errors of your ways. Our continued expansion into systems like Beta Pictoris, Upsilon Andromedae, and 16 Cygni B; our exploitation of all our systems; and the opening of the Sol node... any one of these things is bound to alert the Shivans that their job is not done and that we continue to exist. We cannot keep underestimating them and having such pride in ourselves. We are not superior to them. Having fought against them many times in my career I can testify to this. The only reason we have not yet been exterminated by them is pure luck. If they could destroy Capella in a brilliant supernova than what can we possibly do to stop them if they return?

For many years I struggled with my conscience. I tried to convince myself that we could stop them if they came back. That with our technology and strength we would be able to send them back to the hell they came from. But I've finally learned to stop fooling myself. The EOC has shown me the way. We need to rely on what we have in the systems we already inhabit. We need to reduce our use of subspace travel. And we need to build up our defenses and shut down nodes to create a wall between the Shivans and ourselves. The EOC has taught me that the universe is not meant to be consumed by us. The universe and everything in it is meant for everyone: all our children and their children and their children's children. If we continue the way we are behaving now it will only be a matter of time before the Shivans hunt us down again and punish us for our reckless exploitation.

We need to blockade ourselves from the Shivans, or do we want to have the guilt of the extinction of our species on our souls? I look forward to future for our species, for our children and their children stretching through time towards eternity. We need to do what's right for our future, not our present.

I hope that you can find peace with your conscience as I have with mine.

Admiral Deirdre Wallace
5th Fleet, GAD Suez

And yes, I'm actually making missions and not just a bunch of fiction... I just had three pieces of fiction written before I even started any missions.

Joe.
